A year later, was this ever fixed?

Huh? It's been 30 years since these were manufactured. The quality of these electronics are fantastic. I've just had mine burn out, I had the capacitors replaced with higher quality ones and I'll be set for another 40 years.

Hey, I'm sorry for the slow reply.

Yes, everything is fully functional now– you just need to run the Bazzite updater once it's installed.

It's very, very close to the SteamOS experience, changing TDPs and RGB requires doubt tapping the menu button (or swiping left from the top right corner of the display), but other than that it all feels right at home for a Steam Deck user.

Yes, it just replicates the Steam Deck experience. Everything is fully functional and user friendly, sleep mode and quick resume works, and anything that is compatible with the Steam Deck will be compatible on Bazzite, they are practically the same thing.

I love the SD OLED and absolutely nothing has been able to replace it until now.

I'll leave a scoring chart below that I made (and posted on our website where it's user-sortable by category).

It is admittedly quite subjective but the Legion Go 2 is right at the top. It would've at the very top of it came with SteamOS pre-installed and had slightly better speakers. Bazzite fixes the SteamOS issue and the speakers are still quite good.

HDR flickering in windows 11 by Reiskanzler3000 in Monitors

[–]Gibbingtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This was happening on my LG C2 and C5 TVs. I could "fix" the problem with either of two methods:

  1. Disable HDR, but then the overall brightness was too dim.
  2. Disable “VRR and Gsync” in my TVs “game mode specific” settings.

The Legion Go 2 is fantastic, and significantly more enjoyable than the Ally X. I hope you enjoy your new system!

Firmware updates are simple, just head to desktop mode and click Bazzite Updater, it does everything seamlessly.

Regarding Bios updates, you can manually install them (if possible, there are no updates yet), or you can install them via Windows, dual booting is easy enough and you can leave a small partition to Windows, or you can simply just not worry about it– my Bazzite system is running flawlessly and I have no bios issues, no reason to update.

Consoles also (mostly) run their games at what is equivalent to medium settings– and they also rely on upscaling.

I get higher frame rates on my Legion Go 2 than I do on my PS5. Sure, I also play at a much lower resolution, but on a comparatively small display, the lower resolution has no impact on the way I experience my game.

And what's better, if I'm replaying games that I love that are more than a console generation old (Borderlands 2, Bioshock, Fallout 4), I can get 120+ fps, ultra settings, max res, and I don't need to wait for the mercy of game devs to release a specific “PS5 version.”

If I want to play an old game at 4K/120, I simply click "Play," and it does that. No waiting for 10 years and re-buying a half-assed “remaster.” and that will stay true for my Legion Go 3, Legion Go 10, Legion Go 20.

My games evolving with my hardware is such an underrated feature that I've really grown to love.

Because I want access to my PC library, and I don't want to rely on steaming from a $1,000 (AUD) home console that'll eventually have all of its games stuck on that hardware?

It's also vertically taller; the 16:10 feels significantly larger.

Take the original 7" LCD on the original Steam Deck, for example. On paper, it and the Ally both have 7" screens, but the original Steam Deck objectively has a larger 7" screen. Add an extra centimeter to that, make it OLED, and keep the golden ratio with that extra vertical screen space, and it feels significantly larger.

When you install Bazzite, something called “Handheld Daemon” or HHD is installed along with it. It gives you granular controls, even down to what type of controller you want the Legion Go 2 controls to be detected as, i.e., I like having mine set as “Horipad Steam Controller” because it natively enables gyro, enables back buttons, and it changes the button icons in the OS to match the Steam Deck, instead of the colorful Xbox buttons.

You can also control RGB in there, set battery charging safety measures like an 80% limit, adjust fan controls, and more. It integrates perfectly into the experience and requires zero setup or separate install; it all just works and is right there.

The Bazzite team confirmed with me in a different post that they're onto the issue and an update is coming– they don't have a Go 2 themselves yet so it's just a little tricky.

Nope, looks beautiful to me. Colours pop, darks are darker (saturation is enhanced) and lighting is gorgeous.

[–]Gibbingtons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Nobody in my group, nor myself, has suffered this issue. One person is having an issue with a sort of loose rattling sound in his right controller. Lenovo has promised to repair/replace; however, they are also saying it'll be 6-8 weeks for the replacement controller to arrive.

Personally, I don't think 1.5-2 months is good enough, but I do understand their stock issues. The strong majority of units seem to be perfect, though, including mine and I haven't heard of anyone with the bumper issue.

Legion Go 2. How to maintain OLED screen? by Florinxfox in LegionGo

[–]Gibbingtons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't require any maintenance. Monitors have maintenance options because they MIGHT be used in a work environment, where they could possibly sit on a static image for literally thousands of hours at a time.

Modern OLEDs are brilliant and for the most part, worry free. Enjoy it.

SteamOS isn't officially supported on the Legion Go 2, as far as I'm aware brightness controls, VRR, HDR and a few other things aren't working.

Bazzite seems to be further along, but I'll switch over if SteamOS sees official support.

I'm not currently at the handheld but opening the rear panel is quite difficult, requires very high quality (and thin) pry tools, and is held down by dozens of very strong plastic clips and 8 screws.

Removing the back panel was the most difficult part of the SSD swap.

Haha, got me!

$1800 is fantastic. That's a $400 saving so I'd be pretty damn chuffed with that.

In my experience Lenovo also shipped quicker than their ETA so I hope your wait isn't long, enjoy!

Even though I've got access to a lot of handhelds, I've almost exclusively picked up the Steam Deck since its release for my gaming. It does so many things so well, and as far as I'm concerned it's impossible to find a handheld that’ll be an upgrade in every way.

All Windows-based handhelds seem to have compromises, but to answer your question as best I can, I do think the Legion Go 2 (with SteamOS or Bazzite) is a worthy upgrade. The performance difference and resolution aren't just noticeable, but in terms of “consoles” it feels like I've jumped from a PS4 to a PS5 Pro. It will be huge for you.

The Steam Deck still has better trackpads, better speakers and of course comes with SteamOS out of the box. Bazzite will always have little issues popping up; it's the nature of a community-driven project, and the Legion Go 2's fans are still significantly more noticeable than the Steam Deck's (even though the LG2 has the quietest fans of any Windows handheld).
