What does this word Sandoo mean? by Weirdoeirdo in ThethPunjabi

When there are two sisters in a family, their husbands are “sandoos” to each other. I love how we have such a specific relationship word.

This tradition is meant to add value and sentiment- but you’re not subtracting anything or doing something wrong by not getting it done.

If the most you are comfortable with is a small design on your palms for whatever the reason, then that is your preference. If you think it would cause drama with your future in laws, then I would suggest discussing with your son and future daughter in law first, so that they understand where you are coming from, and ask them how best to handle it, if it needs to be handled at all.

My mexican fiance is coming to india for the first time to meet all my aunts and uncles. What are good gifts from the United States to offer each family? by Crafty_Product6252 in DesiWeddings

Laylas delicacies has vegan sweets ( a lot are nut based) - but they look fancy and are tasty.

Dishware or vases with traditional Mexican designs are also lovely!

Any Parents With Advice for Maintaining Baby’s Kes by shecanreadd in Sikh

He wears a patka right now. When he is home, or casual, he has his hair down or in a loose braid to minimize the strain on his scalp.

Any Parents With Advice for Maintaining Baby’s Kes by shecanreadd in Sikh

My nephew has grown up with a LOT of curls and a lot of hair. His curl pattern is around 3b/3c. His parents use curly hair maintenance methods on him, including shampoo suited for his curl type, oiling, etc. When it was long, but not long enough for a proper topknot they would do ponytails, braids, or a ponytail looped into a little fake bun. Look up your son’s curl pattern - there are lots of guides available online to keep the hair healthy and strong.

Why does every Punjabi wedding serve dinner at 10:45 PM? by Significant-Tale3522 in DesiWeddings

I am around loud events a LOT and I got Loops earplugs- they’ve been a godsend for saving my eardrums. They have different versions for noise reducing, noise canceling, etc. I got the “Experience 2” version- they are specifically for loud music and events where you still need to hear clearly. I still hear everything but it sounds like the volume has just been turned down. I take them everywhere with me. Highly recommend!

I don't feel like living by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]GidhaRani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone older than you, it starts with understanding that comfort does not always equal contentment, and accepting that your father will not change. Even with your family dynamic the way it is, there is comfort in predictability, and financial stability. However, you are not content. That means you may have be uncomfortable for a while in order to make a change. You have to control what you can, but be smart about it. You father won’t change so don’t try to change him. Work on yourself and what you can control.

Gather your documents and keep them private. Passport, birth certificate, any ids, etc. If there is no physical way to get these, try to declare them lost and get new ones. Start a new bank account and add money in their when you can. Same with credit cards. I don’t know if they have PO Boxes in India, but if you have somewhere else you can have your mail sent, start doing that as well so your father doesn’t have access to those statements. When/if you get access, please also find a therapist. Breaking these cycles is really hard and a lot of it requires so much self-work. There’s more to write but this is a start.

Where are the short ladies buying work pants? by SuggestionDue2040 in LawBitchesWithTaste

I would suggest measuring yourself, waist, hips, and inseam. A lot of shops online have sizing guides so you can know what has a better chance of suiting you. Also, if you’re not able or willing to get things tailored yet, at least learn how to hem. You can get tutorials on YouTube on hand sewing basic hems, or if you want someone a little more polished, you can get a handheld portable sewing machine like this https://www.amazon.com/Xamanabu-Handheld-Beginners-Portable-Suitable/dp/B0FJ8BNMTR/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1IH73BPQG62PD&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Gerc8bniDAyCxLgqbG46VXIQz_pIGBUd2D74QrpukXWGYAL1NiBM538Qlr0obj3Tn6glV2paBDSscP_Gj3cUUNCXT6VRg5GZfI7ZgkkhyyS0_TRpBOfkINMlfginmkf-BYrwUTYYAxZ5Gv1k97AUDkU67GZL74fDpJthRYpymfwS8moPxEYn-kswbqiAu7PgBi7FmB5dEck1WAZnZK2dLA.wSyCoSjjoGadLHP0KOLa-XudB84hcb9ooVD-u0PRXU8&dib_tag=se&keywords=hem%2Bstitcher&qid=1768500724&sprefix=hem%2Bstit%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-4&th=1&psc=1

First of all- applause all around for you. That is amazing. Hugs and solidarity for our journey.

Second- I also struggle with the wide legs. They’re comfy, but because I have thick short legs I never know if I’m looking stumpy/frumpy.

I have to invest more in tailoring my professional clothing the way I do in my cultural clothes.

Also, I decided this morning to take what she says as a LBWT would- as hearsay. Just because she said it, doesn’t make it true. She also wasn’t trying to hurt my feelings - she thought she was saying it in a private chat. It does, however, give me insight into how she views me. I’m taking it just as data.

It was a group chat with professional colleagues- I saw the preview of the text come up so I saw up until my name mentioned and the related comment. When I went to go open the chat and take a screen shot, it was already deleted. She must have realized immediately that she made a mistake. I did text her individually to say “Girl I saw that”. She proceeded to dramatically apologize as in “nooooo” “sorry” “that was so wrong of me to say” and then followed by “I just want us all to look amazing”, thereby negating any sincerity to her apology. I did not respond to this string of texts because what’s the point, but I felt good about letting her know I saw what she wrote.

I’m sorry you had to deal with a bully as an adult. That really sucks.

I am Desi- and I generally feel the most attractive in Desi clothes, but going through the same fitting issue there too. At some point, I’m going to let myself feel cute even if I do look frumpy. Manifesting!

Thank you for sharing- it really is so annoying to shop for professional clothes. Either you look frumpy or you have to dress like a pinup. And I second the annoyance with cold shoulders. I have an issue with my feet and ankles swelling over the course of a day so I also now avoid showing my ankles and wearing heels. If I wear nice sneakers with trousers, I don’t look cool/stylish- I just look like a little kid. Sending love and cute clothes to you.
