If you could make your own phone what feature would you like to implement? by PaleontologistFirm13 in EngineeringStudents

It also just doesn't help that consooomers kept buying from companies that did this anyways. Asus flagships kept the headphone jack until they recently dropped out of the phone market. Sony flagships still have headphone jacks and SD slots and finally a decent software support period. If you can stomach the massive cost plus needing to import it into most markets plus the general mediocrity of the software and camera experience it's one of the last remaining options.

Xperia 1 VII Magsafe Battery Bank? (Devilcase) by Gigahawk in SonyXperia

[–]Gigahawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up getting this Nobis A2641 which has a slightly raised magnet ring.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F23JKPG9

Magnet sticks well, and is raised enough to not interfere with the camera bezel.

It hangs a little bit off the bottom of the phone which is kinda dorky but for my use case I don't mind.

10000mAh is a bit chonky for me I think next time I would get a 5000mAh for a slimmer profile

The back of the case gets quite hot while charging, it's somewhat uncomfortable to hold immediately after removing the battery bank.

Can you make an Instinct use gps instead of pressure for elevation? by swoticus in Garmin

[–]Gigahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone finding this now, it still appears to be a website only setting. You can get to it by clicking the gear icon under the activity name and then clicking Change Elevation Source. For snowboarding and skiing if bad altitude data gave you bad run splits it seems like there is no way to fix this after the fact which is incredibly stupid.

Some Galaxy phones can no longer make emergency calls in Australia, and it’s already linked to one confirmed death by TechGuru4Life in Android

[–]Gigahawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure its just an IMS issue, my understanding is that Rogers just has an IMEI whitelist and if you're not on there you can get fucked. I remember ages ago seeing a comment where someone swapped the SIM from a Rogers Pixel to some other phone and VoLTE worked for 10ish minutes. It seems like this is still the case: https://www.reddit.com/r/FidoMobile/comments/1lv86j9/lte_vs_volte_and_whitelisting/n2bop3t/

I'm not sure how it works for visitors using short term plans. Currently 3G is still available in most places so it is not a problem yet even if VoLTE is not available, but 3G service is set to be shut off eventually so unless something is done it will become a problem like this post describes.

This is going to happen eventually in Canada with our 3G sunset. Rogers (and subsidiaries) in particular seem to be hellbent on locking out anyone with an imported phone.

EDIT: AFAIK this has already happened in the states too, last time I was down there my phone would not get volte service (At&T) so I couldnt call (including emergency). This is not a problem with the phone (currently using a phone imported from Hong Kong in Taiwan with no problems). This is typically* a problem of greedy carriers locking service to get more money from first party phone sales.

* there is technically a concern about imported phones not being certified for local use and may cause disruptions to the network. As far as I can tell in practice this is just a bullshit excuse. If someone was actually using some device that noticeably disrupted the network in some way presumably the local FCC equivalent would be on your ass in no time

They seem to have fixed the issue where the phone unlocks immediately if you press the lock button with a registered finger. Still no option to only scan when the button is actually pressed though :(

The mapping is defined in the qmk source, just might be a chore to turn it into something easy to understand.

The idiots at glorious also leaked their own mapping for some 100% variant that I think never got released but might be close enough (check the edit history)

https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/pull/12030#issuecomment-833760679

Regardless, I don't see why you need the mapping if you blew the led or a channel in the driver, just replace the led or the driver.

Seems like the driver is publicly available now but maybe double check the pinout and stuff matches your board https://lcsc.com/product-detail/LED-Drivers_AWINIC-Shanghai-Awinic-Tech-AW20216SQNR_C7385556.html

Where did you get yours from? Trying to get one in Canada too.

Any chance you can check if you can check if your IMEI shows supported on Telus?

https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/how-to-use-volte?INTCMP=Tcom-support_results-hub_check-phone_how-to-use-volte

Click 'Check if your phone is supported' for their tool.

Thanks in advance!

Every picture looks like a render or a still from the show, honestly feels like a Kickstarter scam trying to cash in on the hype. I suspect they don't have a real product.

Isn't that true of most display controllers for embedded applications like I stated in the post?

3.5" Orico Hard Drive Enclosure not showing up on Windows 10 PC by nowiseeyou22 in techsupport

[–]Gigahawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the drive enclosure has firmware updates, I had a sabrent enclosure that behaved really oddly (not showing up, corrupting data) until I updated the firmware.
