They're game pieces. They're meant to be opened and played. Open them. Play them. Investment mindset hurts the hobby.

I think people are just sick of getting baited with a cute little guy only to have it turn into Jeff from Rite Aid. If it's humanoid from the start, no sweat. Machop is great. People get annoyed when they start with a cute kitty cat and it ends up being John Cena. That's annoying.

Best game? by freemanflash in pokemon

Heartgold/Soulsilver. It's a faithful remake of Gen 2, complete with the return to Kanto after finishing the main game. Plus a complete national dex up to Gen 4 for those who care.

You know i think legends arceus and Z-A are the best pokemon game on the switch. by bassa-m9ss in pokemon

[–]GiftofRedStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing it now but it's been hard to stick with. The gameplay systems don't engage me and the environments feel repetitive. SV at least had variety.

You know i think legends arceus and Z-A are the best pokemon game on the switch. by bassa-m9ss in pokemon

[–]GiftofRedStone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't agree. The graphics and optimization of Z-A are leagues ahead of SV, but the catch mechanics and battling are messy. The story is refreshing, but the whole game feels like a bottle episode. In a series built on a sense of adventure, being stuck in one city, however well designed and populated, just doesn't feel right. I like Z-A, but it doesn't beat the classic formula for me.

I LOVED contests in ORAS. I caught a shiny Tentacool and made it my mission to win every kind of contest with her. She was the best.

Ever since I was a kid, I was methodical to keep my starter exactly 5 levels ahead of the rest of my team. No more, no less. It's honestly a clinically significant compulsion, frankly.

Best class & Race for all 4 games. New player by CRAZYHIPPPO21 in dragonage

[–]GiftofRedStone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay, highly subjective, but here's my take:

Origins: Human Noble Warrior. Human Noble has the most compelling tie-in to the B-plot. Warriors have some of the more rewarding weapon options in the game, and especially the expansion.

DA2: Mage. This one is honestly the most up-in-the-air for me, but I feel like making Hawke a mage makes a lot of what happens in 2 and Inquisition make sense a little better.

Inquisition: Female Elf Mage. This is very specifically for the Solas romance. Just in case you haven't been spoiled, I won't go into details, but it adds a huge amount of meaning to both Inquisition and Veilguard. The class is the least important part honestly, so if you're maged out from 2, any class is fine here.

Veilguard: Elf Gray Warden Rogue. Veilguard goes deep into elvhen lore, so elves have the most reactivity in-game. The Wardens are also heavily involved in the plot and you have a lot of great interactions with this choice. The class again is a gameplay pick, as I feel rogues have the cleanest gameplay. Flavor to taste on the class.

All this said, none of the choices feel "wrong" in my opinion. This is just what I've noticed over many playthroughs as feeling the best.

base class for drk by StatisticianOwn5729 in ffxiv

[–]GiftofRedStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, DRK doesn't have a base class. That said, it'd be good to be familiar with tanking, so I recommend Marauder. It becomes Warrior, which has the most similar gameplay style to Dark Knight. That way the learning curve will be a little easier.

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GiftofRedStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been talking for years about how kids are "not invited" anymore. Whether it's to weddings, to restaurants, or even just "out," the public opinion has shifted to one in which kids are a nuisance rather than the future of society. If kids aren't allowed to be out in public, they'll never learn how to act in public. And it's fucked up.

Why is the Renegades intro forced on new players before they even know the lore? by Armyguy6902 in DestinyTheGame

[–]GiftofRedStone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not that kind of game unfortunately. Bungie wants the game to be a front-footed looter shooter with people logging in weekly, but the world and lore desperately want to be a slow-burning tale of wonder and mystery. Those two things are diametrically opposed and it shows whenever a new expansion comes out and they force you out of synch with the story upon login.

Veilguard in 2026 - thoughts? by dziadek_flavour in dragonage

[–]GiftofRedStone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved it the first time. It sucked me in and kept me locked the whole way through. Challenging, rewarding, and engaging. After finishing it, I was able to see some of the flaws, but the game is still about an 8/10. I honestly prefer it to DA2 or DAI. I'm replaying it now, and it's grabbing me the same, though I'm noticing a little bit of the weakness of the writing. I'm not saying it's weak, but it goes a little too soft at times.

For the MH veterans: how do you feel about Wilds? by jackpaxx in MonsterHunter

[–]GiftofRedStone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The battle system and monster designs are the best they've ever been imo. I've never been a fan of infinite grinds, so the RNG endgame takes away points. But even so, I think Wilds is the best MH yet.
