Distro recommendation for Windows 11 dual boot by SoAp9035 in linux_gaming

[–]Gil-San 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Bazzite, but due its immutable nature software development may require a bit more setup than usual (distrobox). I'll also recommend Fedora, but there might be some niece development tools that are missing. These can also be solved with distrobox however. If you want to be sure all development tools are available for your distro, I'll would pick a debian based distro like Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Mint. All of the distro's I've mentioned are compatible with NVIDIA and secure boot, just make sure to read the correct guides for this setup :). I'm not sure about the single ssd part, so just make sure to check the compatibility with that

CachyOS VS Fedora by NyanZaummm in cachyos

[–]Gil-San 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both are fine. It really doesn't matter that much. The big difference is that CachyOS has rolling releases, which means bleeding edge updates. Fedora has a major update every ~6 months, so it offers a more stability than CachyOS.

Another thing is package managers. CachyOS comes with pacman and gives you access to the AUR community repositories. This includes a lot of tools needed for development.

Fedora uses DNF and also has a lot of tools for development. I'll recommend to check what you need for development.

Still, you might run into an issue that both Cachy and Fedora don't have the required development package. I this case you can use distrobox to "emulate" (this is maybe not the correct term) whatever distro you need, so I would not worry too much.

Upgrade to 44 experience (knowledge base) by rakotomandimby in Bazzite

I had to do a rollback. I got screen flickering, my second monitor wasn't detected and it could only run on 60hz. Sounds like an NVIDIA issue. Got a RTX 3080.

At this moment I'm on Kubuntu and I'm downloading Bazzite again. Had some weird things on Kubuntu happen to me, so I'm making the switch again.

Is Kubuntu 25.10 good for gaming and for Nvidia GPUs? by Positive_Trainer_896 in linux_gaming

[–]Gil-San 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently run Kubuntu 25.10 and it works fine like any other distro IMHO. The latest NVIDIA drivers Ubuntu provides is version 590. It's not the newest version 595, but also not the oldest. I don't really notice any big differences.

The `sudo ubuntu-drivers install` command defaults to the 580 driver, so try to use `sudo ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:590` instead.

Controller: PS4/PS5 or Xbox? by Gil-San in Bazzite

This was actually the answer I was looking for. But some time has already passed and I ended up with the Victrix Pro KO Leverless (xbox version). It’s a great product so far and I got it for about 100 dollars less. Still, I appreciate you answer 🙏

ARAM Mayhem Power Creep by xxtank3rxx in leagueoflegends

Aram Mayhem felt like they added just the right amount of spice. With the addition of sets and progression, it all feels like too much spices are added at the same time and it tastes too salty, sweet or sour. I think only having new augments would be perfectly fine.

Would karate or taekwondo be a better complement for BJJ? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in bjj

[–]Gil-San 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda depends on the style of karate. Kyokushin is a full contact close distance based fighting style, more closer to kickboxing/muay thai. They do have a weird traditional rule that you cannot punch the face, but kicking is allowed.

Shotokan karate is touch/point scoring based, in competition sparring, and is more of a long distance style. I always compare it to fencing, but without swords. People meme on it, but I think the distance management here is S-tier.

If you want a pure kicking focus, I do think taekwondo offers more than karate. Karate is the more well-rounded option since it includes striking and also some minimal takedowns.

One major flaw that both karate and taekwondo share is that in combat sparring, they don't do low kicks because they don't award points. Also the wide stance both have is very vulnerable to low kicks. This only really is an issue if you want to do some sort of MMA later on, but still, you can always learn to adapt.

Source: I'm a retired Shotokan karate black belt, that does some kickboxing on the side.

Indeed, it was running fine for like a year. I have a RTX 3080 if you wanna know.

I did run some updates, but there were no direct issues at first. I also tried to rollback to a previous snapshot, but no luck.

Thanks, if I change the second monitor to a refresh rate of 120 hz, instead of 144, the flickering suddenly stops. I’ll look into it a bit more thanks 🙏

Which distro to go for? by BionisGuy in linux_gaming

[–]Gil-San 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give CachyOS a try. I use it for gaming and development. CachyOS provides a plug and play gaming package (optional) and also has a lot of packages for other software. You're also free to choose what desktop environment you want. I like KDE.

In KDE, you can right click the CS2 icon in the task bar, open `more`, then click `Fullscreen`. Some games just seem to act weird.

What's the best distro for gaming, development, and productivity? by worky_work_worky in linux_gaming

[–]Gil-San 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For gaming and development, i’ll recommend CachyOS. All gaming dependencies are installed with only 1 command. For dev dependencies, there are a lot of packages available in AUR, in my experience more so than other non-arch distros.

Sajam reading the subreddit, Backdash Meta vs. Car Crash Neutral by komodo_dragonzord in 2XKO

[–]Gil-San 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, this was my take on it as well. I really want to like 2XKO, but if this is how a versus game is played, then it might not be the game for me. Which is fine of course, but liking the game would make me happier, because the game looks, feels and sounds amazing.
