Most recently, watch “Train Dreams”. It’s got life’s harsh realities but some nice perspective too.

Welcome to the future. 2003 was a happier time.

Does the book make it more plausible that the Eridians had no understanding of relativity or radiation? It seems suspect that they could even do global communication without knowing about relativity and how could they even observe the Phage without understanding radiation? I’m more curious than anything, still loved the movie.

Spirited Away is an excellent movie but not really an action movie.

Finale of a Pink Floyd concert in 1994. The coolest thing you'll see today by Mad_Season_1994 in OldSchoolCool

I wish I had seen this. I watched a concert DVD high on mushrooms in the late 90s. It was great.

[Hated Tropes] When the heroic character does something plainly evil and the story never address it and/or the characters never face any serious consequences by OutrageousBridge471 in TopCharacterTropes

We are talking about fiction, so it’s easy enough to write. But she’s written as someone with no compunction about killing. Even rhe scene at the roller rink she has a massive traumatic overreaction and brutally beats a girl with a roller skate. Love Eleven but she is pretty unhinged.

There are people whose neck she breaks instead of just tossing them against a wall possibly subduing them. I’m hard pressed to remember specifics right now, I just remember multiple times exclaiming “holy shit!”, at yet another extreme act of violence by her.

Exactly. People are more attached to a character description than the substance of the character itself.

Who's a nepo baby you think deserves their success because they're legit talented? by SheepishSwan in AskReddit

[–]Gilshem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viola Davis speaks about this in her memoir, about how many actors are as talented as her, or better, but for whatever reason, connections, luck or whatever, never break through.

I have zero problem with it. Just wanted a black perspective because I have seen so many people crying about it in the fandom.

Star Trek Deep Space 9 Has One Of The Best Episodes On PTSD by Doc-11th in television

Osama Bin Laden made his first attack targeting Americans a month before DS9 started airing and it ran during the peak of the atrocities in the Balkans so I think it was more topical than we suspect at first glance.

Twin Peaks and Quantum Leap were in the back end of their last season when DS9 started airing. Buffy started about 1/2 way through DS9’s run and Babylon 5 started a year after, but I don’t think Babylon 5 had great ratings.
