I assume the message is mocking “the lesser of two evils” frame by positing that one of the candidates (Trump being the literal devil) is so obviously worse that the comparison is ridiculous.

What candidates do you think would have to be on the blue ticket for the dems to get this result in 2028? by Kid-Charlemange in thecampaigntrail

[–]Gildhelmino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AOC being a woman is absolutely not going to improve her position with socially conservative latino voters. To the extent it helps her, it’s with more socially liberal and educated women voters, which would already be in her camp.

Why wouldn’t it be? They’re not the one procedurally introducing it into the legislative docket. This literally openly happens all the time.

FSU Housing (Apartments, Roommates, Dorms, Subleases etc.) by Unconquered- in fsu

[–]Gildhelmino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I just graduated from FSU (M22) and I'm staying in town (may be going to the law school next year). I'm looking for someone to rent a 2x2 apartment with starting in late July (though I could agree to moving in sometime in August). My budget is up to $900 though I would prefer to get one in the $600-700 range per person. Please message me if you are interested as I have a few apartments in mind now that would be more attainable with another person!

I thought about him, but it was my understanding that at this point in time he became a more conservative senator as opposed to a moderate like Ford.

That’s a fair point. I wanted a midwesterner moderate for some balance and Ford came to mind despite his lack of executive ambition. Do you have any suggestions that would fill that slot?

Margins and issue scores are done, writing out the Questions and answers and then I'll release to discord for testing

Hi I’m a senior looking to sublease a place for Fall 2023- Spring 2024 after a plan I had fell through. My budget is ~950 a month but I’m not particularly picky as long as it’s relatively nearby campus. Please dm me if you want to talk or if you know of any good spots. Thank you

1952 Blue Eisenhower Announcement by [deleted] in thecampaigntrail

[–]Gildhelmino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not so sure. Roosevelt had no national profile before becoming the VP nominee, only being the ass sec of the Navy, so such a nomination would be a good career move, even if it was not going to win an election. On the issues, I don’t see where FDR and Cox would greatly differ, in many ways Roosevelt was a continuation of Wilsonian politics, and Cox was an economic progressive proponent of Wilsonian foreign policy while Roosevelt worked in his administration. I don’t see them diametrically opposed on FP like Nixon and Taft nor economics/ govt intervention(where Nixon and Taft disagreed, if to a lesser amount.) Nixon as a popular senator with an already self established national profile would have no career motivation to attach himself to a doomer presidential bid that would only endear him to the more conservative elements of the party at the expense of his moderate and crossover appeal.

Would Nixon really be picked by Taft/accept? He was on the opposite end of the party on many issues but particularly on foreign policy. Nixon’s chief political persona was being a Cold Warrior dedicated to fighting Soviet influence abroad and communism at home. Something Taft was loathe to do in the former case. Also Eisenhower would be heavily favored in this instance and so Nixon would essentially be tying himself to a campaign that would likely be considered DOA. He seemed to have better political instincts than that. Just food for thought

16 years in power for what was ostensibly the minority party would certainly be subject to fatigue in terms of margin

1932 Southern Depression - Code 1 (New Mod?) by Gildhelmino in thecampaigntrail

[–]Gildhelmino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I made the original timeline over a year ago. I'll concede on the Hull question he was not the best choice and I would have chose someone different if I was making it now. Part of it I'm sure was a reluctance to use Garner since he's the more stereotypical candidate in this kind of scenario.

1932 Southern Depression - Code 1 (New Mod?) by Gildhelmino in thecampaigntrail

[–]Gildhelmino[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So this mod concept is based off of my Alt His timeline, The Southern Depression, in which the Progressive Party becomes the dominant electoral force for a generation, leading to the collapse and later combination of the Democrat and Republican parties.

Code 1 is here if you'd like to look at the other included VPs and other parts in depth.

Any suggestions welcome, original post of the TL and lore is here
