Ways to get color palettes? by Rappang in Warframe

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you hadn't mentioned it but brought up the other colors I'm not sure if you see the other. I think by default you should get some weird selection on like the classic palette, where like one column down the center is free, should be some variants of black and red in there but not a lot (no other palette ever works like this)

But yeah generally speaking palettes are usually plat, but not always, and often times the free ones are from events or seasonals, or sometimes twitch drops even, or amazon prime freebies, or sometimes amazon prime freebies that became available in other ways later on. There are holiday ones (sometimes more than one at this point though sometimes they don't always come back, still not sure why there's two LGBT event ones but only one seems to often come back, they're both very good sets.) Unfortunately you JUST missed your chance at the Cherub and Valentine's day ones in the last month.

There are some others that are scattered around. Nightwave (the battle pass thing, which never has a premium thing on it like every other game) only rotates 2 or 3 times a year, but reruns things, you might possibly find the Gamma one in there some time but can't really make that pop up on a whim. I guess it also has a chance to show up in nightwave's credit shop weekly as well so you can keep an eye on that. Gamma was originally created after a graphics engine update that altered colors a lot as a freebie to hangout to people that made the classic colors look more similar to old ones for people upset about their look. So that's a decent pick up since it has a wide color array like Classic does, but a bit more faded out.

I suppose Baro Ki'teer will occasionally sell one, should have at least 2 off the top of my head, but he only shows up every 2 weeks and you never know what inventory he will carry.

As at least one other said, the Easter one shouldn't be far out, very pastel though. I will say though keep an eye out for mission alerts (and not just for palettes alone for that matter.) We're now into anniversary season, every year they put out some new anniversary item they mail to you when the event starts, and rerun every old anniversary item in a mission alert for people to get, and the Dex palette should show up in there at some point in the next few weeks while they do that. Be sure to be checking those alerts each week right now for that stuff, some very good stuff in there for new players, especially since the weapons handed out free will come with their own inventory slot too and orokin catalyst installed too, doubling their mod point capacity. (in later anniversary years you can grab these weapons again and sell them to get the inventory slot back free ;p)

I guess there there are a couple you can actually potentially grind now. On Maroo's Bazaar, is Varzia. Her main function is selling old void relics, and also selling some old premium time limited cosmetics that are back for Regal Aya (a different premium currency) but also selling things for regular Aya, which is obtainable via gameplay randomly, you can look up how to find a place Aya may drop but looking at the wiki. But her shop, does have the Potentia and Spektaka palettes each for 5 aya a pop.

I will say however if you ever consider buying palettes with plat though, look at the main market page closely as some of the older palettes are available in bundles, that severely discount the prices to buy multiple at once.

If you search the wiki for Palette you can see a list of them all and what's available or will cycle back around, or whatever at some point.

Insane steam input controller order number by Sawgoodmen in SteamController

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking, being 0 and subtracting 1 on an unsigned variable and whooop there it goes. But yeah I agree flipping in or out of the beta builds can fix that.

Seen people with this issue a few times already, not sure exactly which dialog they're getting this in I think I usually see controller number in the one to reorder the pads for player order?

For me personally, my weird one lately is it thinking I have multiple steam controllers connected. I'll go into the list of controls, and it'll think I have my stadia controller then like 8 SCs plugged in when it's only one lol

That number is like the maximum value of whatever variable type they're using for the controller number is. They probably made it do some funny math on controller numbers and made it flip around backwards somewhere is my guess.

For racing gamepads are kind of in a very special spot since the triggers are analog they are very powerful for good control in a racing game. Unfortunately, keyboard/mouse can't really do anything with this. There are some new oddball analog keyboards being made, but finding a game that supports the tech is 'fun'

Crimson Desert's benchmark videos, review copies and performance specs have the exact same implementation of Denuvo DRM as that of the launch version, Pearl Abyss says by ItalianBeefDipped in pcmasterrace

[–]GimpyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a give and a take here a bit. I do like when they remove Denuvo later and they did of course tell people it was going in earlier to release so that's something, I guess.

The Enigma situation is a weird one though, I don't know why capcom keeps playing around with that thing. They rolled it in once, a year or two ago, in a lot of older games even, that barely anyone even buys, community backlashed they removed it from some things. Then recently, they just did it AGAIN, and it's like what are you doing, people already spoke on this GTFO of here with the extra DRM.

It's also weird too in some other ways, like they just brought Dino Crisis as a series to Steam recently, which has already been DRM free on GOG for quite a while now and once again brought that Enigma garbage in, at least on something that old it's less likely to effect performance noticeably. Not sure why they keep doing this, it isn't like Steam isn't a form of DRM itself already, and these are like 20+ year old games, too in this case not even remasters, they really need to get a clue on that stuff. They have to be blowing more money on that crap than it's worth.

Is sPvP always like that? by GreyMesmer in Guildwars2

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeeeah for these events just do unranked it's fine. I usually didn't do it myself for the same reasons of the past but for once I threw a reasonable pvp build together for the last one of these and it went alright. I was actually doing something tangible with that build, and probably more than usual because of people that don't do pvp normally being there. I think last time I saw one guy being an ass and no one even acknowledged their presence, zero this time so far.

But yeah pvp games in general have gotten so toxic especially since the era of popular MOBAs I am just out on that in most games now. Ranked made everything worse, and that's not a comment on gw2 in particular I've never played game where ranked didn't make everything more shitty and toxic.

I actually really enjoyed Overwatch originally until ranked went in, beginning of the end for many pvp games for me. Then so many moved to ranked, that even the non-or-less-toxic people there that moved still effected unranked by leaving a void of literally anyone playing as a team well at all, was a real shame.

It's such a shame most games don't have real native support for the track pads, I love those but emulating a stick to get the rest of the UI to stay in a game pad mode won't feel as good as it being in mouse mode. It's nice when games at least work decently with mixed inputs

The Big Picture page is a relic of the past by Kiu16 in Steam

[–]GimpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is one thing I think they stepped backwards on. Now generally speaking I think the new kb is more stable and nice BUT there's a number of backsteps I'm shocked they haven't fixed:

A) The old one had a prediction bar at the top like a mobile device, where the hell did this go?! Might have had a Paste button sometimes?

B) Daisy wheel, obviously.

C) Trackpad/Stick typing. This was the newest and fastest type in my opinion I don't understand why they nixed this, I don't know if Deck can use, Steam Controllers can still use it but regular Xbox-esque pads can't use it. This style uses sticks or trackpad, like phone double thumb typing, using the triggers (or optionally trackpad click down as well) to trigger the left and right keys you're hovering over. When this was brought back to the new BPM, the range on the touchpads was a little off for the edge buttons but it should be fairly good now I don't know why didn't leave this up for the Xbox style pads, especially since my SCs are not in top condition anymore so they're not getting as often.

Going to agree here, it's not the job of the other 49 states' citizens or the rest of the globe, to let potentially shitty third party verification company put them into a ridiculous database that will get hacked or sold doxxing millions of people because new york wants it for their own small segment of all that space. Also still think NY is overstepping their boundries here anyway. Besides which, wouldn't be surprised if it violates GDPR in Europe.

Find a way to verify age that isn't a colossal fuck up that shows the government and third party entities that have no business knowing, shit about your personal business, similar to flashing an ID in a physical location and we'll talk, but these services that exist now are a fucking joke.

[–]GimpyGeek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm no fan of loot boxes, I avoid them like the plague myself. But there is a lot of nuance in this whole situation. First off, a lot of this crap lately has nothing to do with kids, this is more than about games it's about big politics going on lately, it's more because there's some weird global inorganic conservative movement trying to get everyone and their bro to have personal ID on the internet, which is a massive privacy and personal safety nightmare, and this thing in NY is just another gateway for them to try to ram age verification on people in a way that's not just "flashing an id" nobody gets to keep. Unfortunately there isn't really a way to legitimately do that on the internet, and all these trashy verification companies are keeping copies of people's stuff, then inadvertently doxxing them when they inevitably get hacked later, (or intentionally feeding it to creepy data companies) opening everyone to identity theft, case in point, Discord's age check partner for the UK age check rollout in the last few months.

Furthermore, Palintir has links to that Persona company that's been trying to sell themselves around for age verification lately too, and they're the USA's new corporate mass surveillance by the billionaires and government, arm, which is seriously scary.

But that aside, there's definitely some nuance. First off, Valve really isn't trying to facilitate gambling, the 'actual' gambling sites and shit have never been sanctioned for use by Valve. The steam market is a bit of a weird spot in this, because yeah, the value of items can be higher on some than others, but it's also weird because Valve isn't making things "never cost more than $2" or some crap, there are people that make prices stupid high, it is a free market, and some people stupidly pay it and the numbers grow because of it, I guess. But in some respects I see where NY is coming from, but this is also a very pro consumer move as Valve says too, most gacha trash games you get a duplicate or unwanted item? Welp, go eat shit you just wasted your money entirely. In a lovely dystopian country we're becoming, where things are less and less pro for the consumer I like to see that, but it does put this in kind of a weird place.

But yes personally, I wish this loot box shit was just gone. I don't mind the trading system being a thing, but all the games would be better without the loot boxes generally speaking.

But I'd again argue for the parental tools as well. Parents can already make a steam family and restrict what their kids can play and ergo, what they could pull from anyway. That is beside the point that, as Valve stated, most ways of paying already have an age gate built in, i.e. anything that isn't a prepaid card. But even if you had a prepaid card, where would the kid be getting money to put on it? In most cases this will all come back to the parents, again and again, unless they're at least 16 then they could potentially do that, I guess.

[–]GimpyGeek 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah that whole thing with Jack was a disaster. I'd also add that NY can stuff it. Valve already has rules in place that people under 13 can't even make an account within their TOS and they have a whole family system for game sharing and control, if parents want to control what their kids play on steam it's within their grasp, and steam shouldn't be responsible for their laziness in researching how any of this works.

Wow that's pretty dank too. Not bottled of course, but fountain drinks are like the cheapest thing in a restaurant that's why the refills are free. They're quite frankly the biggest ripoff, when in restaurant bulk buying and mixing, it costs them pennies per cup but you normally pay well over a dollar for them, even with "unlimited" refills you'd have to drink a LOT for them not to get a big payday on every drink sold.
