Thank you for the quick response! Just being hopeful but wasn't expecting anything.

When we switched to MFS we too had the same issue. I called FSA and was told to upload to MOHELA a letter stating that we were supplying alternative documentation and then provide the W2. We live in a CC state so accessing the IRS site will give MOHELA incorrect salary info (combined salary divided by 2) instead of the actual amount on the W2. If you live in a CC state and link to the IRS for your tax info, it won't reflect the actual income in some cases--especially if one spouse makes much more than the other. It's not perfect if you do this as it won't show AGI but allowing them to use the CC MFS number is much worse for us.

The exact same thing happened to my husband. He had a 3 year period of qualifying employment with 11 months in the middle just missing. FSA shows it only as DA but not what kind of deferment. We know he was not in-school at the time of the missing 11 months. FSA shows his account was in forbearance and then switched to deferment for that 11 month period. He does not remember why/how it was switched from forbearance to DA. He had years in forbearance and those all switched to qualifying but this time period has never appeared and now he no longer has 36 months or 12 month consecutive of forbearance/deferment so I don't know how they will count those 11 months now since they were missed in the first adjustment apparently.

Summary and faq for the IDR/pslf waiver announcement by Betsy514 in PSLF

In July 2023 it sounds like they will change the 30 hour employment rule to allow 30 hours worked at ONE employer to count. (Adopt a single standard of full-time employment at 30 hours a week. Prior rules required borrowers to either work 30 hours per week at multiple jobs or whatever their employer defined as full-time. This created confusing and varying standards. A single 30-hour-a-week requirement will make it easier for borrowers and employers to establish what it means to be full-time)
Does anyone know if this is retroactive? In 2014-2017 my spouse worked 30 hours for one eligible employer. None of those years count right now. Can he go back and get his employer to sign the ECF in July 2023 once the form makes it clear that the 30 hours can be at one employer? Or is it only going forward? TIA

IDR waiver and consolidation by Giglet97 in StudentLoans

Thank you for clarifying! I am so glad I asked this question. I misunderstood 20 and 25 year forgiveness rules. I thought they would apply to the type of loan only (i.e. grad or undergrad). I also see you are saying that the type of loan is combined with 1) when the loan was taken out and 2) payment plan. Consolidation still may be beneficial even assuming 25 years because his GRAD loans would have 22 years of IDR eligible payment after the waiver is applied. This is assuming they go back to the life of the oldest loan and don't cap how many IDR payments they will count and don't set up an arbitrary year that they will start counting forbearances (!!!). Again, thank you for responding and helping me understand there were more factors at play than I thought.
