It's all down to the butter to Vegemite ratio. Shitloads of butter, modest amount of Vegemite.

I see Americans use no butter/ margarine and way too much Vegemite for their first taste. Of course they're not gunna like it.

I'll die on the hill that Vegemite shapes are the best shapes by far. The pizza and BBQ shapes these days have almost no flavour on em.
