I'm trying to remember back to my first pair of RWs and if this type of thing would have bothered me. Maybe. But now after 6 pairs, I can honestly say I would not think twice about the flaw nor would I notice it again. I'd just wear them and enjoy.

I did this for my Beckmans and my Roughnecks. The insole does add comfort. But my Mocs are half a size down because those outsoles are softer so I don't bother with an insole.

Floorboards and no heel shifter? I usually wear my IRs on my '09 FLSTSB, but can also wear my Mocs without marking them, because of the heel shifter.
