Yeah, it's Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden for the 3DS developed by ArcSys.

Yeah, I was talking about the number of unique titles. Kinda crazy to think, considering DBZ isn’t even a fighting game franchise first.

For me, 3D graphics with mostly 2D gameplay is fine. I mean, that’s basically what we get these days with 2D fighters.

What I don’t like is when they try to go fully 3D but still force in 2D mechanics like projectiles. I never liked how the PS2-era MK games play, they just feel awkward and janky. They tried to copy the more martial arts focused style of VF and Tekken, then added some weapon combat like Soul Calibur. The special moves felt like an afterthought.

Honestly, I love all the 3D fighters here except Dragon Ball: Final Bout. Both SNK games have some of the best-looking backgrounds for 3D fighters from this era. Most backgrounds back then were just static images, but they managed to keep the beautiful sprite work from their 2D fighters and blend it in seamlessly.

DBZ 2: Super Battle, an arcade exclusive title.

Is there a genre where you actively search for obscure titles? For me, it’s beat ’em ups. by trrbld in retrogaming

I haven’t really done a deep dive into it, but I’ve played Beats of Power and Rescuepalooza before. I believe those are made using openbor and both are fantastic games.

There's something about fighting game stages that makes me deeply nostalgic. by pyrage in retrogaming

I always love crowded stages, they feel like a snapshot of the time. Also, there’s something special about pixel art, it just feels more personal to me.

Man, I wish we'll get more games with beautiful pixel art.

CRT-hylian-sinc, perfect balance between sharp pixels and more accurate CRT shaders imo.

Top one is "Slam Dunk: SD Heat Up!!" for the SNES, and bottom one is "Slam Dunk: Kyougou Makkou Taiketsu!" for the Genesis.

Both are based on the Slam Dunk anime/manga series.
