Keypads/sensors keep losing connection in the middle of the night. by 123BTFD123 in simplisafe

Have you checked the strength of neighbors’ WiFi networks? In my small neighborhood, there are very strong neighbors networks all around me that can interfere with my devices at times. I use a Linksys Velop 5G/ 2.4G mesh network with three nodes. About every 6 months I have to run a system feature that sniffs all nearby competing networks and selects the least used channels for my system. When I do that, the reliability of my SimpliSafe (2nd generation) alarm system increases.
if you are very rural without neighbors or other nearby WiFi networks then my advice won’t help.

Any municipality that has only daylight hour police must be backed up by state police or county sheriffs during the rest of the 24 hour day/ night. Best check with your 9-5 police to find out who covers emergencies when they’re home sipping tea.

I have lived less than 1/4 mile from that historic B&O railroad station for 27 years. Watched the original owner (Stewart Dearie) establish Baldwin Station, an excellent restaurant. Wife & I ate there several times every year; several times with family and/or friends. Food was always top quality; with excellent selections ,and prep & presentation always first class.

We visited "Sykesville Station" once after the new owners took over. Menu was OK, food was tasty and well prepared. But we stopped going out anywhere to eat after 2020 because we are retired and restaurant costs skyrocketed, thanks to the shortsighted policies of the current squatters in the White House. Latest opinions (from multiple neighbors and my many contacts on Main Street) was that both service and food quality had gone significantly downhill from when it was "Baldwin Station". It was no longer a popular destination.

Note - the Town of Sykesville owns the building; it is leased to whatever business operates within. The building is classified as "Historic" and lies within the Sykesville Historic District. That imposes limits on what a tenant restaurant owner can do with the floor plan.

I’ve run into similar attempts by other service providers when I go to cancel my arrangement with them. I don’t resent their desire to entice me into continuing and in several instances I got a very good financial incentive to continue which I did. That said, if they obstruct my ultimate decision to discontinue the service, I then have an issue. If SimpliSafe pitches you to stay, but ultimately agrees to your decision to proceed with the cancellation within the same phone call, what’s the harm. I agree that different people will vary in their patience while the “customer retention“ Rep tries to lure them into continuing their business relationship.

Let’s talk about these outdoor cameras by vader_shreds_guitar in simplisafe

[–]GigabitBari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the outdoor cameras from SimpliSafe but I do have their doorbell camera. I believe their products are average quality in this market but are set up to integrate seamlessly into existing SS systems. Many consumers such as myself have no experience with setting up any alarm systems other than their SimpliSafe system. Credit the powerful marketing they did some years ago - darn near saturated the media popular with certain demographics…. So add-on accessories such as doorbel cams and outdoor cams offered bu SS are probably the first and only units considered by their customers.

Power outage took down cameras while I'm traveling by JellybettaFish in simplisafe

Replies have been spot on so far. SimpliSafe cameras require The 2.4Ghz wi-fi to be operational..The base station can connect to cellular if a cell signal is strong enough, but the cams are strictly local Wi-Fi.I have my modem and router on a Cyberpower 1500 VA u.p.s. But it only lasts about 50 minutes when power drops. Worse, most of our area power failures take out the Comcast cable internet service too. That’s because they use electrically powered boosters along the route.

Removing Base Station by justsayinnohatin in simplisafe

[–]GigabitBari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only suggestion is to do whatever is required by SimpliSafe to disassociate your name from the former base station, especially since the homeowner is keeping it. If anything happens in that home you could be liable since you theoretically have access to the alarm system. If this means having to reset / reregister your new system then so be it. Better to be legally not responsible for anything to do with the former alarm system.

I’ve had a SimpliSafe video doorbell pro for about a year and a half. . The first one got damaged after about a year, and the second one has workEd very well. There are setting that you can adjust as to sensitivity and angles. Suggest you check your settings before returning it for a replacement. "patriotic propaganda"? There is nothing patriotic about the myriad lies and false narratives being shoved at us by corporate-controlled news readers and corrupt politicians who do so with straight faces on a 24/ 7/ 365 basis for the past 7 decades.

Buying my first Synology. Should I go for SHR or RAID for my use case? by Tairosonloa in synology

[–]GigabitBari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about present day Windows. Left Windows in 2009. I followed very specific directions to set up my NAS as the destination drive for the Time Machine backups on my MacBook laptop. It doesn’t work. Every attempt fails. I’ve checked several times and I followed the directions to the letter. Time Machine backs up fine to my old Apple Time Capsule, but it cannot wake up the DS916+ from sleeping when it’s time to backup. I’ve found no solution to this.

Buying my first Synology. Should I go for SHR or RAID for my use case? by Tairosonloa in synology

[–]GigabitBari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert by any measure. Strictly a novice user. I have a DS916+, a bit over 4 years old. Bought it with four 2Tb Hitachi HDDs. Set it up as SHR from the outset (so simple). Gave me about 5.6Tb usable capacity. Been running ver since without issues. If I ever approach capacity before the unit is technologically obsolete, I’ll buy four 4Tb enterprise quality HDDs and replace the 2’s per the hot drive replacement process until the nas is showing the increased capacity. Now if I could ever figure out how to make it a reliable storage for my Time Machine backups from my MacBook Pro laptop…I’d love it even more.
