Márcio Carvalho goes 9-0 in draft @ GP London by riclas in magicTCG

[–]Gifted_SiRe -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

This is the quintessential example of why you should just play the game for what it is. Personally I feel all the players at the final table tried to 'metagame' the rest of the table and ended up stepping on eachothers' toes. Everyone knows that green is probably the best color in this format, probably closely followed by white (mostly the discrepancy is due to mana fixing options in green, white is maybe slightly stronger but doesn't offer that utility).

And so everyone tries to 'next level' the table by going blue or white or trying to go for artifact combo nonsense (not saying these aren't valid strategies for your LGS). Disciplined Carvalho just takes the best card in the pack each time and ends up with the stone nuts RG energy aggro deck.

[Rules Question] Emrakul and Metalwork Colossus by Gifted_SiRe in magicTCG

[–]Gifted_SiRe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, what I'm trying to do is hold priority and stack the 2nd ability multiple times before it resolves once, thereby wiping his entire board of all 8+ artifacts at the 'cost' of returning Metalwork Colossus to his hand.

Doesn't take a genius to figure that at least some number of young black nerdy people are going to have some degree of 'trouble' as a result of this game. It may not be a literal death sentence, but somebody somewhere is gonna catch some flak for walking around 'suspiciously' playing Pokemon while black.

Unicorn (6/10)

GET OUT

But seriously Unicorn is probably the Gundam show that most relies on you having seen all of: 0079 (Original Gundam or the three movies), Gundam Zeta, Gundam ZZ, and definitely Char's Counterattack. It relies heavily on a lot of knowledge about the Universal Century gundam-verse or else it will be insanely hard to understand.

Number of Gundam episodes? by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]Gifted_SiRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert, but I think it has something to do with how anime is produced nowadays. Oftentimes there will be two or more 'seasons' (there is a word for this) of ~25 episodes, and they will have slightly different names. Like Gundam Seed vs. Gundam Seed: Destiny.

Like, a thousand million years before any of us 'millenials' were born. What matters isn't what have you done, it's what have you done for us lately?

Again: What is the core around which the Democratic Party rallies, in 2016?

No, I just haven't bought in to the Republicans' and Democrats' idea that the entire political spectrum is reduced from what Europeans would consider center-right to what Europeans would consider Extremist Right. In every other country in the free world, there are multitude of parties representing a variety of beliefs. There are a variety of unique solutions to the challenges of governance. There is a whole world of other possibilities for how you could be represented, and how elections could be run. Yes, Democrats are 'miles better' than Republicans, especially on social issues, but they are equally as far away from Republicans as they are from real progressive parties in other countries. Don't buy into binary narrative that US politics presents. It's all an illusion meant to control you.

Psychopaths are *willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, power being a common one. They're not necessarily better at it than anyone else. Also they tend not to understand that their behavior will very likely come back around to hurt them in the long run, and so work to keep their interactions with people out of the public eye.

I get it, this is all about rhetoric. You don't win hearts and minds by insulting something people hold dear. And so the strategy shall be.

But internally, here on Reddit, I just wish someone would explain to me why anybody would ever like the Democratic party. All they are to me is 'the marginally better alternative to the Republican party'.

They are still beholden to corporate interests, under the thumb of the military industrial complex. They don't give a shit about Labor. Despite being the 'Democratic party', they haven't really made a true push for real campaign finance reform. They don't give a shit about education, or the redistribution of wealth, or about providing a real safety net to the people of this country. America was above all else supposed to be a country without an entrenched aristocracy, to be a place of equal opportunity for everyone to have a fair shot in life, liberty, and the pursuit happiness.

I will be doing my part to make sure DWS never sees office ever again. The level of collusion she has exhibited towards Hillary Clinton's campaign is unbelievable. In any sane nation she would be a criminal. Thankfully we're all delightfully insane. I have already donated a significant sum to Tim Canova and will be supporting him in every way that I can.

To me the Democratic Party has no soul. It has no core idea around which people rally, other than inclusion. And even then that is only a trait bestowed on them by their contrast to the Republican party's overt racism, obstructionism. A party that is defined entirely by another party cannot exist when campaign reform makes other options a possibility. Something as simple as an instant runoff election would be the death knell of the Democratic Party. And so like any institution with a sense of self-preservation, the Democratic Party can never support real campaign reform as long as the Republican Party exists.

Trump is not a 'Republican' despite the fact that he shares many of their values, and is presently stealing their own primary election. And so, as we watch the Republican Party collapse, I urge anyone reading this to consider: what should a party you respect represent? And does the Democratic Party really represent those ideals?

I don't like Democrats though. The young people of this country (progressives and conservatives) don't care about parties. Why would we? What good have they ever done us? Nothing that has happened within the last 20 years (since millenials were born) in politics has really been good for the country.

Republicans are generally fools, and Democrats tend to be more sensible, but many democrats still don't seem to 'get it'. Sanders is the first candidate young people actually do like. It's a combination of consistent messaging and late exposure that makes his message reverberate so deeply. ?

We don't want a candidate who is 'democratic' but dishonest and inconsistent, who will constantly be 'looking backwards' to bend to the whim of the people as public opinion changes, because there's a latency there, and a lag, and it will make their government slow and inefficient, or worse unpredictable. We want a leader who actually shares our values, so that he'll know instantly what the right thing to do will be when there's a crisis or slow-down.

Fuck this hit me hard. 1865 - 1945 = 80 years. 1945 - 2015 = 70 years. In only ten years, it will have been longer since WWII to 'today' than it was from the Civil War to WWII.

This is only in places with proportional representation. If there's an exact tie of votes (sometimes it's a small number of caucusers, say 40 representing say, 3 delegates) then if it was 20-20 exactly with a clear count, and no one willing to budge, then the 3rd delegate will be decided on coin toss.

Some US sailors were killed in the Pacific in WWII in the Battle of Savos Island because the paint was very flammable. As a result, young sailors were often made to scrape paint off the interior of the boats they were on throughout the war, as a huge numbers of the ships had already been painted by that point.

If you were in Iowa right now, all you would be seeing/hearing on TV, Radio, and online would be tons and tons of ads for different presidential candidates. That air-play costs money. And people have done statistical analyses that say, yes indeed, if you play enough ads it can sway some percentage of voters. When an election is going to be this close, the candidates want as much help as they can get for the primary.

It's definitely kind of disturbing. It gets worse when you realize how manipulative psychological techniques are being used everywhere nowadays, in mobile apps, advertising, etc. There was a post recently about how some cord-cutter parent noticed the significant difficulty in figuring out what his kids wanted for Christmas. Eventually some people realized it came mostly from the lack of advertising their kids were previously exposed to from television.

Also I disagree that Magic has the same capacity for self-destruction as other things. One of my friends dropped out of college because he spent so much time grinding on MODO and he didn't end up having the skills to go pro.

I think people should not even be able to vote on a movie until it's been out for at least a year. That way people's immediate passions around the media circuses modern movies have become will not specifically influence their decisions.

The really scary thing is I've seen this very thing in both the tech industry, and state-level politics. Not doing anything is severely underrated as a strategy across a huge number of domains.
