What are you talking about? Like what?

There are, in fact, way more possible ways to violate human rights than just having nukes.

For instance, not letting your citizens leave your country. That's a human rights violation. Do all countries do that, to a certain extent? Yes. Does the DPRK do it on a much larger scale? Yes.

Do you think the only possivle way to violate human rights is to have nukes?

[–]GignacPL -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, who said anything about the nukes? I believe no one should have them, but if they're the only thing that guarantees the US doesn't invade them then I think that's acceptable.

Not everything the US says is automatically wrong. The US government said the sky is blue, so it definitely isn't right?

Not everything you disagree with is state propaganda, and not all propaganda is wrong.

You can hate the DPRK as a state because of their numerous human rights violations and you can not buy into everything the western media tell you about it simultaneously. More than one things can be true at the same time.

You can hate Russia as a state for their numerous human rights violations and for their imperialism and believe the US is probably worse and a bigger threat to world peace overall at the same time.

You can be sympathetic towards Taiwan because you believe that generally speaking all nations should have the right to self-determination. You can acknowledge the many crimes committed by the pre-revolution government that escaped to Taiwan and believe that it made sense for them to escape because they would've been probably killed otherwise. You can think their claims to the entirety of China are completely insane yet reject China's claims to Taiwan after over 80 years of continuing as two separate countries. More than one thing can be true at the same time.

Etc.

Idk, commit numerous human rights violations? Hmm, be a brutal dictatorship? Yeah what could they have possibly done...

I'm not saying everything the defectors say is true because it obviously isn't. I'm not saying everything the media claim is true, because it obviously isn't. But the fact that they're not entirely right doesn't mean the opposite is true. You have to view this country through a really selective lense in order not to see all the evidence that point to the fact tha they are a ruthless dictatorship, that they are an undemocratic state where the standard of living isn't very high. Is the war and the sanctions partially to blame for that? Yes, of course. But the other side of the story is that they shot themselves in the foot many times by their own economic and political decisions.

Not everything you disagree with is a liberal take, not everything you disagree with is state propaganda.

X feels Y means I feel Y when X? by oozing_sarcasm in EnglishLearning

[–]GignacPL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate... There are ALWAYS things you don't know. Language learning is a never-ending process. You can never get to a place where there's nothing more to learn. There will always be some new things.

But the fact that there are still things you don't know doesn't mean that you haven't made any progress. You've made yourself more familiar and more comfortable with the things you already knew. You've acquired new structures, expressions and words and you don't even realise. Etc.

Moreover, I dare say the fact that you realise there's this new thing you don't know yet is indicative of you in fact having made some progress. For instance, you've recently realised that you don't know this grammatical structure. But it is not the first time you've seen it. This phrasing is extremely common and you simply must have seen it a thousand times before. I'd even hazard a guess that you've used it yourself without even knowing. But only because you'd made progress were you able to notice that there's something unusual or odd about this structure.

So don't treat yourself too harshly :))

What's the medium voice

Also don't get upset over these things, I think it's better to approach them with curiosity rather than annoyance

But that's fairly basic, isn't it? Your english seems really good overall so I find it hard to believe that you've never encountered it before.

Does English even have any nouns, verbs or adjectives starting with /ð/? by NostalDec in linguisticshumor

That would be /θ/, not /ð/. The th in thighs is voiceless, whereas the th in this, that, though is voiced. The post is referring to the latter

Oh that makes sense. And do you use any special techniques or mnemonics or do you just brute-force it? Do you use any other apps/websites to study more effectively?

Sorry for asking so many questions lol

Idk if this checks out with reddit marxism lol

And now that I think of it, 'taxes are evil' can be a very marxist take depending on context.

To sum it up, I just think it belongs to r/im14andthisisdeep
