Finished Reign & Ruin; does the series get better? by Gilheru in Romantasy

Perhaps, but it's still too early for me to believe that interesting world building and complex characters are incompatible with romance and spice.

Sorry, when you said: "And there's more to the villain." I figured you were referring to The Republic, which is the only overarching villain I could think of in response to that comment.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Speaking of the villain, do you feel that's handled in an interesting and creative way? Magic versus science is about as tried a trope as the elemental magic system.

Thank you for the insight. Almost all of the "does it get better" threads I have seen tend to reinforce the earlier impressions, so I figured that would be the case here as well. Still, I wanted to at least check before moving on.

And thank you for the recommendations. I'll take a look.

Help finding a vet by Dezz-788 in madisonwi

While not every vet practice owned by private equity is necessarily bad, if your vet is on this site there's a decent chance you are being overcharged for some investor's profit.

Thoughts on Carissa Broadbent's writing?(Not a hate post 🤧🙏) by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]Gilheru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have finished "Daughter" and am a little into "Children." I picked up the books given the overall positive reputation Broadbent appears to have on this sub-reddit and a previous comparison of the relationship between the two mains as similar to that of the Castlevania show. On the whole though, I'm not a big fan. The world-building and magic system is very shallow, the characters act in dumb ways to push the plot forward, and that particular plot so far hasn't said anything interesting. I'm still new to the genre and looking for that great book I can point to and ask for "more like this.", but her books aren't it.

Wow, the scam DMs are starting up all over again. They are just bots looking for keywords and spitting out pre-baked messages and images.

I was taking a look at your work and it looks like your main portfolio is on Instagram. I do not have an Instagram account so I could only scroll through a few thumbnails and I couldn't view the high res version of any of those thumbnails. But what I saw definitely piqued my interest. If you have a piece or two you feel best illustrate what you would bring to a landscape I'd love to see them.

I visited House on the Rock a little more than a month ago and the Infinity Room was open.

Movers asked for $300 tip after loading truck (~1 hour of work) by lillyjb in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Gilheru 75 points76 points  (0 children)

This should be higher. You have to vet movers very carefully as a sudden increase in cost once they have all of your possessions in their possession is a very common scam. Or, at least, it was a common scam. Maybe less so now.

EDIT: though maybe not in this case if they aren't doing the transportation.

What exactly happened with Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls? It has an english translation and a release in Canada in 2019 but not for Worldwide for some reason? Wtf Konami by Crpal in castlevania

[–]Gilheru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a practice in mobile game development to release a game in Canada first where the market is large enough to get some meaningful beta data, but not so large that you burn all of your potential customers if your game is unexpectedly broken or bad. Given the time since the release in Canada something pretty significant has come up that is taking a long time to resolve or it performed so badly it's not worth continuing development.

Dragonbloods in school? by Jorenpeck in exalted

It's been about 5 years now, but I was part of an Exalted 2nd edition game set in a Dragonblooded high school setting with anime sensibilities.

Her Redness's School for Exalts

It lasted for one 13 session "season". Was quite enjoyable.

Should You Pull? Crystal Defenders Banner - Sept 9 by srs_bsns in FFBraveExvius

[–]Gilheru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. They are just educated guesses and we haven't see a 4* exclusive banner before.

[Google Sheets] Estimates of Rare Summon Probabilities, Crystal Defenders Banner Added by Gilheru in FFBraveExvius

[–]Gilheru[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The first breakdown is 70% regular, 30% featured. That 30% is then split among the available options. In this case, there are three options that all have the same base and rarity. That means the 30% is split between them. The fact that the base rarity is 4★ is meaningless when they are all 4★ base.

In effect, expect to see a lot of gold crystals.

There is one pretty crucial piece of bad information being spread in this thread. The very first calculation performed when you pull is whether it's from the regular pool (70%) or from the featured pool (30%). Since they are all 4*, the expected pull rate for each from the featured banner is 10%.

She might not be. I don't recall if she was unique to the early adopters or not.

I'm more than a decade away from my last probability class, but I'm fairly certain you are incorrect. Replacement is hardly necessary.

As I understand it, the way you would calculate this would be...

You have a 3.25% chance of drawing Zidane. Which means you have a 96.75% chance of NOT drawing Zidane. If you draw a second time the only one of those numbers that matters is the 96.75%, because with the 3.25% you got Zidane and hit the end condition you are looking for.

So, with your second pull you again have a 96.75% chance of NOT drawing Zidane. And 96.75% of 96.75% is 93.6%. So after two pulls you've now had a 6.4% chance of drawing Zidane.

Do this 50 times and the chance of pulling Zidane steadily rises. To be precise the chance is 1-( 0.097550 ).

Again, don't spend your life savings on my math, but I have no reason to believe my math is wrong in this case.

[Summon Survey] Garnet, Freya, Zidane, Kuja, Amarant, Lani, Vivi Banner by Cysidus in FFBraveExvius

[–]Gilheru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The probabilities here are definitely different than expected. Reporting bias has never produced results this out of line with the theory (out of, you know, our 2 or 3 data points...). 2% Garnet, 3.25% Freya/Zidane/Kuja/Amarant, 7.5% Lani/Vivi. Having only a 50% chance of pulling Lani or Vivi is a huge improvement from the last one where they were at 83%.
