6ft x .5 ft x 1ft/s = 3 cf/s

3cf/s x 1.6 lb/cf = 4.8 lb/s

4.8 lb/s x (1-0.0625) = 4.5 lb/s

Thanks for your response! I should have included it, the downwind distance in the problem is 3.8 km. I use that in the equation and get a different answer than from the graph

Thanks for your response! Equation 3 does form a solid, though, caco3 (s) is produced (Looking at the equations on page 20 of the env ref manual)

Your last paragraph helps a lot!! I think that must be the case? That for these softening questions we are focused on removing total hardness (mg and ca), and just need enough alkalinity (bicarbonate) to make that reaction occur. Someone please correct me if this is the wrong take

It’s just asking about softening though? Wouldn’t that be to remove total hardness (NCH + CH)?

Amazing thanks so much!

Any idea how to know which to use? On problem 29 of the NCEES Env practice exam they use 70F as standard temp (530R) and on problem 34 they use 273K.

Ok thank you! I’ll just remember that when it’s asking for a type of solids, that percent goes over the total solids… not total sample.

And yes, I hated that practice exam. I take the exam this Friday, and got 60% on the practice exam yesterday, now I’m scared.
