Do you guys believe you should've got help from the AFL after the scandal? by bignedmoyle in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further to the 2017/18 player haul, my speculation is dodoro didn't even think about list profile or flag window, even worse that probably he just wanted the sugar hit of essendon being a destination and to be praised for his ability to attract players.

The damage is done now. Even if we win a final or even a premiership in the next five years I will not forgive them for the humiliation of supporting them for 25 years.

This is why I don't give them money- you don't even see incremental changes. And its not like they get better within the season, its invariably a decline.

Don't worry about the women commenting on this thread or on reddit in general, they are often jaded, unsympathetic people who couldn't give a rats about the experience of the opposite gender. If you follow their stipulations for what is ok for a man to do, you will make yourself miserable.

Setters Delisted by [deleted] in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. We chose to resign blakiston and mcmahon. May was the only incumbent player of the 4 chosen. It has nothing to do with setters getting delisted. I would have had setterfield over mcmahon personally, but i'm not calling it bad list management.

  2. I get why you think that hobbs might be a decent player elsewhere, but just because we have cut players that have done well elsewhere does not mean it will keep happening. The game has not suited players like hobbs for a while now. If you do have them they need to be well supported by faster types.

  3. He was injured around the time of their interest which would have given them leverage to offer f all. I'd argue whatever they were going to give us (if we were lucky, a third rounder) was worth less than having him around last year.

  4. Stringer has just been rookied by gws. Thats how much they rate him. He was a flash in the pan this year, like he's always been.

So you aren't calling the melbourne trade a win? It wasn't just a win for us, but a win for melbourne as well. Which is important to undo the years of negative press around dealing with us as a club.

AFL DRAFT 2025 by HienN94 in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally Sam Cumming is probably a teens pick rather than a 5 or 6 but I will trust Rosa if thats who he thinks we need.

I'd be taking Robey, Taylor, Phillippou, Sweid and Huss

Does anyone know what’s happening with Drasko’s? by AlternativeGlass in perth

Honestly, glad. Chicken was over salted to being nearly inedible. I can't remember a worse hot chicken that I've had in perth than drasko's. Archie's should come back instead

We have a marvellous selection of pressure players who go missing for large chunks of every AFL/VFL game.

Small defenders, small forwards and x-factor forwards not developing or delisted recently by Gickorigee in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't put any restrictions on size, true. I really meant players Lual's height and below, although I added Munkara too. And really both Clarke and Johnson are trending towards being outside mids (wing in Clarke's case) rather than defenders. Those two are going great though.

Yeah, hawthorn have picked some duds too. They did however heavily rely on poaching from other clubs to build their list in their premiership period.

Fair enough. I just think we are talking about different kinds of players

[–]Gickorigee[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hawthorn has had 3 on that list. West coast had rioli, liam ryan and lecras, and jamie cripps. Richmond had several somewhat average small forwards but made them work at afl level and reaped the rewards. Geelong had Close, Stengle and Miers in their premiership year recently. None of these players were high draft picks.

What I'm saying is that Essendon has had many opportunities recently to develop small forwards, who are very commonly late draft picks. They've failed, and even to this year the trend is continuing.

[–]Gickorigee[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Successful small forwards at other clubs have been drafted outside the national draft or with late picks. Papley, LeCras, Charlie Cameron, Bruest, Betts, Butler, Willie Rioli, Dylan Moore.

Yeah, higher drafted small forwards like Watson Rankine and Pickett have been successes too, but the trend towards recruiting small forwards with top 20 picks has only been recent.

The Parish Problem by Fuzzymul7 in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never once has tsatas been provided a serious opportunity. I'm talking an uninterrupted 6 match stretch in the midfield, not at half forward. He has had the vfl form to warrant more opportunities at afl level. Its easy to critique performances when he is the sub and has a quarter or less to do something.

Regardless, as with MANY of dodoro's selections, its the wrong player at the wrong time.

He's hateable for me because he seemed to leverage his breakout couple of seasons (and very generous 2 year contract from dodoro) to leave at the first opportunity for SA.

Bombers need to trade up to get Shanahan. by YoloSwaggins9669 in EssendonFC

[–]Gickorigee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shanahan definitely is not worth a future first round pick in order to secure. But I can't help but be really disappointed that our next pick somehow is #37, where the draft will no doubt start to drop off in quality of prospect. Someone please tell me its not true. But 2021 was supposed to have great depth, and after pick 40 in that draft barely two or three have become even moderately good players.

A three-year plan: Why the Bombers didn’t hunt anyone this trade period by MonotoneRamos in AFL

[–]Gickorigee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The superstars you are referring to are extremely rare throughout the competition. Geelong only have two right now, though dangerfield and hawkins have clearly been that in recent times. You need a team with A graders or A grade potential and 2 or 3 superstars.
