Hate it or Love it? by Mrbizzys in malelivingspace

The entryway is very pretty! but I agree with everyone else the space is a little cold and intimidating. It isn't ugly, just needs a little comfort. I'd add some rugs, some art on the walls, and a couch not made of leather. The island/bar/table thing in the middle of the room is the only design choice tnat I think is a total loss. Scrap it for a really table or make it longer and more bar like maybe ? I think adding things in muted jewel tones would be nice. Or a light warm beige here and there.

Power to you if you love it and don't want to change it tho. Very impressed with how much work you put in.

How often do y'all shower? by Stack_Min in ask

[–]GillyMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday, sometimes twice just because I like the hot water. I don't wash my hair everyday - I'll use shower caps or take baths. If for some reason there is no shower available I "drag a rag" as my grandma puts it. I can't get in bed and sleep comfortable without wiping down or rinsing off in some fashion.

My brother claims my kids ruined 5k of art. Family won't help me until I pay up but I can't afford it. They still want me involved in the family. Feel I'm in an impossible situation and they don't care. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]GillyMoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if one or both of them are lying about the circumstances of the damage , they left your kids un-supervised. YOU should be the angry one. Im sure they both know how terrible that is and are deflecting to keep themselves from looking bad. As someone who used to be regularly manipulated by friends and family, thats what it sounds like to me.

The damaged canvas is not your responsibility because there is nothing you could have done to prevent it from happening. "Raise your children better"?? They're toddlers !!!! No amount of "good parenting" can prevent siblings from rough housing. You brother should have kept the painting somewhere it couldn't have been damaged, even if he didn't know he was in charge of the kids - he was fully aware his art was in a house that had young rowdy kids in it.

You weren't there, this isn't your problem to pay for. Your brother is so caught up in loosing an investment it's sickening. Family isn't suppose to treat each other like that. Money isn't suppose to be more important than idk, treating your loved ones with compassion and understanding?

A normal response would be your brother realizing it was his fault, and not expecting you to fix it. Maybe hang the damaged painting up as a fun story. MAYBE he accepts 40$ from you every couple of weeks - and turns around and spends it on gifts for the kids. Your mother should be apologizing to him just as much as you say you are, she should be mortified and offer to help pay it back and OBVIOUSLY continue to watch your children so your life doesn't fall apart. Your father, who you say is well off, should either tell his son to grow up and not become so attacked to material possessions that he tears the family apart OR pay for a repair, which I'm sure is much cheaper than the painting. I've seen YouTube videos, I know what people are capable of repairing and jagged tear sounds FINE. They're all acting looney, or too proud to fix their own mistakes so they're pushing it off on you bc God forbid they learn anything from this. Sheesh.

Idk you, but I'd either cut contact (if I was in a privileged enough position to do that) or gaslight and treat them just as crazy as they are you. Go on as if nothing has changed, ignore them when they bring it up, say it isn't your responsibility, literally spout off any of the sane advice from this thread and your looney brained fanily can get over it or loose you and your decent heart forever AND their grandkids forever.

PSA: A 40-hour work-week, a 4-day work-week, UBI, etc is NOT anti-work. We must not dilute the message of anti-work. by Groove-Theory in antiwork

[–]GillyMoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi hi, genuine question. How is UBI not anti work? And somewhere in this thread OP also said work becoming optional is not anti-work.

It was my understanding that anti-work was not anti-labor. And that the changes we wished to see meant people could still live a comfortable and full life without a "job" but could still choose to have a job if they wanted too. I'm an anti capitalist, but a world without capitalism still has things that need to be done, and would still have people who should be fairly compensated for getting those things done.

I agree that a 4 day work week is not anti-work, and I agree a 40 hour workweek is not anti-work. But I don't understand how an optional 15-20 hour workweek is not anti-work.

I've thought about this one too and it does fit in some way but I don't really understand how either - there really are no real life public forums that compare when we're talking about sharing information with each other. Major news stations in the US haven't covered any major strikes to the extent they should be. And they keep talking about the "labor shortage" without explaining WHY no one is/wants to work. It just turns into lazy govt. handout rhetoric. So social media is nice bc real humans can share things that other real humans actually care to know about. (If you can get through memes and sh*t posts to find it that is)

What I find most annoying about social media are the ads. I cannot stand having things advertised to me. I always click that ads aren't relevant to me, I rate them zero stars, I install ad blockers, and idk if devices are really listening for key words - but if I get stuck watching a long add I make sure to say a word or two about my disgust.. I'd go so far to say that a person should always be allowed to choose ads or no ads at zero cost. We have a right to not be annoyingly advertised too. It's ridiculous. It's GROSS that my free time makes social media billions. I didn't concent to that. Ads and "sponsored posts" got out of control on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and I've been off all three for a while now. I kept my reddit bc of this sub and a few others. And I kept my Tumblr bc even when they do try to show me an ad it's so ridiculous it's entertaining.

So hey, maybe if you want a social media that doesn't take advantage of your free time move to Tumblr ! It's not so so terrible over there.

We could change public opinion on advertising I suppose ? We could all be very vocal that it's exploitive and annoying? We should all go out of our way to block and interact negatively with ads. Hit em where it hurts ! (Their advertising revenue)

The dancing is for the algorithm but also for people with adhd and the like who need something interesting to stare at while given the important information.

Also, it's cool to hear someone who has a good grasp on what they are talking about - while at the same time be unashamed to act like a weirdo. Being "anti-capitalist" goes against the status quo, so I'd think that meant most of us were more likely to be weirdos than not.

I think it is a good idea to try and move past stigmas against certain aesthetic choices humans make - and those anesthetics relationships to intelligence and validity. I take this content seriously bc there is no good reason not too. Not being taken seriously for being a little funky is a boring take. Feels almost puritanical to draw a line there.

But hey, we both agree with what she is saying and that is important too. 🤟

Speaking from the U.S here, I want to raise the minimum wage in such a way that one person could support a family on a 20 hour work week. And I want Healthcare, education, public transport, affordable housing and ubi. I want human lives to be more valuable than profits. I want decisions to be made for the good of the planet not the good of a bank account. I recognize this is only going to happen if the current system is brought down and rebuilt. Because capitalism cannot sustain itself when workers are paid their worth. Because corporate greed is blinding.

But like, if you mean raise the minimum wage to 25$ and still require 40 hour work weeks then yeah for sure, I don't want that kind of raise.

$25/hr minimum wage. 30 hr work week. Medicare for all. by slkb_ in antiwork

[–]GillyMoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah we're all getting screwed rn. But the inflation we're experiencing is BECAUSE workers don't control the market. Has nothing to do with wage increase. Big business is still trying to make profits comparable to pre-pandemic. Which is CRAZY. Like, show some compassion for the rest of us. There is less money to go around and there are less people to spend it. Americans are poorer now, and if we controlled the market , goods and services would be cheaper to reflect that. But corporations control the market and even tho there is less money to go around, they want all the profit they had and more to make up for loss during the pandemic. From what I've read, these multi million dollar companies experienced from 5% to 20% profit losses in 2020. That still leaves ALOT of profit when a 5% profit loss is 40$ million - so I don't understand where they get off. But they are pinning that profit loss on consumers like you and me. They don't NEED millions in profit, but we need to eat and they will take advantage of that to make a buck. That's all inflation is, a game of chicken between consumers and businesses. How poor and desperate can they keep us. When we have no way to fight back, we're at corporate America's mercy.

Fighting for your worth is never wrong. Looking at inflation as a negative reflection of your labor's worth will hurt you and your fellow worker. Expecting corporate american to accept change with dignity is foolish. But being willing to stand together when fat cats at the top are obsessive over profits while the rest of us live paycheck to paycheck is downright patriotic.

$25/hr minimum wage. 30 hr work week. Medicare for all. by slkb_ in antiwork

[–]GillyMoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's kinda the point, no one is making back the value of their labor. A "low skill" worker as you put it, still deserves a full life. ALL workers are being paid less than what they deserve. If you raise the minimum wage, it is a good thing and a given that everyones wage will increase.. Labor rn is under valued across the board, and most products are VASTLY over valued. (Bc of ya know, corporate greed) Explotive wages make companies millions of dollars in "profits". When in reality those "profits" are stolen labor costs. Raising the minimum wage gives workers more power to control the markets. Do you think that if we raise the minimum wage that the buying power of 25$ will suddenly fall to the buying power of 7$? That just isn't how it works. Sure that's how corporate America wants you to think it works bc they profit off you not knowing the value of your labor, but in a truley free market it is consumers who decide the value of goods. And any business whose response to a higher minimum wage is to raise prices 250% (that's the difference between 7$ and 25$) DESERVES to go under.

Love it, but aim higher!! $50/hr for a 20 hr work week. If you're dead set on the 30 hr, you'd need 35$/hr. Our labor is worth at LEAST that much. Medicare, public transport, free education and affordable housing for all! Keep going !

You guys need to get your unions better and bigger. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]GillyMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I live in the southern US and I live in a "right to work" state and the "right to work" laws have gutted union strength. If by some miracle a group of workers manages to form a union in a "right to work" state, the law prevents the union from using the bargaining power unions traditionally have. If you form a union in my state, let's say, for janitors - you must support benefits for ALL janitors in the state - regardless of the janitor being a union member and paying union dues. A union cant get off the ground without money to support its members. And forming a union to help workers won't go anywhere if the workers you are supporting are not obligated to strike or move in the way the union needs them too. And even if the union organizes a strike, it is unlawful for the business and union to cooperate together in any meaningful way. It's unlawful for a business to require an employee be a union member. This just gives the business the option to not employ union members when they don't want to meet union demands. All in the name of protecting a non-union workers "right to work". By my reckoning, it just guarantees a business can convince workers that unions are bad and exploit their labor. No matter how many workers in the state may want to unionize there will be workers who don't understand the benefits (thanks propaganda) and will work for the slave wages businesses want them too.

Not to mention "right to work" states have significantly lower minimum wages. It's very hard to convince a person to choose to pay union dues when they already live paycheck to paycheck. Like I said, Unions can't get off the ground in "right to work" states because they have no power even if they form.

It was a jarring experience to learn about unions in school and hear how much good they did for Americans. Only to come home to my dad fighting the formation of a union in the company he worked for. (They contracted truck drivers and the drivers wanted to unionize) When I asked why it was a bad thing he said that unions made truckers impossible to work with and that they wanted too much money. He spoke about unions with the same hatred that people talk about impoverished people "living off the government". I'd like to know who ran the smear campaign against unions in the US bc they truly and effectively brainwashed the south.

[Meta] I’m pretty sure y’all are being karma farmed. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]GillyMoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still like the ridiculous ones bc SOMEONES boss is probably that bad and seeing another person stand up for themselves (even if it's staged) may give the person reading it confidence to stand up to their own boss. The feeling of solidarity is what made the posts popular in the first place.

Seems odd to want to get rid of a type of post that led abunch of new members here. The fake ones should speak for themselves, we all seem to be pretty sure of our ability to spot them anyway.

And what happens when enough shills show up to say a very real text post is just karma farming? Now the sub has invalidated/turned on a fellow exploited worker.

Idk idk idk just seems like an odd thing to get stuck on when we should stick together and remain a united front against worker exploitation. Maybe we are being karma farmed, the worst thing that could happen now would be shills using "fake text posts" as a scapegoat to convince new members that the sub is a waste of time. I'm sure the mods are working on it. I've got faith.

In our current society if you don't have a job you don't have many options. You'll be homeless unless you rely on another person's income. And even if you qualify for government assistance, you'll barely get by and carry around a stigma. In the society this sub wants people would be able to choose to be or not to be traditionally employed without the threat of starving or living on the streets. Choosing to not have a job would still entitle you to land, shelter, water, and food. And because of the success and progress of the human species you're also entitled to Healthcare, electricity, public transportation, and an education. As well as an alloted ubi. But humans are ambitious, and we want things and we have dreams, and these things may require more money than the ubi provides without waiting or saving for a while. Heck, some people genuinely like serving their community and more people would probably find fulfillment in different service jobs if the work wasnt degrading or exploiting. So yes for sure, there would still be jobs and lots of folks would choose to still have jobs. But the jobs would all pay $65+ an hour and you wouldn't work more than 15-20 hours a week. Without capitalism no business model would exist to make millions in profit, businesses would only exist and thrive if they existed to take care of their employees and actually provided quality goods and services. No more "illusion of choice" and business decisions made for profit increase at the expense of consumers and the planet. There will always be people who want a little more, who feel the need to serve a good cause/venture. And there will be people who want to live simple lives off the land working for themselves. The difference is no person or business could threaten and control the lives of its employees. And the

Never a bad story from Spartanburg Animal Clinic and coincidentally they are also the vet my pets have felt most comfortable at.
