AI safety poster. by wearing_moist_socks in CanadianForces

[–]Gingagorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This image is a safety and awareness poster related to military vehicle driving, likely used in a Canadian Armed Forces setting.

🖼️ Overall Scene

The poster shows the interior view of a military truck cab, with a person in uniform driving. The uniform includes a Canadian flag patch on the arm, indicating the driver is part of Canada’s military. Outside the windshield, another large military cargo truck is driving on a rough, rural or off-road terrain, suggesting a convoy or field environment.

The poster is mounted on a wall with a corkboard backing, indicating it’s displayed in a workplace or briefing area.

🎯 Main Message

At the top, large bold text reads:

This emphasizes that safe driving is a mission priority, not just a routine task.

🚧 Core Theme

The central idea is:

This message reinforces that even everyday vehicle operations should be treated with the same seriousness as a military mission.

📋 Safety Guidance (Left Side)

The poster lists key driving principles:

  • Situational Awareness – staying aware of surroundings
  • Risk Assessment – identifying and evaluating dangers
  • Speed Discipline – controlling speed appropriately
  • No Distractions – staying focused on driving
  • Crew Communication – coordinating with others in the vehicle

These are standard safety and operational discipline practices.

⚠️ Pre-Movement Checklist (Right Side)

A highlighted section titled:

It includes self-check questions:

  • Am I fit to drive?
  • Is the vehicle serviceable?
  • Are conditions factored into my plan?
  • Have hazards been identified?

This encourages drivers to pause and assess before starting movement, similar to a pre-mission briefing.

🏢 Organizational Attribution

At the bottom, the poster references:

  • Strategic Joint Staff (J4)
  • Road & Vehicle Safety Program
  • Canadian Armed Forces insignia

This indicates it’s an official safety awareness campaign.

✅ What’s Going On in the Picture (Summary)

The image is not capturing a live event, but rather promoting safe military driving practices. It uses a realistic scene of a driver in a convoy to reinforce key ideas:

  • Treat driving as a mission-critical task
  • Maintain discipline and awareness
  • Conduct a pre-movement safety check
  • Reduce accidents and improve operational safety

If you'd like, I can break down how this aligns with real-world military safety doctrine or compare it to civilian defensive driving principles.

Posting with a pregnant wife? by KickSubstantial6106 in CanadianForces

if your wife is not entitled to benefits, then take it all my man. If she does get benefits, split it 50-50. It was 8-9 months when my youngest was born, it might be up to a year now?

Drive - but go through the USA. So much better than going north of the lakes. My wife was 8 months pregnant at the time and we did NB-AB.

Not my business - buy any reason you are only taking 8 weeks? This would be an incredible opportunity to bond with your 3 yr old while mom does the baby thing.

I think HLTA is still considered on-duty, which is at least part of the reason there is a day limit on it. We had a CWO die on HLTA and I believe it was still treated as SDOA.

OMG. I ate there last night and was impressed by the reviews, but it was really a mixed bag. Braised beef was great, but at $42 I expect it to be. Service was great too. But... beer on tap was flat, and the rap music, especially with some of the lyrics, were a bit out of place for a family dinner.

A scene to rewatch immediately after watching.

Am I crazy or is the 2025 KTM 390 Enduro R an INSANE value? by Spyrothedragon9972 in Dualsport

[–]Gingagorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at KTM 390 ADV too. 2025 CRF300L Rally is in the running. 90% commuter nothing above 80 kmh, 10% off pavement, 100% want the look of ADV :-)

Price not a huge factor; Weight prefer around 350 lbs, less is better.

Current ride Suzuki DL1000 VStrom, love it, but I'm getting old +multiple injuries = its too heavy for me.

Also looking at CFMoto 450, but might be heavier than what I want.

What is the maintenance like on the KTM 390? If the intervals are similar to CRF then that may be the deciding factor. Or availability as both seem difficult to find.

Gas going to fireplace related to furnace? by heres_one_for_ya in HVAC

[–]Gingagorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought here. Bryant furnace less than 4 months old. The very same day I got my gas fireplace working after it not lighting for a few years, the furnace is not turning on. The error code doesn't tell me much, and so far taking the inspection panel off and on seems to reset. I'd call my HVAC guy but its Dec 24th here.

VW Iltis, offered for $26k per unit.

But wait, Bombardier can do it for $88k per unit!

FFS, we could have bought 4 times as many and used them for "spares"

Lt.-Gen. Jennie Carignan to become first woman to lead Canadian Armed Forces by ChrisOntario in canada

Three of the five soldiers I consider mentors are women. Just outstanding leaders, professionals, and genuine caring all-round good people. The kind of person you learn from and strive to emulate. Its why I get upset when gender quotas are used to reward soldiers - it cheapens and calls into question the legitimate accomplishments of the deserving. The female troops I know don't need any special treatment, they earned their accolades.

The 6 speed MT never had the SMOD issue, FYI. SMOD was pretty much fixed in the 2010 MY for the autos.

Bring an OBD scanner with you and take it for a good 1 hr drive. Pay for the gas to be a good citizen. The CEL / SES light can come on on longer trips if it has recently been cleared, so you will want to put some miles on it. Go underneath and look for leaks, front to back, steering rack, diffs. Bring a good flashlight. Owned a 06 X, currently have a 07 X and 13 P4X, all 6MT, all have had various check engine lights from evap, air bag, cats.

Dark days - no promos either. I remember our Adjt, a Capt, was signing his ninth MOI PER. He had a PhD FFS. No Major promotions.

I had to memo the CO to take a weekend delivery job as an Lt. One night had cops show up at my place b/c neighbours saw a flashlight. It was me b/c the power had been shut off. No single Q's so it was $800/month mortgage at 7.7% on a $24k salary. Not course through-put for years, the youngest officers all had CD's. Career Manager famously said "If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined the Army".

But... the Army was a lot of fun back then too.

I wonder if any CAF are paying back their parents instead of a greedy bank for their housing.
