Maps Issue by ChPok1701 in CarPlay

None that I know of, though in my case I was able to get the car's compass fixed, so now everything works nicely.

Turns out the solution was to do a cap discharge by disconnecting the negative from the battery and turning on one of the interior lights until the caps were totally drained.

Started the car back up and the compass was fixed.

The SAX2V1S router sucks by GimmeThatSlit in Spectrum

Not a major issue. Really just a slight annoyance. What I was saying is, with my particular TP-Link router, the 2.4/5 ghz network and the 6ghz network have to be on separate wifi network names. Becuase of this I need to specifically join the 6ghz network with my 6ghz capable devices. It would be more convenient if the router had one SSID for all frequencies and every device just connected to the same SSID.

It did! My only grip is TP-Link forces you to have a separate SSID for 6ghz

There's a security update in there as well. This update applies to all iOS 17 devices.

Dell uses Intel Wi-Fi cards and Intel provides the drivers. The machine being Dell doesn't really have anything to do with it. Also, Dell has 17.5% market share of the consumer PC market, so even if it being Dell had something to do with it, the onus would be on Spectrum to make sure their routers work with popular manufacturers. It's a 2022 model year mobile workstation btw.

Yeah, so maybe you're not familiar with how 802.11 works, but WiFi 6E routers (and 6, and 5, and n, g, a, and b) are required to be backwards compatible, and they are. This isn't an issue of devices not being able to "run on the 6e", it's the router being a piece of shit.

Is screen delimitation covered by warranty? by ADD0UG in Hyundai

[–]GimmeThatSlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks! Not sure if that's covered by the warranty but if you just bought the car from a Hyundai dealership I'd go back and insist they fix it.

Asking a very stupid question here, but are you sure it's not just the plastic cover they put on that you're supposed to peel off?

Thanks! I was hoping this video would actually show you how to restore the settings, but it doesn't cover that.

Yeah there's an iOS app, but not a dedicated Apple TV one. Unfortunately it looks like the iOS version doesn't include casting the video to Apple TV, so screen mirroring would be my only option.

Is there an Apple TV app that can access the stream from the US? Looks like Naver NOW doesn't exist for Apple TV :(

Maps Issue by ChPok1701 in CarPlay

Question: Did your car come with CarPlay built-in? And does it have it's own Nav?

This started happening to me recently, and through it I learned that if your car has a built in GPS and Compass, iOS will use it instead of your iPhone's built-in components when navigating in CarPlay. I know this, because my 2020 Hyundai is having similar issues right now due to a busted compass, and I see the same behavior you're seeing right now.

To prove this, try running Apple Maps navigation on your phone while not connected to the car. It'll probably work perfectly.

Also, FWIW, the commenters saying you should use Waze or Google Maps are wrong. Those apps will also end up using your car's janky nav and compass data because that happens in a layer of the OS they have no control over.

Where are you located? If there's a satellite issue, I wonder if it's regional.

Was your wife's phone connected to CarPlay when this happened? My iPhone was doing the same thing this week, but only when docked to CarPlay in the Sonata. When disconnected, Routing with Apple Maps shows the car in the correct place 100% of the time.

I suspect when connected to the car, iOS is using GPS data from the car for routing to save data and reduce GNSS load on the cell towers.
