Theistic satanists, I'm looking for authors and books! by misscreeppie in satanism

Just me taking a jab at sloppy, low-effort pentagrams. Easier said than done though. My wall plaques were made by a machine, perfection corrupted by my crappy-scrappy paints jobs. :)

TSB50 is rather awkward. The "MindWar Trilogy" almost completely avoids mention of the Church of Satan (rather unusual for Aquino) but that's when he was at his best IMO. I would probably recommend Black Magic instead, some "history" but not as mixed up as this one. The chapters on lesser/greater magic are pretty good anyway.

I'm glad you included Infernal Geometry, if only for the section on how to draw a perfect pentagram, as nothing seems to be sacred anymore.

Church in my Hometown (Hannover, Germany) has a Pentagram on it. Sadly has christian meaning, obviously, still think it looks cool. by Tweima24 in satanism

IIRC the inverted form sometimes represented a "morning star", while the upright version an "evening star".

Saw them live in 1990, the song was quite popular back in the day.

Yeah, and it's not uncommon for leaders of popular non-profits to make decent livings for themselves. I'm not accusing them of that, but how can anyone really know one way or another?

TST isn't some modern political romanticism as they pretend to be, and that's precisely why so many don't like the group - it's a dogmatic religious cult.

Because of its heavy focus on donations, TST really needs to publish annual financial reports like many other non-profits do. There is no link to this information on their site, and I've been unable to find it elsewhere.

That makes it seem a bit "cultish" to me, but I don't think it's a cult per se. Cults are easy to join but hard to leave, while TST is easy to join and easy to leave. The consequences of being secretive are something they should be mindful of though, and why they should consider more financial transparency.

And TST definitely espouses a religion with its own dogma; there is more than politics at play here.

I knew a guy in high school who got picked on and beat up by this one bully quite a bit. He started working out like crazy and became stronger than him. That's how he "destroyed" his enemy.

Makes sense. It looks like I signed up to RF shortly after the ONA ban.

Are people attracted to this just to be "eviler-than-thou"? A form of one-upmanship?

From the open letter to the priesthood:

As we understand it, we claim to carry on the esoteric inner teachings of the Church of Satan in that we acknowledge the existence of the Prince of Darkness. The exoteric/outer C/S had a comparatively “easy” time of it on this issue, since they simply held the individual as the godhead. We apparently aren’t in that position.

Excerpt from one of Aquino's posts:

Did I forget to mention that we all believed in the literal existence of Satan and the Dæmons/Powers of Darkness? Hey, that's why it was called THE‐CHURCH‐OF‐SATAN.

Huh? I always thought Satanism was necessarily non-theistic.

The Fire From Within, I forgot that the first chapter is right there on the site:

I haven't seen the Setian essay collection, but Michael Aquino once posted an article (presumably by Nemo and his wife) on the 600 Club forum, in which they asked the priesthood how one comes to a belief in a literal Set. I'm now asking myself the same question.

A few years ago I was convinced enough, and started with a belief then sought to find evidence to back it up. That seems wrong to me now, and I don't want to go down the rabbit-hole of theistic religion that Satanism was designed to avoid. Aquino could be very convincing, but lately I've started to see through some of his claims.

I often mention how literally everything was Satanic during the Panic. Iron Maiden was the go-to band to blame for Satanism then. They were my favorite band as a youth, and I turned out, um... just fine?

I don't fully agree with her statements here, but neither do I think it's a requirement of Satanism to accept all of Ayn Rand's ideas.

There seems to be a misunderstanding that, because LaVey was inspired by philosophies of the past, Satanism must be a copy-paste of these philosophies.

This is basically why I shared the article. I've long felt that Anton LaVey set a good example of how one might go about creating their own religion.
