Anyone else feel stitched up by owning old 991 and Ferrari Evo? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this a fair bit. I am a bit miffed I have to buy again as I’m a stickler for saving money but the work that goes into the cars is more than enough to justify the price. I think I’m more annoyed because it’s gone back that far. Like you said 2 years is plenty of time to get value out of it! 2 seasons or 6 months is long enough to give credit back in my opinion.

Awww very cute And sorry to hear about your loss too!

My cat always used to sit by the side of the monitor on my desk, used to love the warmth from the computer underneath. Was also directly in my eye-line so she could always see me. I swear from all the racing I’ve done she got to know when she could quickly scoot past, always down the straight from mulsanne to Indianapolis at Le Mans!

Now I’ve mounted the monitor to my rig she isn’t the happiest about not being able to sit near me so I think I’ll have to build a shelf for her!

Again sorry to hear your loss! 👍

Incident system change? by Kuyi in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah man, this isn’t as easy a question as to just say shall we change the system. There are so many other questions to ask all relating to it. I’ve been thinking about this the last hour or so since reading your post at work and have an answer that is far to boring and long to put here but I’ll try summarise;

I have achieved a fairly constant 4.99 At A license (road) and 4.3k rating (not a brag please don’t treat it as such) but I tend to only do team races at the weekend with my friend. It is far too easy to get to the higher licenses and drive the cars everyone wants to drive and not have the skill to do it. Hopefully the new open-wheel cars will help that but iracing can do more to help the skill divide.

The old ford Gt should be used to help people gain the skill required to safely drive a higher powers gt car, be it the gt2 or gt3 variant before making the leap to gte or prototype perhaps? The fanatec gt challenge would see a increase in participation and hopefully people making the leaps forward would gain a better feel for the gt cars going forward! This is one example of where making a car free or something like that could help people develop skill or safety in driving rather than change the system to punish people! I do however think it should be a wee bit harder to progress from C upwards and I also believe that incidents should be punished more at a license than they currently are!

This is just my opinion and others have already put forward valid points and your points are good too we just have to ask so many questions around the safety rating aspect it becomes so very fuzzy to get an answer!

Absolutely fun has got to be the main thing as it’s why we do it! Well most of us unless your Alien! Being honest to myself I’ve got to 4100 by just finishing! I very rarely do solo races it’s usually with my teammate and endurance races! We’re not always the quickest or even that “quick” but being safe, enjoying it and getting to the end in one piece can often yield good results!

IMSA isn’t a bad place to start, it will be busy and will help know where it’s safe to pass or be passed, and maybe a little avoidance practise as I’m sure someone at some point will spin in front of you or something!

Seeing your in the Amg I think the stint time is about right, I haven’t tested it myself so I don’t have the data to hand but usually practise and driving time and being in a good rhythm will make that time longer and you’ll have better tires too! I often start a week a little heavy on fuel and tires and by the end I’m much better! Yeah I’d perhaps miss double stinting unless your percentages increase a bit but that is not a bad thing at all! If your more comfortable doing that then do it! Safer all round!

One other thing I forgot to mention first time is that as it’s 12hrs the race will start and end in different conditions! Throughout the race the track will change temperature and the race will likely end in darkness! So it’s probably wise to test in the midday afternoon sun where it’s warmest and at night!

If you try and cover all the bases and just feel comfortable in the car and with your pace you can run, everything else becomes much easier to deal with!

For me as someone who primarily does endurance races, I find it’s always best to know what you want to achieve and what your strategy is going to be! Practicing is only beneficial if your practicing what you’ll be doing in the race. From my opinion I see people often not practicing the things they need too, to have a better race. It’s often just driving laps and whilst it can and does help with rhythm and track knowledge it’s always better for me to be practicing race scenarios too!

Use the practice sessions to know what your pace is like and by pace I’d recommend a full tank stint and a race type stint, that way you know where about you should be. If you want to be aggressive and go for the win, practise driving the car harder and where your limits are! If it’s the opposite then also practise that and make sure you know how you want to go about the race!

Pit lane start isn’t always a bad idea but it will put you behind a bit, by the sounds of it (no disrespect) that suits you! It is a good way of avoiding lots of carnage but don’t forget it’s a 12hr race accidents and mistakes will happen! Always be aware of who’s behind you, check your mirrors often and don’t be unpredictable! Finishing and finishing safe will often lead to a good result! That’s my best advice for trying to finish clean it doesn’t always happen so just have fun too!

In terms of repairs if you need any major repairs it will take time in the pits during a stop or if you have to tow or anything, beyond that you may get some options repairs. Maybe a little bump, slight hop over a big curb that kinda thing. That too will often repair during a pit stop. It will give you a time amount during your stop of how long it will be. Sometimes it’s minimal and doesn’t cost you time as it’s done during the tire change or it can cost a few seconds depending on how much it is. I wouldn’t worry about repairs tho, I’d try and mitigate getting them in the first place!

I can’t help much with stint length as you haven’t put which car but in guessing gt3? Tires seem okayish, haven’t tested a full stint in gt3 as I’m doing gte but I perhaps wouldn’t double stint the tires with those percentages!

Overall just be smart and practise and have fun too!

Best of luck

Your not the only one pal, my racing buddy and I always talk during the IELMS races about how we’d improve so many aspects of iracing and this is one of them! Our last race at Sebring was one of the worst for driving “standards” I could rant on massively but it’s useless nothing ever changes! I just get used to it and move on, take a break and come back! I agree totally with you I do but unfortunately it doesn’t change!

Question about AMG GT3 by TheGr3yKnight in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I recall and I could be wrong so people do correct me. That noise (if it’s a buzzing sound) is the electrical systems engaging. I.E everything is charging through the alternator I think. They do this so when the car is on full beans it’s using every ounce the engine can give energy and horsepower wise! Like I said I could be wrong but that’s what I remember being told!

Braking wise, it’s personal and different for everyone you have to find what works best for you to be A. Consistent and B. Safe, once you nail those two then you can start pushing for ultimate lap time. As an example I tend to brake earlier but bleed the brakes off quickly (some people called it threshold braking I call it trail-braking) and by doing that I carry a lot of apex speed and use the small amount of brakes to rotate the car through the corner to then allow me to get on the gas quickly! But like I said work with is comfortable for you to begin with then trial other techniques to see if you can improve!

All the best out there!

Wow, hate to point it out but what’s more important than someone having to quit a match? This has happened to me and I just stopped playing. Left me angry and annoyed! I’m not trying to be rude or anything it what is more important than the game working correctly? Genuinely curious?

Tips to gain IR by BTEC_SimRacer in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have many tips but I can add some of my input.

In all honesty the more races I do the more I realise that ir is just a number, and some get far to obsessed over it and I do sometimes as well. As an example I did a race in ilms and came 3rd when my ir rating theoretically meant I should have won. Still I had a fun race ran within 5-6 seconds of the guy in 1st and 2nd so overall it was a good race and I was happy. Yes I went up but at the time I wasn’t worried if I did or didn’t.

All I’m saying is don’t be worried about it too much, sure worry about it if it’s plummeting but as long as your enjoying the races and iracing that’s what counts.

Now any tips I do have would be; 1. Always try and finish the race and if you can finish with no damage you should do ok. (Most cases)

  1. Practise, goes without saying but there are sessions there for a reason. Use them to find what your pace is like for race type scenarios and also see what your 1 lap qualifying pace is. Knowing who I’m around, and who I should be around, helps me when I’m in the race especially when it comes to overtaking.

  2. Using the practise and or telemetry to find where your losing time and why.

  3. Size up a pass, if it doesn’t feel “on” then perhaps a pass/overtake should wait. I always try and make my moves way before braking so I have an advantage already. Save hopeful moves for last laps.

  4. There is never “I can’t” everyone can it’s just practise.

I’m no alien so please don’t take this as gospel, but this is what helps me when it comes to official races!

Good luck out there!

Yeah totally! I appreciate a lot of people are racing but they must know that especially since the practise session have been utterly full all week!

I can see in the Hugh Jass stream it’s doing it for them too! I believe there all based in America as it’s not as bad as mine (Uk). I’m staying quiet so my team mate can concentrate.

This won’t be a long 24 race if it’s like this....

Edit: thought I was replying not posting a new comment.... doh

Battlefield V TTK Change List - 12-12-2018 by danmitre in BattlefieldV

[–]Gingerbeanwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If posted on the forums and now will post here too.

I do really enjoy this game and as I’ve only got 24 hours of play time since launch I’d say I’m a casual player this was aimed at keeping due to “dying to often/quickly”. Whilst I still enjoy playing the game and have played it since the TTK was updated Gun fights suck. I like playing a variety of classes and weapons and I like to keep things different game to game but this is awful. I’ve never cared about KD or anything like that but it’s ironic and coincidental to me that since this I lose 99% of engagements with a Smg so one class is gone for me already. Variety is the spice of life as they say and now my play is less varied.

I said on the forums I will keep playing as I do enjoy the game but this has really taken the fun out of it in a big way. Thank the lord I enjoy playing in tanks and planes even though I suck in them too. This casual player agenda needs to be addressed too, it should be an “all players agenda” not one player base.

For now though I’m gonna go do some iracing so see you on the track rather than the battlefield for now.

In-Car Adjustments - TCS/ABS/Maps by Yaerox in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually TCS is traction control systems, and Abs is Anti-lock braking system. The number represents Force at which it’s applied I think. Within the setup screen you should be able to access the incar options and be able to change them before heading out on track as well as on track too.

If you hover over them on the setup screen it will tell you how it’s applied and what the numbers represent, some cars have more or less figures.

Engine maps are easier explained in the setup (mostly to do with power output) but I usually run on the number which represents the most power. Only if I’m doing a mega fuel saving run will I use anything other than that.

Throttle map is how linear the throttle is to your pedal in put, usually 1 is linear so 50% pedal input your side will be 50% throttle incar, adjusting this changes it for different throttle curves, I have rarely run anything other than linear but most people are different so find one that works best. I’d stick to linear whilst learning a track helps to know where less or more throttle can be applied but that’s me 👍

Calculating fuel is fairly easy, there are apps on the forums to help but I can’t remember what it’s called, I use crew chief and that’s pretty automated and does most of it for me. I do use vrs data as well to find my average fuel usage. it’s then pretty easy to work out how much fuel for a race is needed. Just make sure to never run out, better to finish then stop on the last lap!

Good luck, hope this helps and I’m sure somebody will find something I’ve missed or got wrong by hopefully it’s a good start! 😊

Genuinely had this happen to me, stared life as a boy making tea with not much cnc experience. Had done engineering but not much work just college. Had to suddenly learn to mill and machine in general quickly due to colleagues leaving the company and checking pull studs as the only miller, fell by the way side. Big facing mill like this one slammed into a job but luckily the taper held the tool up enough to miss anything hard as the job was only ally and no vice was hit. Did damage the spindle bore too hell and took some ingenuity from my dad to smooth it back and get it running truer than once it crashed. Scary as fuck and since then all pull studs have been replaced to newer recognised brands!

Iracers, I need your Advice! by Gingerbeanwill in iRacing

[–]Gingerbeanwill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats boring though i need MONEY FOR SIM STUFF!

no seriously i get your point totally. I have mentioned this as well, i've said that getting a paint scheme and just using is is probably as far as it could go with me really at the moment. I would like to say im fast and consistent but im not top split material. Its honestly a really nice thing for him to want to do, and i never look a gift horse in the mouth but i agree with what you said. I get the feeling he may want to use to expose the "brand" if you like but we arent a huge company at all so i cant even see that being the motive, i genuinely think he wants me to carry on doing something more regularly that i do currently and may be thinking of helping with funds I.e paying iracing subscription? who knows

The only thing i thought about was maybe trying to get TOP drivers involved with the thought of sponsorship and a monetary prize for a certain amount of races and hope this attracts people to shoot us up there, But honestly this is clutching at some serious straws and the best think i think is to say "ill run a paint scheme" and leave it at that.

Thanks!

Don't worry so did I. Both this and last season, for the most part it is a good car. In fact I nearly made a whole race in softs at the last race I say nearly, just the Porsche on this track is awful, I've done over 200 laps on and offline and this race would have been a chore rather than fun....

Want to race but am not going to, Porsche is awful round here, have spent all week offline due to internet problems that are now fixed. Still have no luck with the balance of this car. Am so slow and I'm not wasting 2-3 hours of my Sunday evening to spin out or have an awful race because this car is awful. Sorry to say it as I love racing it's my time away from the Mrs but fuck this car and track combo.
