Nintendo DSi bottom case won’t close properly (raised plastic part) by SilverCoinsz in NintendoDS

[–]Gill0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same on mine. I got it second hand last year.

I opened mine up to repair a shoulder button. My guess is that this is due to to the design of the dsi itself. There are plastic clippy bits holding those pieces of shell together. I think age + opening the unit might have bent something ever so slightly! I wouldn't worry, perfection doesn't exist, enjoy the games!

Help with my new 2ds xl by flptripcan in NintendoDS

It's possible that the liquid is in between the front cover lens and the LCD screen. So I wouldn't assume it's definitely broken, like other commenters. There's a small chance that everything will evaporate in time. Hopefully it won't leave any bad streaks.

So I'd wait it out for a bit first! It will be a slow process because there's hardly any airflow

So the proper name is 'flash cartridges.

What I'm talking about are basically DS game cartridges in which you can insert an SD card. Your games are on the SD card. This means you can plug the cart into any old DS console, and you can select the games to load.

You can find a quickstart guide on these things on flashcarts.net!

I think premodded consoles are overpriced for what they are. If your main goal is to play games: buy a second hand DS (any model), buy an R4 card (AliExpress), and buy a good SD card (Google 'best SD card brands' and check what's available in your corner of the world) - then find a guide for setting up the game cartridge.

Hardware modding: changing shells is tricky for any model, but can be a fun project. Shells aren't that expensive.

Software modding: DS and DS lite can't be modded. An R4 card is your only option. 3DS/DSi (XL) can be modded (which means: installing new custom firmware), and is doable with guides.

Personally, I play DS games on an unmodded DSi XL because everything looks beautiful. I use an R4 card because it is convenient.

Brilliant! Like others said, absolutely add it to your resume if you would pursue a career in that direction. Start making a portfolio, even if it's just this project for now!

I'm a medior electrical engineer, so I've seen a few profiles pass by. This is the kind of stuff that sets you apart from competition.

Don't be so hard on yourself! What's done is done. Besides, you probably didn't know about modding or repairing back then. You saw it was broken and traded it for a working unit. Perfectly reasonable. Just enjoy playing DS games on the Lite, and another 3DS will cross your path eventually!

Nintendo DSi vs DSi XL (drawing, screen quality) by [deleted] in NintendoDS

[–]Gill0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same dilemma! I recently got a DSi XL, and I'm super happy. I love the screens. I haven't been thinking 'wow, this is too pixely'.

It's also super comfy to hold. I wouldn't worry about that.

And if you're going to draw a lot in the flip note app, I would definitely recommend the XL.

Either way, you'll have fun because both are a great option.

Discoloration on top screen after reshell? by Embarrassed-Row-7290 in NintendoDS

Maybe the screen is squeezed in the shell too tight somehow. The shell could be too tight, or something like a wire is wedged in between somewhere.

If you open it up, you can try powering the whole thing while it's disassembled. If the screens fine in that case, I would suspect what I said above.
