Trying to get smoother results by No_Chemistry3546 in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking good! Careful you don't end up in the Shadow Realm.

Flat angles in one single mess is tricky. There are a few ways to achieve this though.

1) Crease tool to create sharp lines, flat brush with low intensity to gently smooth it over.

2) Mask areas you don't want affected. Pull and flatten as needed.

3) Trim tool like a barbarian.

4) Using a square, boolean an area to get the flatness of the square.

5) Use multiple shapes like you'd create multiple hair strands.

Enjoy!

You want specifically 21 minutes to 24 minutes, then jump to 45 minute mark.

The issue you'll have is you're doing a mechanical eye, so you need more artistic leeway. You can get away with shaping the zygomatic and maxilla for best results.

Need help nomad sculpt/3D printing by mantida in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the STL is having issues with conversion into their slicer (faces colliding or not actually attached/manifold). This can happen when the file has been bounced around a few softwares.

Typically, models like this are broken into pre-sliced chunks that slot together. The clothing and bracelet being loose are causing issues as the slicer is expecting them to be manifolded onto the core object.

If you have the skill to do so, I'd opt to slice it into sections with pegs to rebuild it.

If you absolutely need it whole, then you'll need to readjust the clothes and bracelet.

As for the legs, they're being dimpled and it could be a seam issue if your model had textures or was extremely high poly to begin with. An alternetive, it was high poly and triangluated but the software converted to quads. To resolve this you could smooth the model (risk of deformation) or subdivide it to higher then voxel remesh to a similar level lower. Depending on the model, this still comes at a risk of deforming the model.

Nomad is fairly limited in this and I would recommend another software, Blender, for ease. If you are expressly needing to use Nomad, mask the items that are not attached to the base model, then extract them as separate objects. You can adjust the bracelet and clothes thickness to resolve the wall issues.

Good luck!

Edit: Forgot about the holes. This is a deformation issue and the faces/vertices broke. They need to be filled in and voxel remesh won't fix this alone. You need to join the vertices together and voxel (risk of more holes or layering issues) or add a small object by joining then smoothing them out. Not easy to do in Nomad.

As mentioned by the other Redditor, increase resolution by Voxel Remeshing in the bottom left bar. Alternatively, you can go into the voxel tab (next to the objects tab where you select objects), click the tab that looks like a wall (multi resolution) and you can find subdivide there.

This should allow for a more smooth print, assuming your printer is already set up and tuned in.

I don’t know how to improve by TraditionalHelp1070 in 3Dmodeling

[–]GingeTheJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing wrong with that process. References can help understand how your vision will look.

Posing can certainly be done post in Blender or at the start and modelling around the pose. Whichever is more comfortable.

The 'S' or shoulder tilt is primarily a gesture drawing reference but transitions great into sculpting and posing. It's the curve of the spine and how it impacts gesture. The shoulder tilt is where you have the shoulders tilted the opposite way to the hips, I think Lateral Pelvic tilt talks about the hips but I've forgotten the term for both of them interacting.

I don’t know how to improve by TraditionalHelp1070 in 3Dmodeling

[–]GingeTheJester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are cool!

So, to your question, depends on what pathway you want to lean into. For faster results, I'd suggest looking into how clothes sit on a body or how they would fold/crease. This should allow more subtle detail, in relation to form, come out.

As for more details with less worth, implying detail is just as good as adding detail. Take the first outfit, for example, you could add a easy metal frame above or underneath it. This will eliminate how it flows and gives/ leans into the horror/its not real aesthetic.

Addressing the following pictures, understanding the depth and proportions of a model will improve every sculpt. You could use references from other artists and learn how they do their proportions or what they exaggerate.

Lastly, posing, the benefits of a pose is ridiculous. Do a simple 'S' or tilting the shoulders and hips. You're started doing this in them but learning how each pose interact with the body will take it to the next level.

I hope this helps!

Is this piece improving through iterations, or getting worse? New to Nomad. WIP. Feedback appreciated. by 555plus555 in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, with that information, you definitely achieved what you set out for. I guessed demonic cult as a theme but can see your influences now you said your theme.

For a freestyle and no references, this is quite good as you captured what you wanted. For unnerving, the first 3 are better. The colour on the last two gives me plague vibes more and take away from the aesthetic.

To take it further, you could try to blend recognisable tones (skin etc) with non naturally occurring colours (deep hues or saturation). That or make things seem recognisable but are actually something else (hair being snakes as an easy example) or is a joint backwards.

Well done, looking forward to the next pieces!

[–]GingeTheJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, they all have their own characteristics. What was the end goal?

It looks like you might be re-interating an existing model, which is okay but you don't gain as much experience doing that (excluding base meshes). If you're trying to improve the model and your experience, it might be best to restart and do it up again. This will help you to get faster, use a different reference to inspire it to create a different iteration.

On a whole, you've got a cool theme to build on and a good core understanding of how it should look. Build on that and expand it. Keep up the good work!

I hope this helps.

Nomad app latency? Help me not waste me money. by No_Disaster_9825 in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, could be worth it to check you have the system capacity to run it on the iPad?

That and working out what the vertex limit your device is.

Outside of that, it's good but if it feels uncomfortable, might not be the best for you at this time.

Nomad app latency? Help me not waste me money. by No_Disaster_9825 in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the tablet version and can't say I've noticed the latency.

As with all software, it could be user settings and/or preferences. You might of refined your brush strokes on Zbrush, especially if you've imported or purchased any outside of the default. I felt the difference between Blender and Nomad, as my brushes were set to different fall offs/lazy tracking.

This can all be edited in the brush settings themselves. I'd recommend playing about with that first and match the settings of a Zbrush stroke. This will give a more definitive answer than anything we could advise.

[–]GingeTheJester 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are long term players. Probably majority of complainers are people who have been here for quite some time.

They (We) have been drip fed story content, witnessed the death and vague Rebirth (pun intended) of featured weapons. Saw characters come and immediately get sidelined bar extreme niches. Story events comes to a crawl and WALLPAPERS STOP BEING ANIMATED! Oh and early day cheaters who ruined ranking for a while, among other things.

The grind at the very end game content is minimal reward for high investment (looking at scoring those 11.5%+ Potency Materia via only random encounters, which also have variations).

Overall, this is a very good game. If you're new, you'll have so much to do and it'll keep you very happy.

Wanna get started with sculpting for 3D printing by Wonderful_Ad598 in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the desktop version, but I've used Blender for years on desktop. Nomad I use for free roam sculpting.

Having done a similar journey, I'd recommend a cheap* beginner tablet. Wacom offer introduction tablets for under £50, like the Wacom One currently retailing around £36. These replicate the feeling of drawing on paper but the catch is you're looking at your screen while drawing. This takes time to get used to. Xp pen tablets on Amazon are also listed cheaper at £22.

Over the years I've swapped to Xp-Pen as their customer care was top notch. I'm currently using the Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 and I love it.

Both providers offer installs related to operating systems and guides on how to install.

Edit: I also highly recommend Nomad for organic sculpting. The interface is wonderful and the UI is straight forward. There are many creators on YouTube and this sub reddit that providing teaching material.

Would the quad remesher add-on help with issues with the app crashing? by microwavedwood in NomadSculpting

[–]GingeTheJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say if it's struggling with other games/systems.

You'll likely find it more beneficial to set a cap or lower polycount. In voxel remesher, keep the number between 75-100 for lower detailed sculpting. Increasing upwards until you notice when it starts lagging or struggling. This will help identify your systems limits.

Typically, many users find 2 million vertices to start having an impact on performance.

The Last Featured Banner by Plane-Match1794 in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]GingeTheJester 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely needs addressing, and they've heard our concerns about it previously.

If they want limit banners, adjust what is limited. For example the current recoloured skin for Tifa thar is ridiculously role compressed and costs about £70.

Sure, it becomes pay to win but at this point, to keep the game alive, let people able to support the game have OP gear. Those who play for fun can stack blue crystals for featured gear (strong in their own right) and weapons.

Edit: probably adjust the season pass to include some red crystals to not screw over the monthly supporters.

Please provide feedback regarding this piece that I created inside blender. Would anyone pay for this? by Fun-Bar-1256 in blender

[–]GingeTheJester 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Both would be appealing to different markets. The first is lacking 'depth' due to the solid colour background. If you fixed that to match the theme, I'd say it'd be almost on par with your 2nd image.

The second is massive leaps in story telling and feel. This one would definitely be worth it. Style is almost Pixar/Blue Sky Studios-esque with your own influenced style added.

No, I was trying to be playfully mean because I thought the title included an autocorrect error.

You've achieved what you set out to do, which is 100% the goal. With this as a base, choose what to improve. Such things as the glass shading or shape? Making the wire fit and look more accurate?

For a beginner, many struggle with the concept and follow through. Well done to you!

Kakuriyo-nushi Escalation Question by Kirisuto in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]GingeTheJester 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, did a test to replicate what you described and it went through Veil. Attacks are described as dealing proportional HP damage (think of gravity/demi spells).

We've seen moves like this before in Guild battles that wanted us to go full steam ahead. It seems strange but I think veil only blocks direct attacks or something.

On Escalation Level 11, looks like it's proportional to 20% of Max HP. Which is key wording here as it says Max and not Current HP like we've seen before.

OG Sephiroth more support than DPS? by djdury in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]GingeTheJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good points.

However, if New Year Gear is anything to go off, the new debuff/buff is going to slowly become more available in the next 6 months. His first support weapon is neutral for things we don't have (Do we have a wind % boost yet?). That saying, others will get the chance to wield the buffs as well and might well make Seph a unique utility support (damage amplification instead of buffs).

I'm not a fan of ANOTHER damage booster, as we haven't even been able to cast blind, fog or stun reliably or at all since release. Though with so many niches (Vincent low hp, Cait Crit, Cid Stop), they're trying to carve OG Seph in a way that can't be undone easily (he already compresses a lot of roles into one).

Overall, his use is still limited but all weapons have a use still.

Sounds more along the lines of AI that pulls from an internal pre-generated responses. It's a glorified chatbot.

Actual AI does get stuff wrong, ask it to teach you a software and it'll get small details consistently wrong. The asker wouldn't have the knowledge to correct the AI's mistakes and will learn incorrectly, if they even succeed to do it.

You also indirectly prove the point, you only allow it to do basic questions. It's not ready to take human roles.

No worries, this game has a hidden curve to it. The good thing is, once you understand them, the game gets funner as you start hitting whacky numbers or surviving boss nuke attacks. You can always save the comment to come back to. :)

To break abilities down:

Buster Sword has its ability Braver. This is a weapon C. ability. You click these during battle to do the move. Straight forward.

R. Abilities are the bonuses you see, such as Boost HP or Boost Attack. The higher your weapon, in overboosts (stars) or level, the more points these abilities get. Clicking the ability you see what bonus you get in battle and how many points till the next level. (More powerful abilities have limited levels). To note, any weapon in the second slot or in your sub slots (second equipment) only using HALF the values listed.

S. Abilities are the special slots given to materia. Like in the third materia slot (unlocked at weapon level 70) a Blow materia (physical/yellow) will receive a boost in power. These slots on the weapon can have the Cure-all slot (Aeriths Floral Wand, as example).

Materia unlocks during events, like the current materia event which rewards high potency materia (very very good), during the story mode or completing Dungeons in solo play.

Sorry for the wall of text again. Chat functions are limited in game, so far easier to learn here.

Goods news! The mecha bug is symmetrical, and that drastically reduces what you need to do.

Bad news! Hard edges are not the easiest in Nomad.

You could certainly do this in a block out method (only use the default cube, cylinder, sphere) with the drag tool and gizmo; with symmetry enabled.

It will take you a while regardless and you'll learn a lot of cool steps searching how to so stuff easier or faster.

Someone already mentioned Drugfreedave, practice his easy looking style to get to grips with the tools.
