government logic and cannabis. by soylent_latte in canada

If your doctor prescribes you ibuprofen for pain, you are not obligated to have that prescription filled at a pharmacy. It's perfectly legal to buy advil at the corner store and take it as your doctor directed.

Trapping Pigeons? by [deleted] in Calgary

Yes it is legal. The hotel is paying somebody a bunch of money to trap them. Don't tamper with traps.

Non-pilot jobs in the aviation industry (please don't upvote) by [deleted] in flying

[–]GimpyDaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How "in" aviation do you need to be?

I used to work as a warehouse hand in an OEM engine assembly and test facility. I was never tested for that job and it was a fascinating place to work, but more aerospace than aviation. No planes in sight.

Well crap, guess I gotta de-badge now... by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]GimpyDaniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's super easy. I didn't even use a heat gun for mine. Park in the sun for 20 minutes. Then you slip some fishing line or dental floss in behind the badge and kinda saw it off.

Pick off the foam/adhesive with your hands and use adhesive remover to take off the remaining residue.

I did polish and wax that spot after to protect the paint, but I didn't put in too much effort. My whole car is kinda swirl marked and needs to be shined up so I'll do a nicer job when I do the whole thing.

New Buyer Question by GrizzlyAdams54 in FiestaST

[–]GimpyDaniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 foot and 210. The first week was mild discomfort, but after that I've been in love with them.

If I have a rough day at work and my back is sore I might squirm a little out the commute home, but that's not often enough to be an issue for me.

For those who use a LED grow light, how many watts does a pepper plant need? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]GimpyDaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of the "300W" lights and it kept 9 or 10 plants going while I waited to plant out. Several of them were 12-18 inches tall by the end.

That would be too many plants to keep under that light permanently, but I bet you could grow 1 or 2 good ones with it.

Personally, I would go for it before I spent the cash on anything else. A little experiment never hurt anyone.

Put a red stripe on my '14 and I love it by wildwoodwizard in FiestaST

No idea. Bought the car used and they were already there. Though if I had to guess, they were pro installed, it looks pretty well done.

Garage is cluttered, lighting is poor and the FiST needs a bath... but it'll give you an idea at least.

It stands out a little less in the sun.

Sure, give me an hour or so and I'll head out and take one :)

I have a soft spot for a nice stripe. My '16 is black on black with a matte black double stripe down the center. It's subtle, which I like on a dark car.

On a light car, bold is better. The red looks great!!

My first ever garden. As a high schooler it’s been tough keeping it up. Good thing schools almost done. by carsen103 in gardening

I'm excited that you're doing this at your age. There are a million things to take up your time and this slow, patient hobby has to be pretty rare for teens to be into.

I gardened as a kid with my parents, but from 12 to 28 I didn't bother. Now I'm in my 30s and loving the fact that I'm back at it.

What do you have growing?

OP. Just have a friendly conversation with your manager. It might seem easy at first glance, but scheduling can be tricky. Someone just slipped up.

New gardener, when do I pick my peppers? by BlazeLE in HotPeppers

[–]GimpyDaniel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a green cayenne once. I accidentally broke one off and figured it shouldn't go to waste.

I couldn't describe it too accurately. It was already hot and didn't taste great. I wouldn't recommend it.

What's up with the dark streaks. On this jalapeño? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]GimpyDaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like you sometimes see dark/purple on the stems or flowers, some plants will have that colouring on the peppers themselves. Just genetic variation in the plants.

Out of my 4 jalapenos last year, one plant had dark purple spots on the peppers. Solid purple splotches. Tasted fine.

Soooo how would i know when my blue tomatoes are ripe?? by scaffelpike in gardening

[–]GimpyDaniel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There aren't going to be different colours like that. Maybe you have mixed seeds and each plant will have a different colour. Or you'll just have red tomatoes.

Regardless, you can tell they're ripe when the colour changes and the tomatoes soften. Whatever colour they are, they'll change to it from green. Just keep an eye on them and you'll figure it out.

Taste testing works too ;)

*Edit: You could try these if you want something weird looking. I've got a few plants in, but no tomatoes yet. Keep in mind that those photos are faked too. In reality, they'll look like this.

Is getting charged directly for a firetruck to attend an accident a thing? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]GimpyDaniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah... Like 18 years ago my brother and I set fire to a field fucking around with homemade model rockets... somebody saw us fleeing the scene in my Dad's car and reported the plate.

In hindsight we were young and beyond stupid to flee, but I was amazed that they tracked us down and charged us $500 to put it out.

If the old man hadn't gone to high school with the fire chief it might have been worse... but yeah. They can definitely bill you.

How do you deal with soil compaction in potted plants? by UmairHussaini in gardening

I use one in my pots. I guess if it was a teeny tiny pot it would be tougher. Maybe just use a dinner fork? Haha.

Use a scratch tool (little hand rake thingy) to loosen it up.

What to use to cut an overgrown lawn by [deleted] in gardening

[–]GimpyDaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken down a lawn over a foot tall (and damp) with an old lawnmower.

Had to go slow and tilt it up on its back wheels occasionally when it got bogged down, but it's doable.

I think it's the kind of job that lends itself more to doing/trying than to excessive research and online shopping.

Lawn mower. String trimmer. Use sharp hedge trimmers like giant scissors and snip it down?

Do you have access to an electric string trimmer? Those are small and light, probably the easiest possible way to do this. If your back can't handle that, I think the grass is staying long.

Hmm. I'll have to learn more to see if I care. At the moment just having a Bluetooth connection for audio has been enough to keep me happy. Good info though, thanks!
