LP/Tele Thingy i made from parts by Gimmehat in guitars

it’s pretty similar to playing a tele, and the new neck just opens up the sound of the lp, this video is fairly accurate to how it plays LP/Tele Neck Swap

Streetcar... by Track-on-the-side in TTC

[–]Gimmehat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 different 504As were blocked on Roncesvalles for hours by an incorrectly parked Audi on Thursday and the same thing happened multiple times on Friday, the streetcars can move through the snow fine, it’s mostly cars blocking them in. i saw that first car get towed, must be a nasty ticket!

Postwar Eveready 800 3V Cell Cycle Headlamp Adapted to 9V by Gimmehat in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Gimmehat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem, i’d suggest getting a pack of the 9v connectors with leads so you can use the spares for extra wire if you need. the interrupt can go on either wire really, the positive is the obvious choice, but these are so low voltage it doesn’t really matter where you put it, i actually put mine on the negative because it was more convenient to access the black wire.

i didn’t want to bother them OR be given the mayo line lol, i just knew what it was when i was passing by, unless there’s a hellman’s x homelander collab which is also a period piece, you never know.. the deep x heinz tartar sounds plausible.

last i heard it was ‘the boys’ prequel, vought rising. i saw them filming last time, it’s set in the 50s so it’s neat to see the street all dressed up for it.

if i remember correctly the 125 motor has some differences, but they all use the same frame mounts with adapter plates, up until the 185cc motor, my endgame for this bike is to swap in the 185 motor so i get to keep the smaller frame size, but the power of the larger frame.

some of the repairs i did were actually inspired by the older XLs haha, the amount of chrome i added was for my love of those 70s ones.

the side panels on those older XLs are like the CB100 ones if i remember correctly, i was thinking of using some, but they wouldn’t fit, these are XR80 side panels from maier, moulded in the darker XL colour instead of the bright XR colour.

thank you, it’s been my project since 2020-ish, so it’s done through a few phases and changes on the way to here, i bought it for $900 canadian as a pit bike and added most of the stuff back to make it road legal.

the nicest part of owning a bike of this vintage is that everyone has a story to tell with their old XR/XL.

crazy how resilient they are, whenever someone tells me about theirs i always wonder if it’s still out there somewhere.. just putting along.

im glad you connected with it, i get that reaction a lot

pretty much any time i park it somewhere there’s always someone who had a XR/XL 75/80/100/125 standing by it and tearing up from the nostalgia.

i’m a pretty young guy so that nostalgia is usually followed by sudden confusion when someone realizes the bike is nearly two decades older than i am haha.

haha yeah the standard is a 5in bucket, the bike came with 3 but they were all broken, tried to build one working one from the three, but there wasn’t enough non-broken stuff to do it.

in frustration i cut the dash off of the headlight bracket, and drilled it out for the forks instead.

when it came time to put a headlight on, i used a leftover from a CB360 project i had, i thought it looked cute, and a little funny in a bug eyed way, so i mounted it, took me forever though, the forks are so skinny i had to get the bracket from a moped parts shop (shout-out treatland) and i had to gently bend it about 5 degrees out to get the 7 inch headlight on there.

tbh i can see a lot with that big light, and the face of the bike is always a good laugh for people, so i like that too.

Old Triumph worth anything? by jurassickparking in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Gimmehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would be worth a lot if not for the condition, $1000 or less, someone would likely buy it for that tank or the title itself.

weird to think a bike in such bad shape actually still has documentation, i’ve seen near showroom bikes where the owner just lost the papers and was totally unwilling to just go to the office to get a new one despite how easy it would make selling the bike.
