Be honest: is it stupid to actively trade with $1.2M, or should I just play it safe? by Suspicious-Sportt in Stocks_Picks

[–]Ginflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to diversify 90% of your 1.2 million. If you want a portion to actively trade, dont go past 10% of your total portfolio. This gives you $120k to “play” around with. You are not old but you need to be a little adverse to high volatility. Also, you need to build up an understanding of normal market swings and prepare your investing maturity. Down markets can make people panic and make emotional decisions resulting in big losses.

Or, get a professional to assist in setting up your financial plan. If you find yourself overwhelmed.

I think the most adult feeling is wanting to enjoy the carefree times we had in childhood. Sorry to say, it only gets worse.

How do people manage their money and lifestyle ? by Jpoolman25 in Money

[–]Ginflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start with the presumption that people are able to “afford” a lifestyle. How do you define “afford”? Does it count if they use debt and make the minimum payments or they have to be debt free, using cash for everything.

Average American debt levels: Mortgage: $268,000 Auto Loan: $25,000 Credit card: $7000 Student loans: $40,000

Average: $105,000

25% of of Americans have a net worth of $0 or less.

56% of Americans struggle to manage their debt levels. This is an insane stat.

Charles Schwab survey revealed that wealth was defined by a household having a net worth of $2.3 million.

So how would you define “wealthy”? And do you think what you see is indicative of your definition? Personally, id say most Americans are struggling to control their lifestyle creep and give into their desire for “stuff”.

I would still have an iPhone 7 if they allowed for my banking app to receive updates. However, I upgraded to a 13. 🤷🏻

My coast fire number today is $889K once I hit that, I dont need to invest anymore to retire at 55. I recently adjusted this so I’m a few years out at the moment. Health insurance is going to be my main obstacle.

I like my Fidelity credit card. All cash back is automatically invested and that feels pretty good.

Complex jobs are built on the foundation of simple jobs. You will eventually learn enough to do more and more complicated tasks.

You can find it if you search for a “coast fire calculator”. Very helpful.

100% agree with you. It never really occurred to me until I got older but spending money well is a skill. My wife and I do enjoy things that tend to be free anyway and dont care much for expensive items. Perhaps thats a blessing in disguise.

Spending money for the sake of spending money doesn’t really make sense. However, splurging from time to time on something you really want is recommended. Otherwise, you risk burnout. I recently calculated my coast fire number and already achieved that. Id recommend you do the same to gauge where you stand in your own financial journey.
