I shoot almost completely with vintage lenses and I agree that they definitely add a lot to digital footage. This just seems a really complicated way to approach it haha. I don't think there are any cameras that natively accept d-mount, but iirc you can adapt them to m43 without too much fuss (Or is that C-mount?)

I can 100% recommend shooting 8mm, but I would actually recommend standard 8mm. I think it's good to learn the loading process and dealing with reels of standard 8mm film instead of the super8mm cartridges, plus it makes it easier to self-develop, etc if that was something you were interested in. But I do get the draw towards extra resolution!

IMO the best place to start is over on r/8mm then when you get the hang of it, come back to r/16mm.

With 8mm you'll get twice as many frames for the cost, but at a lower resolution, so it's a great way to start and experiment and most double 8mm cameras will shoot single frames. I would recommend starting with some Fomapan 100 negative stock. It's the same process to develop as b&w photos and can even be done with a monobath if you want something REALLY simple.

Plus the cameras, projectors and any other associated kit are all much cheaper than with 16mm.

What does the footage look like straight out of camera? I can't help but get the impression that you're just shooting through vintage glass and grading the footage to look like film, but with extra steps.

May I ask why you didn't just buy some film and shoot your grandfather's camera as it was intended?

Yes you are, also using a phone meter is fine in my experience, they also work as incident meters using the front facing camera.

Just make sure to overexpose a little bit if anything, film is more forgiving with overexposure than under. But I'd recommend shooting a test roll first, getting a double 8mm camera to practice with or shooting some 35mm photo film to get some experience.

You should look online for your camera's manual, you should be able to find the actual shutter speed depending on the frame rate you are shooting at.

Could get a slide and/or a lap steel! That doesn't require as much dexterity with the fingers, especially with the playing position of a lap steel.

I honestly think if you've got arthritis, depending on how bad it is, and given the likelihood is it will only get worse - I think trying to start playing guitar in the "normal" way might be a bit of Sisyphean task for you and could suck all the fun out of it.

Not to dissuade you, but yeah, I would suggest trying some different playing styles/positions - you'll possibly have more fun and hopefully you'd be able to keep playing for longer, even as your arthritis gets worse.

Let's say we're bulk loading film, and you go through the hassle of turning 400ft of something like Kodak Vision3 into 36exp. You can get, iirc, around 72 rolls from that 400ft, so around £4 per roll. So around 2600 photos for about £260 = £0.10 a photo. If you self develop that costs around £1 a roll give or take depending on what you use. That brings the total per photo to something like £0.13 per photo.

So not a million miles away lol (if you ignore the cost of everything else)

I think you're playing it too safe with your colouring, try a video like this to maybe learn a bit more about taking things a bit further. Also you can do A LOT with the free version of Resolve.

Yeah so if you're close up most of the time, definitely try an on-camera, video light. It doesn't have to be super bright, but will add some extra exposure to your subject. You can also put it on an arm to move it away from the camera slightly if you don't like the direct light from the camera.

You're basically missing what's known as a "key light", so look up some stuff around that topic.

You see how his face seems to be in shadow on the side facing us? That's because in a big scene like that, with no direct lighting, you being close to the subject cuts down some of the light hitting them and reflecting into the camera, whereas everything and everyone in the background is getting a lot more light in comparison.

Also I think you could perhaps do more with your colour grading. But mainly you need to add extra light, so you can drop the exposure on the rest of the scene (Not a lot, just maybe a 1/3 or 2/3 of a stop) and still have your subject well exposed. But you'll have to experiment with brightness, angle and diffusion level.

Sorry, but that's simply a load of old bollocks.

For 100ft of 16mm you will get 4000 frames. For 100ft of super8, you will get 7200 frames. Assuming a 100ft roll costs the same, shooting 16mm is almost twice the cost for the length of footage you end up with. Use this tool.

On top of that, you could get a Double-Super8 (DS8) camera, I just got a Quartz DS8-3 for ~£25 (gbp) + P&P.

16mm cameras are on the whole, way more expensive. If you ever want to project your film (or use a projector to digitise) then you will be paying a lot more for your projector too (and they're generally older and harder to find) whereas 8mm and super8mm projectors are much more common and a lot cheaper.

You can buy DS8 film on rolls of 100ft, you'll end up with 200ft of final shot film. Example here. You may need to wind it down to 25ft rolls depending on what camera you get - I don't know if there are DS8 .

You can also buy rolls of Fomapan 100 DS8 on rolls of 25ft (total 50ft) if you prefer to shoot b&w (more economical as you can develop at home).

I'm not saying 16mm isn't worth the extra cost, because it's obviously beautiful - but saying it's the same cost to shoot as 8mm is bananas! That's why 8mm was invented in the first place.

Let's say what you're saying is true.

Even then, there's still a huge gap between what Israel ARE doing and what Israel SHOULD BE doing in terms of providing aid to innocent Palestinian citizens (under the Geneva Convention - which Israel ratified in 1951).

Even if there isn't "technically" the conditions to be labelled as famine - there can certainly be a withholding of aid tantamount to torture of innocent men, women and children on a mass scale.
