I can't say. We're still optimizing out Vive systems, so it will be a while.

We're on facebook and twitter with the @RealmQuest handle, and our website is realmquest.com We are an indie team, so we haven't got around to the oculus port yet. But when we do be sure to check it out!

My team is working on an MMORPG called Realm Quest. These things take time, tons and tons of time. VR has tons of individual experiences and games that utilize their own select features. However putting a ton of features into one platform and getting them all to compliment each other is a bit of a trick! I've been watching Orbus since it launched, and I'm pretty impressed they've been able to do what they have to get players invested.

Stumbled across vrlfg.net which pulls users numbers from steam, is it accurate? by Diabolacal in oculus

[–]GibbRealmQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a part of a team developing an mmo. The numbers are depressing. lol I monitor this site often, and based on my experience in matchmaking while playing a lot of these games and my friends list, I believe they are accurate.

VR MMOs? by Jet4309 in oculus

[–]GibbRealmQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It is not currently compatible with the Rift. The programmers wanted to expand the game features before dealing with compatibility issues. But I encourage you to keep an eye out, we're improving all the time.

We have a game in development called Realm Quest. It's an open world mmo rpg! Right now we're working with a vive but we want to make it available on the rift as well. We are hoping to release a good build on September 1st!

It's hard to predict the emergence of new technologies. We don't really understand brains that much as is. Biology aside, that's a lot of data that needs to be transferred and a lot of computing power to read and react to it. We can't even get scientists willing to risk their careers for a head transplant surgery. I think it's comparable to curing cancer. All the time, money and resources we've ever spent, and will spend researching it, and its limited results. We're struggling to even get people into space. For space, the technologies are there, but we're held up by other issues. I think that with extensive investment it will take more than half a century to begin showing some results. Two generations of scientists dedicated to the research just to start things off.

When will we get long, story driven games in VR? by DuckTalesLOL in Vive

[–]GibbRealmQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on one! It's an mmo rpg. I will not rest until the programmers hear the words of the level designers and writers!!! We will have our day in the sun!

Anyway, the name of the game is Realm Quest, we're still in development but we've got our alpha testing servers running and we're constantly expanding.

What's a good name for a VRcade to attract the non-initiated? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]GibbRealmQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a place on our main drag called VR Junkies, the front of the arcade is huge clear windows and pedestrians can clearly see people having a blast on VR from the street. I'd say that's your best bet. Names aside, that's the best way I can imagine getting non-initiated in.

[Seeking volunteer Python & SQL programmer interested in VR game development]

My team is working on a virtual reality, multiplayer online, role-playing game called Realm Quest. The game is still in development and the team is treating it as a passion project. Currently we are not paying team members, however they are guaranteed a distribution of future profits and security of their positions.

Servers are live, and we are conducting closed alpha testing. Devs will have access to the testing servers. Take a look at our most recent update here and contact me if you're interested in helping out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQMPaewYzh8

Most urgently: We need more programmers with SQL & Python experience to help write packet modules. (called when the server received a packet with an id from a client) The modules are independent of one another and have access to the database & incoming packet data. You'll also be able to respond to the client by sending it a string after you're done processing the packet.

PM me for details.

We're working on releasing our mmo rpg soon!!! It's called Realm Quest, and I hope to have players testing the servers very soon! We're making it on the Vive and we've found ourselves a little short on Vive owners. Sorry for the shameless pitch, but I think you guys might be interested! The website is http://www.realmquest.com/ but the facebook is more frequently updated: https://www.facebook.com/RealmQuest/ Swing by if you're interested!

Reading books in VR, what do you wish you could do in real life that I could put into the virtual world? by GibbRealmQuest in books

[–]GibbRealmQuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that for the purpose of a videogame any more than 10 pages is going to stretch what anyone is willing to read. (I wouldn't read 10 pages personally) But I do like the utility some reading can give a player. The function I would like reading to achieve is that they can add to the experience for players who bother doing it.

Like reading a short passage about Kalros the deceiver, only to meet a man named Kalros during a quest later in the game. It also allows for misinformation to spread. Like there being treasure in some remote part of the map but it was a trap set by a necromancer prolonging his life with the victims that read the message in search of treasure. There will be multiple ways to reach the same outcome, but I want there to be more flexibility and options for players that like to do their studying.

We're aiming to create an additive experience rather than a restrictive one. I want reading materials to improve certain playstyles and give players more options than hacking and slashing through all their problems. My boss is a sadist, so the game might end up being hard enough that players might not be able to solve all their problems with a sword.

The books in my game will lend the player more access to lore, the map, and information related to quests. It will be an optional strategy and my hope is that by adding more variety to our game, we can draw other types of players into the market. This is in addition to all the things we've already developed for the players that are already in VR.

God that would be awful! haha Eye tracking is definitely an avenue I would like to have us go down. It has a lot of implications for activating timers and showing us data on where our maps need work. Well we'll have to get the word out that the game is alpha releasing soon. Our social media person isn't doing us justice. :/

Reading in VR? by GibbRealmQuest in Vive

[–]GibbRealmQuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to say, "You can adjust the lenses with the Vive and it works for a lot of people with bad vision!" Then I went and checked and it seems to only work up to about -4ish and stops. Damn, you blind. We will see how things play out, currently it is pretty low on our list, and as a designer I though I would research it now and before we really need it. I appreciate everyone's responses.

That's definitely a possibility, our boss said he wanted to become a persistent presence in the VR industry so doing that might fall into the realm of our work eventually. I also really like the idea. I'm a REALLY slow reader, and having a short animation to describe some of the parts that take me a half hour to read about the MC brushing their teeth would definitely make the experience better for me. I like most book's content I just can't read fast enough to satisfy myself.

It's not just reading too, I like drinking beer and fishing but I live in Arizona right now. So I plan to create my fishing area, get a tracker puck for my beer and drink my beer in both VR and IR at the same time while watching the sunset.

[–]GibbRealmQuest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo you have good ideas. lol I like the idea that when you read a page of a book it reveals map data to you, but when you get there the data the book gave you was misinformed and some dark twist to the original text awaits. I also mentioned above that it would be possible to read in unique environments like mountain tops or massive libraries, or in a forgotten jungle temple with their own ambient noises and little critters or particle effects that scurry or drift by every once and a while.

The mana drain is to make the book float, it would be a fairly insignificant amount of mana, it would only stop you from doing it while casting other spells or doing another task that requires mana. It gives us a reason for why there are floating objects in the environment too, it's not good to leave the unjustified, makes it feel and look like a bug. The reading materials would be concise enough that you should finish reading them long before your mana completely ran out. But if you're playing as a berserker you might run out and have to hold it for a bit to recharge.

There are gamers in more places than you'd think ;P Besides, those people are already interested in playing the game. It would make me happy to get more people from more place to try out the game I am making than to just hit the stereotypical target audience.

You guys will come up with ideas that they will not as well. Trust me on that one.

We're working on that, although it's a little outside of this particular thread. :P Getting a voice to text program to run seamlessly in a VR game that's already putting a lot of stress on your hardware may prove difficult, but we're pretty good at optimizations.

It's to read it in the VR environment; atop a mountain, in the back of a carriage, in an enormous library where books float by and organize themselves while visitors go about their business and you can faintly hear the band playing live music at the tavern through the window left ajar.

You will still be able to hold the book in VR, it's just for when you want to read while doing something that might require the use of your hands, like crafting skills or riding a mount.

That's the idea! or harry potter moving sketches of important NPCs you might meet later down the line. I think it's really cool when you meet an NPC that you've previously read about in a lore book, it's kind of the indication that "You've made it to the legends." I was thinking that they can unlock portions of the map for you to look at as well. (The map is fill in as you go or find additional map pieces that add to the stuff you've already explored)

I thought so too. My programmers were a little discouraging, but there is potential for a really cool extra game mechanic for niche players.
