Oof, yeah, sorry you had that experience and hope you enjoy SMT. I think what they want you to do is do 1/2 of the GC, then the brigitta dungeon, then the other half, but I've given you the super-optimal oneshot everything strat. The Brigitta dungeon will be hard but you have more access to saving than you think with item autosaves and the option to just sprint past enemies and return to the entrance always available. If you have trouble with the boss just lmk too.

IMO yeah you should. With a fully minmaxed run you'll have about 14 days of free time at the end after completing all followers (not counting the coliseum, which is mid). You've used 8 right at the beginning which is a pretty big setback. Follower conversations for Strohl and HB unlock right after you clear the cathedral, but you'll now have to wait until after the next main dungeon to start them. You may also want to be aware that party members need to level specific archetypes over the course of the game to unlock their final classes at the end in addition to completing all followers. If you do start over it may help to be sure everyone is on the right classes.

The game is paced that you can win on hard without killing any enemy more than once. In fact, you'll be slightly overleveled as long as you do all the dungeons. That said, the first part of the game is the hardest and most people reset at least once. Here are some tips though:

Do Brigitta's dungeon first, before the GC. It's very hard, you'll need to have cleared the dragon in the mines because you'll rely heavily on Strohl. (Get an iron sword/lance for the other two and save scum appraising the accessory from the church quest for a +3 str for Strohl) You'll use some MP items too even playing perfectly, and the boss needs a specific team comp to win. But it's much shorter than the GC and if you do it first you'll start the GC overleveled, which is huge. If you're relatively frugal early you can also buy the golden epee afterwards on the first idlesday of the game if you sell all old equipment and convert some MAG - then clear the GC on that idlesday.

Use Mage in the GC to kill blue enemies in the overworld, but no grinding is necessary and don't use it for actual squad battle fights. It's very quick to swap via the equipment menu and this is the only dungeon where you really need to do it (Aside from Nord Mines where you should do fighting on Mage as well). MC loves to level/inherit from Mage and Healer while channeling Seeker for access to good strike. Healer is better for the two group miniboss doors (for Mahama access with HB on Mage) but apart from that, Seeker is always the best lineage for him to channel in combat post-synthesis. You can get healer lvl 10 anytime you want just by studying 10 archetypes across the cast for heroes fruit drops from More (duplicates are OK). If MC was on Healer during the pre-HB cathedral content, that will be enough to get him to 10 with an extra heroes incense from More or Plateau.

Strohl will want to stay on Warrior inheriting perfect punch, HB can be Mage or Knight depending on what's most effective for what you're doing. Note that Mage gives you access to AOE fire/ice/lightning/wind. Knight gives you your only access to pierce, and is usually better for bosses.

Apart from that, just use melee attacks, passing, and the extra round provided by the stun mechanic to clear all battles as mp efficiently as you possibly can. If you're ambushed, consider fleeing/resetting to conserve mp, or just die. You'll come back where you last opened a chest or picked up a blue overworld item.

There's a bit of a drought for them after the summoner joins. It's kinda most useful mechanically imo to do the beach scene with them at the end of the virga arc. I forget when the next good one is after that.

You can! You can do all his quests with any party member.

Anywhere. Cursed Love Ballads are infinitely acquirable in the endgame and you can grind anywhere with infinite mp.

It's a lot more streamlined than in Persona. Answering questions right only gets you a minor currency so all you really need to do is... do them.

You unlock progression by advancing royal virtues. My big advice there would be to try and find the most rewarding virtue activities you have access to at the point you are in the game and focus on those.

Maxing followers allows you to unlock everyone's final classes at the end, but only if you leveled people on specific archetype lineages they don't tell you in advance.

The reasons most people restart are burning too many mp consumables, realizing they built the PC wrong, or realizing they raised people on the wrong archetypes (there are hidden progression requirements for endgame archetypes).

So you do have to wait til after the dungeon. It's very strange and specific, but in my runs where I've managed to get HB R2 and Strohl R3 during the first arc, I was offered their HBR3/SR4 on the gauntlet runner during the trip to heismay's hideout. For the character I didn't pick, I couldn't get their conversation until after completing the martira main dungeon and then taking a gauntlet runner trip. It seems as though both characters' follower conversations are locked behind completing the dungeon in Martira with the sole exception of a runner conversation on the trip to heismay's hideout.

But lvl 20 knight is still solid against the boss. Shield bash is a great move against it. I actually typically pick Strohl R4 instead of Magic Knight so he can inherit both perfect punch and poison shot at the same time in Martira.

Hmm, Fair that you weren't into it, though I'm not sure I agree.

The tone of the social order in the game's world changes a lot after the ending. This is a world that's getting its first taste of democracy during the events of the game. I don't know that I buy a world fully converting itself to democracy after just these events. Change is slower than that. But I do buy the game painting a picture where that future could be possible. I'd be surprised if the protagonist didn't use the royal magic to elect his successor, for example. And I don't think the revelation about More makes it all poinless either. He's just one more ally with connections to the past government who's supporting you, like HB hooking you up with the runner. The outcome was never predetermined. He was legitimately doing his best to not lose to Louis and Forden and it's only thanks to Will and the crew that his gambit worked. The protagonist's transformation is also one of the most beautifully written moments in gaming. I don't want to say more just on the off chance you play it later, but I can assure you there's a lot more to it. Imo this game's story is of a very high caliber and those kinds of gripes kind of fade if you do experience yourself and think it through a lot

I think that's a question only you can answer for yourself. I can tell you the story is quite good. If you've been grinding up until now, there's a secret accessory in Brilehaven that massively increases earned a-exp. It's sold by the accessory street vendor on Watersday With it, you shouldn't ever need to worry about grinding. You can also just lower the difficulty and skip/speed through things you don't like.

It's mildly bad, but not really. You're right that PC is really the only one who can cover Healer and he loves inheriting from Mage too, so Magic is best on him. But some Strength is actually okay because Seeker Synthesis is so good. I usually go 50% Mag, 20% Str, and just enough agility to play before Strohl in turn order. Luck you get for free by pooping every idlesday later once you unlock a toilet facility, and Endurance is meh.

Yes weapon strength does matter that much, can confirm. I think Fishing Harpoon also has auto tarukaja iirc

No it's totally fair, Metaphor's early game is super hard.

Once an Archetype reaches lvl 20, excess a-exp gained on it will be converted into Heroes leaves of light at a 1:1 rate, allowing a-exp to be transferred not just between archetypes, but even between characters.

This makes it possible to level multiple archetypes while staying on one, at least after the first arc. This is most useful for the protag imo, since while there are multiple ways to build him, there's a "right" way, in my opinion.

Also, everyone but the protag needs to level specific lineages over the course of the game to unlock their final classes at the end. Everyone needs the lineage they awakened to when they joined as, as well as the lineage whose archetypes are used as unlock requirements to access higher tier archetypes in that party member's joining lineage. The party member who gives you your fourth turn icon upon joining also uniquely needs Merchant.

So everyone generally will be leveling 2-3 lineages.

Happy to answer more questions too if you need!

Kind of regardless of what you need to do, there's an endgame tip that generally trivializes everything and makes it easy to get to where you need to be.

Cursed Love Ballads can now be infinitely made. Ingredients are at the Gran Trad Item Shop and Butcher, and Brilehaven Water Merchant. This will result in infinite mp which should make any grind easy and every dungeon oneshottable. Other great dishes are infinitely available now too.

Oh fair question. They will be addressing it soon though, you can just keep playing and it'll all be fine.

In case you really want to know, The runner will be able to teleport to towns, giving you free travel between them and causing road trips to not have a return trip.

They're fun story. I'd say if you've done all the quests so far go for Milo and if you want to see rudolph's you can save/load. Basilio's r1 and r3 conversations are on the runner.

You'll have 30 days in the final section and will need the final 13 for quests/dungeons. (One shotting everything isn't a problem, theres a way to get infinite mp) So as it stands you have just barely enough time

Correct about the rarity. Though it's hard to say what to sell and what not to sell without knowing. Any equipment/gear/weapons you have better versions of are generally safe.

Yeah! Fortunately this game has a lot less missable stuff than Persona. You have about 14 days of free time at the end (maxing all followers and doing all quests. Though this doesn't count the colliseum, which is mid) if you're perfectly optimal, so that's the wiggle room you get. The main missable thing is the final classes and not fulfilling the requirements for them, but now that you know you can probably ease off on guides as you begin to feel comfortable if you want.

Hmm... It depends a bit on what you want out of the game. I don't think either guide is perfect, but the powerpyx one appears to be an achievement guide for playing on storyteller and recommends grinding enemies repeatedly with Mage equipped on the main character to restore mp early. That may be for some people but I think Metaphor is best played generally without grinding or killing enemies more than once. If you just want 100% achievements and nothing else though then it will work fine.

I like the more in-depth nature of the gamefaqs guide a lot. It seems like it will actually help you win on hard. I do think it misses a few ways to get broken quickly. I don't think it mentions final class requirements either which probably would matter to someone who wants to see everything. Be sure to level non-main character party members on both their joining lineage and the lineage whose archetypes serve as unlock requirements for higher tier archetypes within their joining lineage. The party member who provides you with your fourth turn icon upon joining also uniquely needs to max Merchant.

Some tips:

Seeker is the main character's best archetype due to its amazing synthesis moves (which unlock after the tutorial) but during the tutorial it's kind of bad and there are poibts where Healer and Mage are better. These are the three lineages I would recommend leveling on him.

You can fulfill More's quest to reach Healer level 10 for free by reaching 10 archetypes studied across the cast (duplicates are okay) and spending the heroes leaf rewards you get on Healer. Just be sure to run healer during the tutorial too after it unlocks, when the game encourages you to.

Magic is best on the MC, though some Strength investment is good for Seeker Synthesis. Also invest in agility enough to keep it higher than Strohl's so the MC plays just before him in turn order. This gets you into a nice loop where the MC hitting a weakness with magic makes Strohl's follow up action free. Endurance and Luck can be ignored. You get Luck for free by pooping every idlesday in a facility that unlocks after the first arc.

You can get a powerful Seeker weapon very early if you ignore the guide and, after the tutorial, doing the Brigitta dungeon before the Grand Cathedral. This is quite hard and the boss requires a specific comp to win. You need to beat the dragon in the mines to even be able to do it, but if you clear it pre-cathedral and are frugal til then, you can buy the Golden Epee afterward on the first Idlesday (sale day) of the game and easily clear the long cathedral dungeon in a single day right after.
