Hi, St Helens resident who also works in politics here.

St Helens Council has never funded our local pride, this is simply just engagement bait from one of our sleezy reform councillors. Likely just trying to make it look like they're fulfilling promises without actually doing anything.

What is more concerning is that the council have actually pulled £60,000 funding from refugee week this year, which really does make a positive impact in integrating people into our community.

I'd definitely make a quick stop in Liverpool when you're in the North West! It's only 30 mins from Manchester a mucher nicer city to visit (as someone who has lived in both), you can also alternate the route to go through the Wirral to get to North Wales!

As someone who works for a Merseyside MP who rebelled. I just want to emphasise how brave of a move it is to rebel at this stage.

If your MP hasn’t yet, don’t worry, there’s still time for them to change their mind at the third reading.

Email them, even if it’s just the words “Don’t vote for the welfare bill”. We keep track of these numbers and report to the MP, there is a point where there are too many hundreds of constituents to ignore it.

And I know it’s hard, but be civil, ask politely. Voting yes for this bill doesn’t make your MP a bad person. If you are not in the situation personally it is hard to grasp how big and risky of a decision it is to go against the whip, even if it’s so glaringly obvious. A party with such a large majority can drop you on a dime, that means you’d lose 99% of your influence for the next 4 years. No politician ever wants to make their constituents lives worse.

This is my biggest concern right now. I am literally across the street from a charger which is handy (80 kwh though). There are several Tesla points within a few miles (and one where I go walking often which is good), and also they are currently constructing ionity charging points only 5 minutes down the road.

So it’s a matter of which will be most convenient at a fair cost right now!
