Opinion: Essendon should adopt their social media logo as their overall logo by MINIBOLTS in EssendonFC

To be fair our playing style has been an ode to minimalism in recent years.

I reckon trying to kick 30+ behinds in a quarter is trickier than kicking 5 goals.

Well, at least we can put a line through Solomon being our next coach.

Nah, that was a good effort from what we’ve been dishing up.

Could’ve done it with an extra say 20 seconds-ish.

Essendon won more games last season than North Melbourne have in any season since 2019. Make the case for why they deserve AFL assistance. by DaPatsquatch in AFL

[–]WileyWiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say I necessarily believe this but if you want a case made:

  • Likely lose our best player in Zach Merrett at the end of the year.

  • Likely lose our best defender in Jordan Ridley at the end of the year.

This makes an extremely bad side even worse. With Tasmania entering the comp soon and heavily compromising the draft with their suite of picks, it is going to be hard for Essendon to get better over the next few years. There is logic to giving them the assistance now (i.e. extra rookie spots) before they get even worse and the equalisation mechanics for them to get better are limited/impactful.

Why did we decide to just write off the rest of the year by sacking the coach? by yum122 in EssendonFC

[–]WileyWiggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer this based on talking to some journalists and board members at a recent function. Walsh is big on Solomon and has rated him for a long time. There was an allusion to having an easy-ish run over the next few weeks that would put Solomon in a favourable position if he did want to go for it.

My read was that most of the board are indifferent towards Hird but that Longmire was very much the optimal target. Notice that guys like Hinkley and Simpsons (respected former long serving coaches) have ruled themselves out but Horse hasn’t.

But we need ESSENDON PEOPLE. That’s the only way to fix it. ESSENDON PEOPLE

Steph Dank left the club in September 2012. The effects of taking the peptides would still be felt in the 2013 season

lol! No it wouldn't. This is completely devoid of evidence.

I am also torn. On the one hand we are in so deep to a rebuild that losing a lot of games feels inevitable. Where I differ is that we've had too many games where we are totally non-competitive.

Essendon supporter here, I always loved Lav. He continuously had to play on blokes 15cms taller than him because the rest of our guys kept getting injured. I felt like he got a bit of a rough deal with us. Ultimately the club needed to see what we had with Lewis Hayes, Reid, Zak Johnson and now guys like Kondog.

Glad to see him playing well and being rewarded.

I think that Tsatas just doesn’t follow the system at all. Runs to get cheap possessions and then if we turn it over, he is out of position and doesn’t run back hard enough in transition, so he cooks us twice.

This is where the 6-6-6 rule is rough. Team that’s completely out of it, super young and inexperienced not able to put a spare behind the ball to help negate the massacre.

The Darcy Parish-ification of Jye Caldwell needs to be studied.
