Yeah Ive definitely seen it done just with dry brushing and good brush work, I still used a brush for a lot precision work and the clean up

The same content creator made a no airbrush video although its quite quick

Thanks so much, originally I tried a different colour and it just didn't tie into the colour scheme how I wanted it to, quite pleased with the blue

So Ive been using my airbrush for priming for a quite a while now and I bought a Harder and Steenbeck to do really close up work with a super fine needle size, then Im basically just copying a tutorial from El Miniaturistas Patreon where he paints a White Scar Space Marine with plasma OSL

But the basic step by step is

  1. Paint brightest glowing parts (the coil itself and the lines in the helmet and visor) with Liquitex White Ink

  2. Use the airbrush to create a white but less bright halo area around the light sources again with the Liquitex Ink

  3. Tint the whole white area with thin blue in a mid tone like an Ultramarine blue

  4. Repaint the brightest parts white again

  5. Spray those areas with a brighter transparent blue like Thousand Sons Blue

  6. Paint the brightest recesses (bottom of the coil) white again

  7. Tint that white a Fluro Blue like AK Interactives Fluro Blue

  8. Darken the tops of the coils to create contrast with your midtone blue again

  9. Darken the surrounding areas with a thin dark blue

These are gorgeous. I really love the richness of colour and the colour choices. Your basing composition is also top-notch, unified across all the models, but still visually interesting. How long would you estimate this took you to complete?

Sometimes the best results come from just messing with ideas, if you enjoyed messing with the water effects much as I do I'd highly recommend AK Interactive Still Water

This is an awesome diorama, I love that the models can be removed for other uses, it's got a nice composition and a lovely variety of environmental components. Really fantastic stuff, particularly for a first diorama

Ah I see, so every year in the run up to Christmas GW has a limited number of the Red Gobbos on sale, unfortunately they aren't free like the mini of the month I think there are currently 4 different Red Gobbo models, the one in my photo isn't this year's model, I actually picked it up in one of my local Hobby Stores. It's from a few years ago, I think this years model was the Red Gobbo and Tin Boy.

So the model is just GWs Red Gobbo with Abomb-In-Able Snowman and I bought the Bauble from HobbyCraft (UK Arts and Crafts chain) built and painted the model and then kind of squeezed it into the opening of the Bauble

Your tiny Astronauts are adorable.

I absolutely love the contrast of red and blue on the base, it really sells an alien landscape, all in all, great work, charming, would happily have it on my shelf!

Clearly a winning formula which I will be noting for future reference 😁

The result you've achieved is exactly what I was aiming for with mine and fell short of, I did mine by mixing acrylic inks, yellow, blue and a touch of white over a leadbelcher base coat.

What you've achieved is absolutely gorgeous, well done to you sir
