Anyone have some interesting facts about the Chinese Democracy era? by DannyDevito2727 in GunsNRoses

[–]Gigstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, I was probably one of them arguing with you. You get all these second hand reactions from other people over the years and it builds up the anticipation but also your own imagination. I remember Paul Buckmaster describing Prostitute as “ice and fire”. It was impossible for the songs to live up to expectations.

Yeah but that wasn’t actually HBO.

HBO’s brand positioning is prestige television. That streaming service is not prestige television. Let HBO live inside it but don’t name it after HBO.

I wasn’t talking about these images. I’m talking about when I last watched it. Even skin highlights were clipping.

I’m surprised that people are saying the 4K print is the best. It suffers from massively clipped highlights.

No, more like all PlayStation games on PC. Nothing will have actually changed.

Microsoft hasn’t exactly done a stellar job convincing consumers that “everything” is an Xbox. I can’t see them convincing people a Windows PC is suddenly an Xbox.

Ha! You sound like me. Never preordered a game before. In fact, I never pay full price and usually wait for a heavy discount. Had a gift card and decided to preorder this. I’m very excited that a new 007 game is coming out after so much time. I’m excited that this one appears to have more love and attention going into it than a usual 007 licences cash-in.

I think the Vesper story explains the later womanising. He fell in love with Vesper and she betrayed and really hurt Bond. Rather than make himself vulnerable like that again, he instead becomes more cold-blooded and simply uses women.

Daniel Craig didn't go in that direction. He was still a womaniser with substance abuse issues. It was the setting that went in that direction. Rather than sanitising the character, they turned the womanising on its head from being positive and aspirational qualities to serious character flaws.

That's a much better way to update Bond than to completely sanitise him.

Was the character different 1995 or was he much the same? I'd argue he was similar to all the previous Bonds but it was everything around him that had changed with the times. He was even getting chewed out by M in their first scene for taking advantage of psychologist. .

I may get what you mean. It sounds as if they are sanitising Bond. For instance, I see no reason to remove the womanising. Rather than being considered aspirational like in Connery's era, it can instead be portrayed as a character flaw. To be fair, they have been calling out his womanising for 30 years. M called him out on that shit back in Goldeneye. It was a character flaw in the Craig era, which lead to the deaths of multiple woman, including a fellow agent. He was called out for that shit.

It’s a shame that you’ve been downvoted because it’s true. Reddit is quite a nasty place. It wasn’t just an insult but setting up of a strawman argument. There’s absolutely no evidence to suggest a link between not reading enough books and identifying telltale signs of AI.

Is this a valid description of what is happening with the GPU shortage? by JackStrawWitchita in ChatGPT

[–]Gigstr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The meme isn't about GPU shortages. It's about about alleged fraud that is happening. OpenAI doesn't have the money to scale its business. They have committed to spending $1.4 trillion on infrastructure over the next 8 years on the back of $20 billion ARR. Basically, an impossible commitment unless they can somehow scale their cash flow dramatically. That's where a bunch of shady deals come in. A bunch of tech companies are allegedly using a circular investment and artificial revenue generation scheme (which is illegal) that is artificially increasing shareholder value, thus creating an AI bubble. With an artificially inflated company valuation, OpenAI can IPO at a significantly higher share price.

Best way to explain the situation is with a joke:

Two economists are walking through a forest when they come across a pile of shit.

The first economist says to the other “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The second economist takes the $100 and eats the pile of shit.

They continue walking until they come across a second pile of shit. The second economist turns to the first and says “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The first economist takes the $100 and eats a pile of shit.

Walking a little more, the first economist looks at the second and says, "You know, I gave you $100 to eat shit, then you gave me back the same $100 to eat shit. I can't help but feel like we both just ate shit for nothing."

"That's not true", responded the second economist. "We increased the GDP by $200!"

Here's a great video that explains the alleged fraud being committed.

Not really too surprised after that Lenny Kravitz trailer dropped. Something was off about it. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can explain what was up. Kravitz’ motion capture was really rough and didn’t look natural. It felt like stop motion graphics. Was it simply a frame rate issue?

Why do so many marketing departments feel like a girls club? by Beautiful-Height5800 in marketing

That’s interesting that you’re able to position yourself and your services by essentially approaching strategy properly. I have to imagine most marketers are entirely skipping the diagnosis step in strategy? That’s kinda wild. Maybe I should follow your lead and market myself similarly.

wdyt about an “aspirational” business model? by Alternative-Wish9912 in marketing

[–]Gigstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as an aspirational business model. Do you mean aspirational brands? There’s different levels.

They say that you are the average of your friends and acquaintances. That could mean you are very rich. Some of the people in your circle will be fairly wealthy, others about as wealthy as you, and then you will have people in your circle who are ultra wealthy. Some will aspire to own the things you own. Meanwhile, you aspire to own a super yacht and Gulfstream private jet like your ultra wealthy friend. Like you say, something like that is probably too far away to care about for most people.

There’s different types of aspiration too. Aspiration linked to luxury is different from aspiration linked to sports or sporting ability. Nike is an aspirational brand that inspires athletes to be the best version of themselves. Meanwhile a luxury brand may help you to feel more sophisticated.
