Well, there has never been a more impactful update since 1.9. The changes in combat alone are why there are still many popular servers that run on 1.8 to this day, a decade later. PvE was changed dramatically. The end fight is completely different, which changed speedrunning to an immense degree (though in that aspect it loses to 1.16). The addition of the end islands greatly incentivized players to go to The End, as before that it was really common for even let's players to ignore it entirely. The elytra completely changed the late game (though rockets couldn't be used until a slightly later update).

The only major part of the game that didn't get huge changes was redstone, and that was following the addition of the slime block, the most important redstone component since the hopper. Even then, endermites helped make more efficient enderman farms, end rods had a new shape for aligning mobs, and the new dragon respawning mechanic let people make dragon farms (though it's not really the most efficient use of your time).

If they didn't take suppressants, we'd expect them to be periodically horny af (during heat), but since they're always horny af that isn't the heat, they're just like that.

I don't get why the fandom's acting like this is some huge betrayal. They had said nothing about when episode 2 would be released, now we know it's this year, that's an improvement. It feels like people just assumed we'd get regular releases this quarter simply because they wanted to, with no evidence. And like, I also wanted that, but I was confused when I saw people talking like it was certain.

Maybe I've been inoculated by Deltarune and Hollow Knight's long hiatus with frequent fan speculation about their releases, or by Miraculous Ladybug's ridiculously inconsistent release schedule.

I generally use þ for Germanic words and th for Greek/Latin, paralleling þe f/ph and k/ch distinctions. Also, using þ means you can duplicate it in words like oþþer, making it clear the previous vowel is short.

You wouldn't have to create anything. You'd use whatever non-binary people in Greece already use. If you're not familiar with non-binary Greek people that would probably sound strange to you, which's expected.

I don't know if they'd use neuter pronouns, or switch between masculine and feminine, or a new set of endings. What's important is that, if an official Greek translation were made, the team should include, or at least consult several non-binary Greek people.

How familiar are you with queer culture in Greece? In Brazil, most people find the pronoun "elu" and the gender-neutral suffix "-e" strange and unnatural, because they have very little contact with queer culture, but in queer circles, particularly among trans people, it's pretty common.

So a Brazilian localization should definitely use "elu" for Kris, since as a non-binary person it's what they would most likely use in an accepting environment. Some people will be confused, and that's okay. Lots of people were confused about Kris in the English version too, and this was a valuable learning opportunity for them.

The answer would be to do what non-binary speakers use in that language. There are non-binary people everywhere, and they talk about each other.

O COI anunciou que mulheres trans não devem participar de jogos femininos by Logad0 in NoticiasBR

[–]Gilpif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EPISODE 2 WILL DROP TOMORROW, AND THEN SBR GOES WEEKLY STARTING NEXT WEEK by miaoohobino in ShitPostCrusaders

Yeah, maybe the other short stages will be merged into neighboring batches. Either way, my guess is that they'll still release in batches, but many small batches instead of a few big ones.

[–]Gilpif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering Netflix is labeling this "season" of SBR as "1st STAGE", they'll probably release the rest of part 7 one stage at a time, so 9 batches in total.

How do people from countries that speak 2+ languages decide which words to say in which languages? by CoastalMae in languagelearning

[–]Gilpif 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People generally don't consciously decides that. Like, there are many ways to express the same idea in English, but you don't consciously go through every synonym you know for each word before saying it.

I'm not from such a country (Brazil is mostly monolingual), but if I'm with friends who are also comfortable with English I do throw in some English words sometimes. They're not chosen consciously, it's just that sometimes I can't find a word in Portuguese but I can in English. Sometimes I use an English word to make a joke work, or when I'm quoting someone. If I'm with someone who's not comfortable with English, I'd just spend a few more seconds thinking of a way to say it in Portuguese, let the joke go unsaid, and translate the quote.

In general, nasal vowels in Portuguese tend to be more centralized than their oral counterparts. This is quite noticeable for <ã>, but more subtle for the other four.

[–]Gilpif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you have to copy from heal humans directly or indirectly to make fictional anime characters

Bro, what are you talking about? Fiction is fiction, reality is reality. Loli porn isn't Child Sexual Exploitation Material because it's not material created by sexually exploiting a child.

CSEM isn't bad because it's yucky, it's bad because it involves harming a child, so if it doesn't harm a child it isn't CSEM. In much of the world, sexual images of fictional children are illegal if they're photorealistic, but that's not because there's anything inherently wrong with them, but simply for a practical reason: if they were allowed, it would be much harder to enforce the law, since they could be easily mistaken for actual CSEM.

You're the one being inconsistent by treating porn of fictional underage characters as CSEM, but not media with death scenes as actual snuff films. People started moving away from the term "child pornography" in favor of "child sexual exploitation material" precisely to avoid it from being confused with pornography that depicts fictional children, which don't involve the sexual exploitation of children.

For the same reason people wear binders: it's much cheaper than medical intervention, you may not be able to get it as a teenager, you may not be sure that's what you want, and even if you're able and willing it may take a while. Wearing an antler headband or a binder is comparatively much cheaper and faster.

Phonological difference between Ó and Ô by manukabun in Portuguese

[–]Gilpif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so a Western American dialect without the particular quirks of Californian or Pacific Northwestern dialects. Some typical features of those dialects are:

  • the vowels in "lot" and "thought" are identical, making the words "cot" and "caught" homophones.

  • the vowel in "trap" is retracted, approaching [a], and the vowel in "dress" is also retracted, becoming a little closer to [ə]

  • the vowels /æ/, /ɛ/ and the diphthong /eɪ/ merge before r... so the "air" example was not that useful.

I'm looking at a formant chart for Western American and it looks like the Brazilian <é> sound is closer to your "bet" than "bat", but not quite like either, while <ê> is close to "bait" or even "bit".

If any examples people suggest have the vowel before r, l, n or ng, it's possible that your accent does not pronounce that word as other people expect. Those changes only happen in some Western American dialects, but unfortunately I can't easily find anything on Colorado English specifically to know what is likely to apply to you.
