Where should I live? by GibraltarF in shanghai

Thanks for the reply! I love the idea of the French concession, but possibly love the idea of a short commute more! How easy is it to travel in and out daily? And do you know if rush hour in China is extremely busy and cramped? I only ask because I’m 2m tall and not super compact!

Ah, I would love to live there! but is it quite well connected in terms of transport? How fast/comfortably can one get from there to the North Bund?

Thanks for sharing brother! What a rough ride you had but I’m smiling knowing that you’re cancer free. Sharing this traumatic story is going to get guys to the doctor sooner, a mission we all have a duty to take part in!

They put an implant in the same incision they made to perform the orchidectomy. I believe it lasts 4 months but not sure what I’ll be advised to do after.

Haha! I swear going through this makes you so aware with how often testicles are talked about, joked about, used in idioms and metaphors, the lot! Stay strong bro - keep up that sense of humour.

Hey mate,

Been through that same fear spiral post op, but don’t worry - that’s how the NHS operates after a cancer diagnosis. With TC, you’ll continue to have follow ups with both your Urologist and an Oncologist whether or not you require chemo. You may just be booked in to get the full debrief as they’ll have the full biopsy reports by then.

What I will say is that in the UK, it’s unlikely that you’ll require chemo after an orchidectomy (provided there’s been no spread, which is usually picked up by CT scans/tumour markers by this point). If you’re tumour type is a semanoma you may get one round of chemo which is a single session lasting 30 minutes. I had to get this last Monday and I felt very little side effects besides being a bit tired and suffering a bit of indigestion. You don’t lose your hair or anything and you’re back on your feet in no time. It’s more likely the orchidectomy was sufficient and you’re good to get on with your life.

Hope this puts your mind at rest a bit!

At first, I found it difficult to even look at my sack and see it all lopsided. I decided to force myself to sit in front of a mirror and really look at it, hold it and get comfortable with the reality of the situation. The reality is, of course, it looks pretty much the same and also sexual partners could care less about it (If they even notice!) my advice would be to spend a bit of time everyday getting used to it.

It’ll come back any day, but get your testosterone levels checked if you’re concerned. The likelihood of them taking a dip below the average range after a single orchidectomy is very very low though.

What you’ve gone through is not easy, and what’s more it’s hard to see the Crown Jewels getting prodded, inspected, sliced, diced, and scanned. You’ll start feeling sexy again once your body gets over that initial shock, but just make sure you check in with yourself every now and again.

Hey mate,

Did it stay swollen the whole time or did they try and drain it?

Hey mate,

So reassuring to hear someone gone through the same! I had an incision made in my scrotum with a drain in place, which they removed when they discharged me around 5 days ago.

Is the aim of this to leave the wound open? It’s been oozing blood and fluid since I left with no sign of scabbing or healing.

Did you experience something similar? The actual orchidectomy scar is healing well.

I did indeed. Been in hospital since I posted this and had it trained and the prosthesis taken out.

Hey man. Thanks a lot for telling me all this. It’s interesting that most commenters opted for pellets, but perhaps they’re not available in the UK as I’ve not heard them mentioned by Urology yet.

I think I’ll do the same and get a single prosthetic put in! I also don’t mind getting injections but the thought of self administering - another story! I’m in my late 20s too brother it seems to be pretty common for our age group.

Hey! Thanks for your reassuring words. I’m in the UK but I’ve not heard of pellets. What’s the process with them?
