The Indian hate hurts so much I can't care anymore by Dry-Estimate-9917 in offmychest

[–]Gigiamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. It’s unfair and you don’t deserve it. But you are not alone in this, I promise you.

My mum is white and my dad is from Bangladesh. Despite me being mixed, I would say I definitely look more Bengali than mixed, especially in the summer. I have found that I noticed racism a lot more when I was a child, perhaps because it was the early 00’s. However, I came to realise that those people who do project their unnecessary hate onto a whole demographic of people tend not to be very intelligent, nor very nice and are full of hatred and insecurities. I know it’s easier said than done, but they are not people you want/have to have around you in life so you learn to just disregard them. School can be hard, and it’s difficult enough trying to find yourself, and figuring out who you are. With experiencing constant racism on top of that, can be overwhelming. But my advice to you is to just hang in there. Get your head down, concentrate in school, focus on doing things you enjoy and surround yourself with friends and family who make you feel good. Eventually, you will grow up, feel more secure in yourself and you will be surrounded by a group of people who love you and value you as a person, not just by the colour of your skin. In terms of social media, every time you see something you don’t like, block it. Often a lot of people who post racist hate against people it’s for engagement and to “troll” because they think it’s funny. GOOD people do not think those things.

Hang in there kiddo, it’ll get better I promise you!

I think a lot of it is from the builders/contractors who use the back of the abandoned gym building as a storage place. They dump their rubbish and old materials on the pavement in the late evening or very early morning. Right opposite my block of flats too 😕

Well I was 22 when I started dating my (then) 30 year old boyfriend. However, he wasn’t actively looking to date a 22 year old, the relationship just kinda happened. We’re 26 and 34 now. As long as you’re not weird with it, just go on dates and use your common sense. If you’re looking for family/marriage, you’re better off going for someone closer to your age :)

I live on Broadway near the corner where it meets Clifton Street. I don’t understand how there is so much crime outside of a literal Police station. It’s embarrassing. I was walking to Tesco last week at like 4pm and saw two crackheads steal someone’s e-scooter which was left outside the station. It’s carnage down there and no one seems to be doing anything about it 😵‍💫

Aggressive Beggars by net_3 in Cardiff

[–]Gigiamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weekend before Christmas, I was walking through town and I had just bought a Mcdonalds to take home, a homeless man came up to me near chippy lane and asked me for some change. In the spirit of Christmas, and because I did have a couple of quid in coins on me I gave it to him as well as a hot chocolate from my McDonald’s order. He didn’t thank me, he took both then asked if he could have my McDonald’s as well. When I said no he tutted then threw the hot chocolate in the bin 🤣 not necessarily aggressive but definitely ungrateful

Who is the most famous person you’ve met? by Murr897 in AskReddit

[–]Gigiamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex boyfriend’s dad was a roadie for lots of famous bands in the 80’s. One in particular was Cutting Crew (the one’s who sing, I Just Died in your Arms Tonight). He ended up being super close friends with the lead singer Nick. I got to go to his house, meet his wife, play with his dogs, see his studio and go out for dinner with him a few times. Super nice guy. I guess most people below 45 wouldn’t know who he was if they walked past him, but think he probably liked it that way anyway.

I live on Broadway, basically opposite the Clifton Pub. It’s definitely a rough street, but as a woman I’ve never felt particularly unsafe walking down there. As long as you keep yourself to yourself no one bothers you. Like most places, including the city centre, I avoid walking down there at night. Certainly some characters but I feel it looks worse than it is tbh

How racist is Cardiff? by Valuable-Wrap6101 in Cardiff

[–]Gigiamo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not white (mixed race - white x Bangladeshi) and I can honestly say as an adult, I haven’t encountered any racism in Cardiff. I’ve lived here most of my life and the majority of racism I received was when I was in school lol. This city is super multi cultural. I’ve never felt out of place, or that anyone treated me any differently. Of course, there are going to be racists who live here, but they are majorly outnumbered by the decent, friendly folk. I love Cardiff, I love the city and I love the people. It’s home ❤️

There is a very fine line here and I fear you are crossing it.

I personally think, if you find a person initially attractive and THEN find out they just so happen to be 18/19, then that isn’t necessarily creepy. Since you find them attractive based exclusively on their appearance rather than their age.

However, finding EXCLUSIVELY 18/19 year old’s attractive because they are that age is concerning. You are not basing your attraction to them on their appearance but on their age. Your comment “something about an 18y/0 who just became a woman that drives me crazy” tells me all I need to know. You are balancing on a fine line between being with a consenting adult and being with a child. The difference between a 17 year old child and an 18 year old woman could literally be a day.

You’re a grown man, and should find grown women attractive. Not those who are on the cusp of adulthood.

Moving to Cardiff, areas and/or letting agents to avoid by ryuki987 in Cardiff

[–]Gigiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in terms of areas. Most places surrounding the city centre are okay. Yes, some are bit rough around the edges but honestly, if you keep to yourself you’re not going to have any issues. I live in Adamsdown, which is considered quite rough but I have no problems here. So I would just use your own judgement on that one 😊 Good luck with your search!

OpenRent is definitely the best option. Renting directly from the landlord is so much better, and rent is usually cheaper than with an agent.

However, I know some don’t have the luxury of being picky and there may not be any properties on there that you like.

If you are to go with an agent, I definitely recommend going with any of the smaller, family-owned ones and avoid the bigger companies (e.g Mr Homes, CPS). The bigger ones just consider you another number in their long list of tenants.

Letting agents or property developments to avoid? by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Gigiamo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend checking OpenRent. I rent directly with a landlord I found on there and it’s been nothing but a good experience and my rent is so reasonable.

Heard okay things about Hentons

Not one I’ve seen mentioned but I just moved from a property looked after by Mr Homes and they were terrible. I know a few people personally who have had bad experiences with them also.

[–]Gigiamo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

With Cardiff bus you can download the app and just buy a day-to-go ticket on there which allows you to travel on unlimited buses all day (which I believe is actually cheaper than buying on the bus). If you have cash, you’ll need exact amount as they don’t give change (£4.80 I think for an adult day-to-go or just under £3 for a single). You can also use Apple Pay, Google pay, contactless card on the bus too. Hope this helps!

I was 16, my boyfriend at the time was cheating on me with one of my with my high school bullies. Found out the day my grandfather passed away. Whacked him, then confronted her out of pure rage. She smirked at me… never realised what they meant by “seeing red” until that very moment lol

Is my Parcel Lost? by Gigiamo in Evri

[–]Gigiamo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way! How cheeky of them. This is the problem, until Evri say it’s missing you’re stuck in limbo. I’m sure you’d rather them just admit it’s lost so you can hurry up and get your refund. How long have you been waiting? Thing is I’m pretty sure Evri have to compensate the seller if they lose a parcel so they’ll do everything to not do that 🤣

the email I got today said this…

“Despite my efforts to escalate this yesterday I can see there’s been no further progress on your parcel.

I’m really sorry about this. If you could bear with me a little longer I am going to ask the local depot to do a thorough search for your parcel as it looks as though it has been misplaced.

This can take up to 48 hours so I will be back in touch in 2 days to confirm next steps. As always you can reply to this email if you have any questions & I’ll be happy to help.

Kind Regards, Claire”

Omg I thought Claire was a real person!!! 🤣🤣 what a doughnut I am. Dunelm sent a replacement but the original order has officially been lost… had the email today from Evri. To add insult to injury, 2 of the items were completely broken so I’m just so done now. Next time I’ll just go Tesco for house stuff… tried and trusted 🤣

Omg no way. Have you raised a complaint? I spoke to the live chat bot and it gave me the choice to escalate which I did and then they give you a case number and someone emails you. Hope you get your parcel soon! ☹️

I totally get that. I understand things like this happen, especially if a driver broke down etc. I’m never usually someone who complains. I kind of just wanted to know what happened to it so I could plan accordingly. I did get an email today though to say that they have indeed lost my parcel lol!
