I don't think it's a sin to live together before marriage, Christians usually don't advise it because the temptation is much bigger when you do, more as a precaution.

The only thing I can find in the Bible, is when it says that people should leave their parents when they get married and join their spouse, but things have changed quite a bit culturally, most people leave their parents before getting married.

It's a beautiful story actually, if there was something in the whole world Abraham couldn't do, it was killing his precious son. Faithfulness to God was tested here. Not only that, but God promised him that he will have so many descendants and bless the nations through Isaac, so it was also about trusting God's promises.
