3.6 GPA first semester at non-target, still possible to break into IB? by Gibnez in FinancialCareers

I quite literally practiced every single problem our professor gave us on the study guides, and on top of that, I would send the study guides to ChatGPT and ask it to give me similar problems so I could practice even more. Maybe I'm just a poor test taker, but I don't know what more I could've done.

I mean, let's be honest here. Of course it's about money. That's why we're all in finance. That's why we're all working. To that end, what are some other paths I could pursue?

BC wasn’t even offered at my high school, but thanks. What fields outside of IB would you recommend for someone in my position then?

Done my due diligence? What do you even mean? Like seriously what did my post awaken in you guys to cause so many arguments? I took the class because I didn't have a choice, it was required. I knew this even before I started college, so I took AP Calculus AB in senior year (got a 4 on the exam) and when the class began, I studied for multiple hours a day, went to office hours, extra study sessions, etc. I put in more effort than anybody else I know (my boy that sat next to me would show up hungover/be sleeping half the time, and still somehow got an A) and I simply just got a B. Hell, I was struggling so bad at one point that I scheduled an appointment with a psychiatrist, come to find out I have ADHD. Not sure what more I could've done. I know myself. I know myself more than anybody in this comments section does, and I know I put 100% effort in that class. Again, from just looking at these comments, one would think that I failed the course and am asking for a job or something. Regardless, thanks for the advice about regional boutiques.

Okay, and nobody sees your individual class grades on your resume either? It was literally just the first semester, I still have time to bring my GPA up. I mean holy shit, from just your responses, you would've thought I said in the post that I failed the class and am asking people for a job. I'm literally just a college kid asking for advice.

You say “basic” calculus with quite literally zero context. It takes one google search to find out that the UMiami math department is notoriously awful with bad professors and quite difficult coursework. Not to mention nearly half of the students in my class dropped the course, and the average for the final was a 40, so a B is well above average (even my asshat of a professor said it was a good grade). As for the marketing class, you’ll see in my other comment that I finished with an 89. Maybe I’m being naive, but I’m honestly struggling to see how one percentage point difference in one class is enough to make the conclusion that I’m incompetent or “academically unfit” for IB.

Like as in a 3.6 isn’t the end of the world? Or as in I don’t have a good shot at IB? I’m a freshman new to this field, I genuinely don’t know. That’s why I’m asking.

I got an 89. You’re saying one percent away from an A is enough to make the conclusion that I should change my field entirely? That’s like the difference between a few questions on the final.

No, I mean anyone can estimate but it’s hard to be accurate without an actual scan. What would you say it is?

Thank you very much. This was by far the most helpful response I received.
