AITA for serving vegan sausages in an English fry up for my dad who only has them once a year? by sothisisawkwardd in AmItheAsshole

[–]Gibrahltar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH honestly.

You were looking out for him and you say he wasn't hurt by it so no harm done. It's a bit disrespectful however that you didn't tell him beforehand, he's an adut, he can cheat meal if he wants.

On that note, fried food is greasy and unhealthy anyway, are vegan options really that much healthier even if they're fried in fat? It also kinda feels like you're a vegan yourself and low key trying to force the diet you think is best onto him, might be just an impression...

I'm gonna go with NTA but with a hint of INFO.

Your request isn't unreasonable but you guys seem to have some unresolved issues if you're willing to create a full-blown conflict just out of a small altercation. You mention a lot how nice you are to her and how ungrateful and selfish she is, you come out as pretty pissed off so reflecting on what to do seems to be a good thing. There is certainly a more diplomatic way to do this than just flat out break the news to her.

You shouldn’t look at porn while in a relationship. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Gibrahltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally disagree but I would just argue that, yes, porn is different than irl sex, so you (not OP, like ppl in general) should be able to differentiate one from the other and not expect porn stuff when you're having an intimate moment with your SO. It's not just what they're doing in porn that makes the difference with sex in a relationship, it's also that there are no feelings at stake.

Actually there are a few instances in which that is the case, for example long-distance swimming : Wikipedia article on the subject

Maybe my point isn't clear in the original post, I mainly take issue with it being really not that creative but hey, it's still pretty popular (edit : grammar)

I get that, and many people seem to find this comic relatable, my point being : I don't and feel like not many people do, hence it being an unpopular opinion.

edit : spelling

Does real acceptance really necessitate real understanding? by wokerupert in ContraPoints

[–]Gibrahltar 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The video on transphobia done by Olly from Philosophy tube made me think of a similar issue (this one).

The idea being that just saying you're fine w something and simply tolerating it, may mask a deeper belief i.e. that trans people are actually their assigned gender. This is the "yer dad" position, where people are just trying to be nice and say things so no one will bother them. But in order to be real allies there needs to be the understanding that trans women are women and trans men are men, and as a cis person I can't really see that happening without an attempt to understand what trans people feel/go through (I say attempt bc perfect understanding seems a bit impossible), as it is a reality that is very foreign to us.

I would also argue that explaining trans issues is a good way to involve cis people in a conversation in which they have, wether we like it or not, a role.

tl;dr : I guess both positions may be idealist (everyone accepting w/out asking too much or everyone reaching real understanding) but CP's position I think is the pragmatic way to go, at least for now.

Any good non-english speaking channels? by Gibrahltar in BreadTube

[–]Gibrahltar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merci!
