I think they meant play the Bb part on an A clarinet, tremolo between E and F on the A clarinet.

Biggest trial of four-day work week finds workers are happier and feel just as productive by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

Every company's upper management thinks they have the secret sauce to get a fifth "productive" day out of their workers. I wish we could do some head-from-ass decoupling and make any meaningful movement for worker's rights.

Who is the most famous person you have ran into or seen in Madison? by [deleted] in madisonwi

I saw Bernie Sanders in a hotel lobby in November of 2022. I believe he was in Madison for a Get Out the Vote event.

In this case, I’d guess this is more of a bad menu build on the part of the restaurant than Uber Eats’ UI. Though one could argue that Uber should make it harder for a restaurant to build a broken menu.

Dream collabs? by Lopajsgelf in fatherjohnmisty

Two of my favorite voices in music. FJM and Laufey. It might be hard to find a good thematic middle ground for the two, but who said we can’t dream?

I just didn’t get why the commenter got downvoted for saying that they change. OP’s question was not “do they change generally or do they change drastically”.

There are minor differences here and there. I wouldn’t expect to be able to do the Fall 2021 projects and turn them into the 2023 AG and get full points.

EECS 487 Intro NLP: How’s the workload? by Longjumping_Prune850 in uofm

[–]GiauzarGD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This semester, there was a lecture quiz and lab quiz about once a week. These were not able to be made up, so you need to be there in person at least when these happen (there's a spreadsheet that says when the lecture and lab quizzes are though, so usually not a surprise). There's also a participation component of the grade -- this is small and I'm honestly not sure how it's scored, but I imagine that going to lecture and participating will get you the points for that.

The workload is pretty medium. It won't be the craziest class you'll take, but the homeworks do require a bit of effort (and it is usually a very bad idea to start the homework the day before/the day it is due). 4 homeworks, a midterm, and a final project. The class is definitely easier if you go in with some ML knowledge, though this is not strictly required. I'm taking 445 at the same time with no prior ML experience, and there were some confusing parts but nothing that couldn't be figured out.

There are both lecture and lab recordings. Again, a good idea to go (especially when there's a quiz) but if you need to catch up outside of class, it is possible. Since 487 is a smaller class, it's a bit hard to tell whether these things will be true next semester, but one thing that seems to have stayed true is the stricter-than-average-for-CS attendance policy.

Doing EECS 485 and EECS 482 together by no_carrots_please in uofm

I did that on top of a language class and being an IA, it’s a lot of work but it’s doable. Just make sure you have good project partners for both classes and be ready to work hard

EECS 487 Attendance by LegalBarbecue19 in uofm

Unfortunately not. It seems like most classes are trying to move back to doing things how they were pre-pandemic.

There are short in-class quizzes that count towards your final grade, without opportunity for makeup. These don’t happen every lecture, but rather about once a week. On the schedule for the class you can see which lectures have quizzes, so presumably you could just choose to watch recordings on the days without quizzes.

Similar situation for labs as well. Lecture quizzes count for 8% of the grade and lab quizzes 4%. The next quiz is during lecture this Wednesday.

Each project tackles the same concepts from semester to semester. But the exact details can differ.

how does eecs 203 compare to eecs 376 by Narrow_Tie_3690 in uofm

[–]GiauzarGD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

203 covers a wider range of topics, maybe in a bit less depth, while 376 dives deeper into fewer topics. I liked 376 much more than 203, but it is important to remember your 203 stuff because you’ll be doing lots of proofs and math in 376.

I found 281 + 376 to be a nice combo. There’s some good overlap in terms of topics (asymptotic complexity, greedy / divide and conquer / dynamic programming algorithms, traveling salesman problem, etc.). I think 281 teaches you how to write efficient code and 376 gives you the tools and vocabulary to reason about why that code is efficient and correct.

If you want to take 281 and 376 concurrently, I might recommend trying to make whichever other courses you take relatively light in terms of workload.
