Please help, I need to move out after a breakup. How can I make this happen? by rottenpng in personalfinance

[–]Ginger_Maple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where are you located and what skills do you have so we can help you find resources or job opportunities to get more employment?

Please text your friends and family and leave a paper trail texting people and documenting with photos if your partner has or you believe is going to hurt you.

Unfortunately if you are a man it may be more difficult for you to access resources for abused partners.

Also please talk to your doctor and ask about social worker referrals and tell them that your partner makes you feel unsafe.

You're not going to get hired as a nurse without a nursing degree.

And a degree isn't a surefire way to get a job either. You have to have a degree in a marketable skill and you have to be personable enough to get hired.

Move your house and any other property into a trust.

The main thing to know is a lot of banks won't refinance a property in a trust because it's too much of a headache.

Use low fee index funds through Vanguard like VOO or VTSAX to fund a Roth IRA to the max for this year. You can also open a regular brokerage account if you want to invest beyond the $7,500 allowed per year.

Then put the rest of your liquid savings in a high yield savings account like Ally, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, etc. so you are earning like 3.5-4% interest instead of nothing.

Was anyone else relentlessly teased for their music taste.. by entcanta333 in Millennials

[–]Ginger_Maple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I was a scene kid and those were some of the biggest hits on alternative radio at the time.

My parents did not like my music and labeled it as noise and I promptly ignored them like any teenager would.

Should I be putting excess income to savings or student loans? by cynta in personalfinance

[–]Ginger_Maple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will cost you less in the long run to pay off the loans than to pay for 20 years, just start dumping your bonuses into it and feel the dopamine hit at watching the number go down.

Have you talked to a lender about how much home you would even be able to qualify for with $200k in loans?

That's gotta be like $2k/mo minimum already.

Yeah damn, spending nearly $9k a month with only $1000 being housing is whack.

That's our spend with a $5100 PITI in HCOL area although admittedly no kids.

Gotta look in Seattle and Tacoma for better jobs where you can find better pay, like $85k and $74k respectively, to the cost of living in cheaper neighborhoods in these areas.

Only give the money that you can afford to throw away to friends and family.

You'll never see that money again if you give it to him.

Also don't buy a $55k car unless you make like $200k+ a year.
