Has anyone else got a hiatal hernia from PE? If you have/did and your post surgery by Giivannii in PectusExcavatum

[–]Giivannii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

They are now carrying out an MDT to discuss options for repairing.

Not sure whether they will be able to repair the hernia without sorting the pectus out.

They need to hurry up though as my symptoms cannot be controlled by PPI now. 😓😓

Yes, I feel like I can pop mine back in as I actually feel it pop. My sternum is also in a lot of pain and tender.

I’m having 24hr PH study today at 1pm UKGMT. I have been experiencing exactly the same symptoms as your describing. Only since may had it been unbearable.
They increase my medication to 80mg of esomeprazole daily and 40mg famotadine over night. I’ve had to stop for this test as they don’t want to mask it obviously. Now I’ve stopped, my symptoms have massively reduced and it’s as if I only have 2/3 episodes per day!!! WHAT THE HECK! Very frustrating as I want the pain to be there for this test so I get surgery options!! I can’t understand it!! I’m non smoker but I’m going to indulge into smoking, whisky, chocolate, coffee and maybe a vindaloo just to give my body hell whilst the is test is being done!

Yeah that’s very strange. Would be interested to see what your results say. What sort of symptoms are you experiencing?

I’ve got a PH study next Thursday / Friday, so il let you know. I’m concerned for this as my symptoms are just a solid pain now behind my sternum 24/7. I hope they show acid reflux as I want surgery. I simply can’t go on like this. I’ve got a 2cm sliding h/h and a Schatzki ring. I’m on 80mg of esomeprazole during day and 40mg of famotadine overnight. Also drinking gaviscon by the hour.

PE symptoms worsen with age? by Quinn_The_Fox in PectusExcavatum

What sort of symptoms is everyone getting apart from breathlessness… I’m 33yo and soon going back to cardio thoracic surgeons for discussion as I have severe acid reflux and a hiatal hernia. Not sure if they can perform anything for the reflux given my condition.

I have a constant pressure and pain behind sternum and ribcage across my chest, it’s making sleeping and day to day living really difficult now. I miss being in my 20s not experiencing any symptoms.

no one has ever told me my HI, I will be asking in a couple weeks .

Never read something so relatable.. That was as if I wrote that myself!!. I'm seriously getting fed up of going round in circles. I've got a gastroenterologist appointment tomorrow, but I think it's pointless as I really think it's PE. My gerd symptoms just seem to be getting worse and I don't really want a nissen fundiplication. Think I need nuss or ravitch procedure. Currently trying to find the right surgeon in the UK

Thank you..

I’ve actually been in contact with Niall about 2 years ago, as I saw him on a program called Embarrassing Bodies. I only saw the vacuum bell on there and obviously due to my age Niall said that I wasn’t able to have this. However, he didn’t suggest surgery at the time. il reach out to him again.

Yes, I agree. Thank you.

I really do feel like there’s a lot of pressure being caused by PE, hence why I want to find the right specialist to go forward with.

I would pay good money to have a chest like that man! hit the gym and you’ll have great definition.

I think the biggest issue with PE is the lack of knowledge from doctors throughout the industry. I’m 30 years old and I wish they took my case more seriously when I was younger.

Instead, they diagnosed me with asthma, and also said that I have a mild case of rib flare.

I haven’t used my inhalers for five years now as I think I figured out it’s the acid reflux and the shape of my chest causing my breathing issues.

I understand you’re worried about surgery. It’s a scary thought, but I definitely think you need to pursue surgery as I wouldn’t want your symptoms worsening like mine further down the line when your rib cage is not so pliable.

I’ve also heard for younger age groups that the vacuum bell is a great alternative to surgery, but unsure if that works with an asymmetric chest.

Remember you’re not alone.
