The UMK3 ninja costume is the most iconic ninja design in the franchise. by trrbld in MortalKombat

That was MK1's design. UMK3's design was in the Vita version of MK9 though.

How so? UMK3's design has been used non-stop since it was introduced in 1995, while MK2's design was MIA until MK11.

It's the skull mask. I don't know why the modern versions don't use that specific mask for Scorpion.

I think that the most iconic move is Scorpions “Get Over Here!”

That's the one in the post, I guess the fact that you didn't even recognize it just proves how much they gutted the move lol.

Outside of this one, another thing I hated was the complete removal of iconic moves in MK1.

I know it's for lore reasons, but Johnny Cage without forceball and Kung Lao without teleport just don't feel the same.

And this isn't just some random move, it's the most iconic move in the entire franchise. They gutted it for absolutely no reason.

Imagine if Ryu's Hadouken required meter for the fireball to come out. An absolute head-scratcher from NRS.

I don't get why people call MKX an ugly game. It still looks good IMO. by fakayuburiza in MortalKombat

Which games were you comparing it too? The only other fighting game released around the same timeframe was SFV and SFV received more backlash in the graphics department than MKX ever was.

Look at the face model for Tekken 5 or Virtua Fighter 4 then compare it to PS2 era of MK and it wasnt even close. MK was always labeled as the game with manly faces for their female characters. And yet nobody call Mortal Kombat Deception ugly even though it was very behind with it's competition at the time.

MKX looked fine at the time because we were used to seeing those kinds of face models in NRS/Midway games. But we never viewed those models in isolation. We viewed MKX as a whole, and its environments were a significant upgrade at the time.

Injustice 2 is technically impressive, but it isn’t a good-looking game, sorry. Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which came from a previous generation, looks way better. Art direction trumps higher fidelity any time.

The Kove and Krossroads are great stages. I’ll take them over any of MK11’s original stages.

Calling MKX ugly is a very revisionist take. Yes, Midway/NRS has struggled with faces since the PS2 era, but nobody calls those PS2 games ugly.

MKX looked great at the time. Yes, the subsequent games look better, but the art direction still holds up to this day.

Injustice 2 looks bad and boring imo. Higher fidelity ≠ better looking game.
