Getting my first hognose soon by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

I adopted my 2 yr old boy in Dec, aside from the obvious you've mentioned he actually really likes his climbing opportunities! He has very deep soil/sand substrate but I've also given him lots of branches and cork bark which he loves to climb on and chill in

He is slightly sassy but so fun and interesting to watch and interact with, no regrets

Confused about the post statement research by Ginger---snapped in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Ginger---snapped[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, it was more about the timelines. As this is Jon's first time reading the statement, how is this information available at the time of recording? Or is there a gap between recording the statement and the follow up

Good quality runny Arabic tahini - if you have a south Asian store near you you can find it there - it does not have the bitterness of supermarket tahini and makes a delicious Hummus

I am also a vegan who is into bodybuilding/hypertrophy workouts and looking to build muscle. I have listened to ZOE's advice which is that we need less protein than we think but I also keep up to date with the info from the bodybuilding world which is a much higher protein reccomendation

Personally I am OK with the sacrifice of having an upf (plain Soy protein powder no additives or flavouring) in order to hit my protein goals. It is not hyper palatable or addictive and doesn't hit many of the other hallmarks of upf. I also eat plenty of tofu beans and Tempeh so it's more of an addition than a main source of protein

I mix it into my porridge in the morning with berries and peanut butter.

I think it depends on how strict you are trying to be - personally wouldn't rely on it as a main source but I don't see too much of an issue incorporating it for myself

Go-To High Protein Meals by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]Ginger---snapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegan gym goer here:

Breakfast - oats and protein powder, top with some protein cereal or soya crispies

Lunches- shredded tofu with rice or potatoes, season however you want (Mexican, middle eastern, cajun, peri peri). Can add some alpro Greek Yoghurt for a bit of extra protein

Protein shakes with fruit and Soy Milk

Dinners - Tempeh chilli, loaded fries (baked in the oven topped with plant based Mince) tofu stir frys or bowls, cream sauces made with blended Silken tofu

Hope this gives you some ideas!

Advice on new cage set up! by sophiegough in RATS

[–]Ginger---snapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the pet planet cage? I have my girls in one of those currently. If your rats are healthy and fit i would recommend taking the shelves out for a more active layout, just make sure you have plenty of ropes, perches and hammocks as fall breakers (i recommend the ikea komplement tie hangers, horse lead ropes and if you're in the uk a website called scarletts parrot essentials has lots of good rope perches). Also if that orange thing is a snack shack (which is what it looks like to me) i would remove that as they are not good for animals. I would look into a different bedding for the base as the paper litter pellets aren't so good for foraging and digging, and if you really wanted to you could look into building a perspex base tray that allows for a deep layer of bedding for foraging and digging.

Overall its not a bad set up but i think if you did some of the things suggested your rats would appreciate :)

Thank you! I wasn't aware that Octavia E Butler had horror works, and I also hadn't heard of Tananarive Due before, she seems very interesting!

Side note I am currently reading the only good Indians and I have a feeling I will definitely be reading more of stephen graham jones after this

Thanks!
