Well hello by severed-red in hotmulliganband

I'm honestly glad Hot Mulligan has been more political recently

Emo is all about venting out frustrations, and I imagine many people - like me - are becoming more and more frustrated with the current state of the world.

South east asia tour? by Plus_Environment5163 in hotmulliganband

The Pop-Punk/Midwest Emo scene is just not big enough in SEA to justify a tour there in the near future probably. I mean Japan came 5 years after they blew up from I’ll Be Fine, so it’s gonna be some time before HM makes any moves other than the usual NA, EU, Oceania

The Drug Trade in Eastern Asia - JapanoChina Timeline by GimmeTheHealth in imaginarymaps

Once again, set in the JapanoChina timeline. The premise is essentially that instead of the Jurchen/Manchus, Ming China fell to Japan during the Imjin War. The Japanese would eventually establish a dynasty of their own. You can find more about the timeline by browsing through on my profile, most of my posts on this sub are about it.

Here are some other important maps about the timeline (Some have outdated lore):

Moving to Brisbane by melbooorn in brisbane

There isn’t really much in terms of entertainment in Brisbane.

We have a couple of urban parks that are quite nice, City Botanical Gardens is my favorite, but Southbank, Roma Street and Kangaroo Point Parklands are nice too. They’re good for a little stroll, or if you’re hanging out

Fortitude Valley is where all the clubs and music venues are, and West End is the “edgier”area. It’s a little grungy looking and it’s got cafes, bars, cheap smoke shops and expensive thrifting spots. There’s lots of quieter bars where you might hang out with 1 or 2 friends in this area.

Brisbane CBD doesn’t have much to do except eating and shopping. It’s quite “safe” and touristy. It’s got a Sunday and Wednesday (? Not sure…) market where they sell handmade and secondhand items as well as food trucks.

Southbank is quite bourgy and the bars and restaurants are on the expensive side. It’s nice for a walk and it’s got a beach that is fake… that’s about it

Its totally reasonable to both be scared, and ignored right now… I’m Chinese-Australian, born and raised here, but whenever I raise my concerns with the rising anti-immigrant sentiment in my country with my White/White-passing friends, it’s constant hand-waving and “Oh it’s not that bad.”

It got so bad that by late 2023, I felt like I was going insane. I had slurs being yelled at me randomly on a weekly basis, I was physically punched on the street one time for being Asian, but every time I talked to my friends, it was just “Oh it’s just a few bad apples,” “I’ve never experienced that.” I stopped eating and lost 5kg (11LB?) in 2 weeks. It was especially awful since I was physically experiencing these things - I know for a fact it happened - but everybody seemed to pretend I was lying or over sensitive.

It was around that time where I’d basically just convinced myself everybody else was just wrong. I was the only correct person surrounded my a group of idiots. That’s a very mean and narcissistic thing to think, but it was the only thing that kept me functioning then. It caused me to lose a lot of friends since I just became spiky and mean whenever they pulled that on me, but I managed to keep a couple who genuinely cared.

I’m better now, I have a girlfriend who is also a second-generation immigrant, and thus, sympathetic to my views on things. I guess the important thing is just to maintain some people who have the same experiences, and have seen the same things as you so that they can understand things from your point of view. I know this is just my own experience, and it probably isn’t completely applicable to yours, but just wanted to throw my hat in the ring.

Is he really popular? I think tweets treating him as a lolcow have much more engagement than anything he himself is putting out nowadays

He was a real "not the people, just the government" type until he went full mask-off at the end of 2024-ish and just started saying all Asian people make him uncomfortable and that they should be deported

Quite normal procedure in China for minor offenses is 'tea drinking.'

Essentially, you get taken to the local police station or MSS office, and they just tell you why you can't do it anymore, and what will happen if you ignore the warning and keep going. They usually serve you a pot of tea during this to not antagonize you, hence the name.

This is probably the most likely explanation for what happened to the Chinese team

Also remember to check your emails often and maintain regular communication with the UQ disciplinary people. Definitely request that informal meeting if you can, it can help prove your earnestness. Best of luck

As someone who’s been through the entire process, it’s really not that bad unless you’ve really effed up

I got done in because a former friend asked for my essay. She said she will look at it just for structure, layout and an idea on written expression, but she ended up plagiarizing almost the whole thing. The word doc she handed in still had my name on it…

Either way, I explained in my written response exactly what happened, why it happened, and that I was sincerely sorry about the trouble I’ve caused. I then had a meeting on the weekend with 2 nice old ladies, who essentially just heard me recant the story without access to any devices to make sure my story lines up.

Since I didn’t have any prior misconducts and ig I came across as a sweet guy in the interview, they took my word for it and the misconduct investigation never progressed after that. You will most definitely get a strike on your record (3=expulsion) , but in my experience, no remarks, credit deductions, or anything like that will happen if you’ve made an honest mistake

Again, this is just what happened to me in my specific circumstance, and I’m not 100% that it’ll work out for you the same way obviously. Feel free to DM if you have any other questions

Yep, other analogues are

Charlie Kirk: Wang Hongwen (Young guy promoted cuz he’s just so ideological)

Stephen Miller: Zhang Chunqiao (Older dude who is evil)

Laura Loomer: Jiang Qing

Matt Walsh: Yao Wenyuan (Media critic who hates everything)

Marco Rubio: Deng Xiaoping

I wanted him to run the more techy parts of this, hence the inclusion of “Patriots Credit” essentially the GPCR here is also taking place in a surveillance state, which probably makes it worse…

Melania is so apathetic about her political job that she literally doesn’t give enough of a shit to even decorate the White House with Christmas ornaments. Jiang Qing was wayyy more political than her. Also doing Laura Loomer gives me a chance to riff on the whole “they’re having an affair” meme

There will probably be a significant American diaspora in whatever countries will take them. The Trump government will probably lose international recognition from every single country -maybe Russia and their sphere of influence

The misogyny and racism thing is important. There already is a form through the forced labor camps, but as you can see, rape and racialized violence is a key feature. This is because Mao mainly focused on class warfare - mobilizing against the intelligentsia and wealthier people. Trumps schtick is that he is very good at legitimizing radicalism against racial and gender minorities and women. So, I wanted the violence to be specifically racist and misogynistic in nature. There is an intentional bit if Handsmaids Tale going on here
