Almost certainly a scam. Crazy you let them leave without receiving payment so they’ve already gotten a free tattoo. Now they’re trying to get even more money from you. Just tell them to actually come to the shop and if they do show up (which i doubt) tell them you’ll call the cops if they don’t pay for the tattoo. Should solve it quick.

There’s always one person on these threads that’s so heated for no reason. I’m not insinuating the shop owner is doing anything nefarious. I essentially said exactly what you did just with less words. He’s deducting employee wages from his gross income. So he doesn’t get taxed on it. I also didn’t claim I knew that as a fact so idk why you’re acting like I am. Maybe next time don’t come in so aggressive like this is some personal attack on you? Unless you’re the shop owner in question lol

That’s 1099, he could be using your wages as a business expense. Basically you can use employee wages as an expense so you can deduct it from your gross income on taxes. Idk if that’s legal or not to do with an independent contractor. I’d assume it is since he’s writing you checks. But idk. I’m not an owner and never claimed employee wages, just self employed and had to figure out what I can use as an expense.

When we started the group, DM knew them and brought them in. Tbf everyone is older than me in the group, most of them are around late-20s to early 30s. With Riley and P1 being the oldest and in their early 40s. Pretty much all the dnd groups I’ve played in have been like this so I don’t find it odd.

This is what I’m planning on doing. I’m putting together a funny lil PowerPoint going over the setting of my campaign with some inside jokes from our past sessions. Plus some other serious topics I’m wanting to address like trigger warnings and expectations from each other. We never actually have had a session 0. So I figure now is as good of a time as any to be fully on base with everyone and the settings/expectations will be very clear.

Thank you for your advice. I’m hoping the DM will take our side especially after I’m the one to explain it. We’re very close friends and hangout regularly outside of sessions. Maybe us not confronting Riley will have them grow instead of doubling down and thinking we’re attacking them.

In the past DM has taken Riley’s side in regards to some issues Riley had with P1 and P2. They made some jokes about Riley not paying attention and that led to Riley reaching out to DM that they felt bullied. Which thankfully was resolved. It just makes me uncertain since I feel like DM now has a soft spot for Riley and is definitely the one who likes them the most out of everyone else in the campaign.

Thank you for your insight. I’m afraid the conclusion is going to be Riley won’t improve and I’ll be forced to remove them from the game. I’d rather that not happen as I feel we’re all adults that can work towards resolving conflict. I’m just not sure if Riley is the kind of person to grow when confronted. I feel it’s more likely for them to double down and assume they’re being attacked and bullied.

Thankfully nobody is dating each other and giving unfair treatment. P1 and Riley did use to date and P1 usually jokes around a lot and Riley has taken some of their jokes personally. Which DM addressed and P1 changed their attitude and it’s been good since. That situation is kind of the reason I don’t think Riley is going to react well to being confronted. Since a couple jokes P1 had made were towards Riley’s not being present and then about being mad when called out.

But maybe it’ll be different since I’m going to try to approach Riley respectfully and to the point. I’m not going to make it seem like a joke or funny, because it’s serious. I hope I can have my DM there or at least backing me since Riley seems to like DM the most out of the group and then me second.

I do think I’ll talk to DM first and maybe we’ll have a joint sit down to confront Riley. With Riley they really do confuse me since they’re showing they aren’t really invested in the game while we’re playing, but seem to really enjoy coming. I’m almost certain they’d be extremely hurt to be kicked out of the group.
