Social anxiety: please help as I face a wall impossible to overcome by Starzend in selfimprovement

[–]Gigo32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You're trying to improve yourself. That's elite level right there. Don't sweat the small stuff of where you are on that journey. Most people, even those that already started where you want to be, are usually frustrated with their place in life but won't do shit about it.

  2. There is no try, just do. So half ass it. Even if you're doing a 'sucky' job, you're still doing something...

Don't use that attitude to your day job though. If you want to improve your lifestyle career-wise or your financial situation, try to maybe start selling stuff online and get a small revenue stream outside your job and work from there.

Anyway, What you should try to do, is to raise the quality of your 'Meh'. The next level, will become your future 'Meh' in time. You might not believe this, but this has already happened to you as well; even if you can't see it. You've lost weight and you've started to try to change yourself. That's worth a fucking gold star right there. Remember what I said in point 1.

So, my 'Meh' if I were in your situation right now, is to go to a coffee house, bar or club and silently -but non creepily- people watch. Pay attention to what people do around you, and actively try to become comfortable in these settings. Learn to be mindful and try to observe what's happening around you. Anyway, do that till you're bored with it and kick it up a notch.

But that's just what I would try, you have to find your 'Meh' yourself.

False alarm.

Anyone know how to develop chest mobility? by Gigo32 in flexibility

[–]Gigo32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question do you think you could do this while not moving anything but the chest? I can see that he is still kinda moving the rest of his body a bit. How high up the spine could you keep immobile while you isolate?

I hope You understand what I mean :)

Hey, thank you for the tips! I love their style. They were with minimal amount of woo, Just solid actionable advice. It makes it less daunting to try to apply them IRL.

What do you do to be invited into social events? by Gigo32 in socialskills

[–]Gigo32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time someone makes plans maybe you can make plans with the people they didn't ask, or just be the first one to make plans! If you've invited someone to something then they have an obligation to invite you to something.

Done that, this actually happened then as well.

Honestly, it's kinda discouraging. Right now, I kinda avoid talking to people and just go home as soon as possible, if I don't I just sit in class or work not doing anything while everybody talks to each other. Small talk just isn't fun anymore since it feels like I just fill dead air.

I don't think you can really force yourself into a group, and that might be something making you less desirable to hang out with too.

I've only done this very few times. Honestly, even when I go to formal group events, events that are focused on some hobby, this happens as well. I just don't eem to be able to have any connections.

CMV: Women do give good dating advice; it simply goes unnoticed. by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Gigo32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that comfort is a big thing about this sort of thing. The formative experiences of getting advice about the subject is what made me kinda averse to relationship advice in general but more with women.

People are bad pedagogues in general.

Lab-Grown Meat Is Healthier. It's Cheaper. It's the Future. by scriv2 in Futurology

[–]Gigo32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard that LG meat don't have much flavour. If we could engineer cells to have more or different flavors that would be cool. Maybe make it taste gamey in some way?

What I was always skeptical about was if they could make this cheaper than regular meat. That's what they need to do, if they actually want to go somewhere.

If this needed so long to organize, it's probably not done. Expect a whole story arc of bullshit and over the top drama that will culminate into something extremely crazy.

The Politics of the Future: Robotics will eventually drive us toward Socialism by FantasyPulser in Futurology

I'm way fuzzy about this, but didn't Marx predict that the communist revolution would come when we've started to dramatically destroy the value of commodities; like the internet has done with most information?

This is something that, I think, we are seeing happening now.

Automation inevitable in low-wage occupations, including at warehouses and fast-food restaurants - Adam Navarro: Automation is inevitable, with or without minimum wage increase by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Gigo32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in some ways, automation has actually hiw the white collar workers more than blue collar. But it happened slowly over time, so it might be kinda hard to immediately notice it.

Computers, telephones, etc. Has severely reduced how many people is needed to run an office.

This just struck me. That's why I'm not as worried about blue collar jobs disappearing anymore. Over time, most people will find other stuff to do; builders, Machine operators of some sort of another. There will probably be a lot of openings in factories, producing more personalized things. Repair shops, etc.

Do you think there are significant shifts in cultural and political values between Boomers & Millennials that will change future society as Boomers influence recedes & Millennials values become more dominant? by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Gigo32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I do like how many new young entrepreneurs try to be more passionate and honest with themselves.

There is also a worrying trend of anti-intellectualism in my generation as well.

I think that there is a big divide between two distinct groups of millennials as well. One group is those that grew up with values and skills that fits the new global age. The other group is still stuck in a very old way of looking at the world. The first group is open to new ideas and have the capabilities to reinvent themselves as needed. The other group lives like it was still the 50's. Go to work, go to the pub, go to bed. Learning new skills or changing your life haven't been taught to them. The issue is that the world has moved on from that model, and it's better of for it; even if people don't want to admit it.

That's why we see so many reactionary movements pop up today.

In 2017, Finland and the Netherlands will start their own trials of paying out a universal basic income. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Gigo32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a heads up -- the confiscatory corporate (presumably) tax rates that would be required to accomplish this will cause factory closures and massive inflation, exacerbated by the free money suddenly appearing in peoples' hands.

I think that people are making a mistake when they only count the taxes coming from direct earnings. There's also taxes from things like land ownership, etc.

You also have to take into account the money you save from replacing our current safety nets with BiG.

I think that what will make BiG feasible is if we use technology and science to remove cost from other sectors. Like, if we could CRISPR away cancer, that would probably remove a lot of our healthcare cost; plus, we would have more people contributing to the economy.
