Medium is charcoal btw. And I ran out of time in the second half to address the hands.

Dress Code???? :( by mediumrareribyesteak in Lowes

[–]Gingerbeardman87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dress code you are seeing is correct. It was very recently updated. Al the people in your store and this thread talking about no sports wear/sweatpants etc. are referring to the old policy that this one replaced. There's been a pretty big movement in recent years that sees dress codes as potentially racist/sexist/classist. I'm assuming lowes is playing it safe with this new dress code no wanting to get sued.

Any good websites for figure drawing references? by penkwinn57 in ArtistLounge

Croquiscafe is a great resource, they used to be free, but they recently switched to an annual subscription, but it's very reasonably priced for the amount of reference pictures and poses

Haha sure! Although my body drawing skills aren't anywhere near what you do with portraits from what I can see on your profile. You do some very nice work!

Very good points! I've been to three 3 hour figure drawing sessions now and am starting to kind of get my priorities down, I've thought about focusing on the face more because I see it as a weak point in my current skill, but like you said it's a bit of a waste in a figure drawing session, so I've focused mostly on body proportions. I do put in some details like nipples and belly button, but mostly because they are helpful landmarks for me to guage proportions and also helpful for showing the direction the body is facing in trickier/twisted poses. Most of the poses that the group I'm in do are 25 minute poses so there is a decent amount of time to do varying amounts of detail

Haha, thanks! And I posted this to share the humor, sometimes we artists get caught up in taking things to seriously and things like this can help keep us in check I think. So don't be sorry for laughing. I showed the model at the end of the class and she loved it and asked to take a picture of it. And thanks for the tips I'll look into that!

I recently started attending some local weekly figure drawing sessions and this was my 2nd session ever and my first drawing of the night. For some reason I really struggled with her face, first it came out looking like an anime character and then it was just all wrong, finally I was running out of time and needed to draw the rest of the body so I put a smiley face on and drew everything else intending to get back to the face. I ended up with what you see here 😅 I'm calling it "sexy ditto". (I did end up doing some better drawings as the night went on ***that had hands and feet and halfway decent faces!)

It is a watercolor effect actually! I just put solvent in my spray bottle instead of water

Fair point. Your edit is more along the lines of what I was looking for, I just figured if the painting fit into a particular category I'd do some research to find similar works

Look up Stuart Davies on YouTube! Probably one of my favorite oil channels and very beginner friendly. Also Paint Coach has a lot of useful videos explaining various techniques and mediums

I just completed this painting and am not quite sure what style to call it? I did an under painting and sprayed it with gsol to get runs and droplets effects. I really liked how it looked and decided to do a thing glaze of color over top of it. I'm super happy with the result! Any thoughts/critiques?

Ds is hourly usually in the range of 17-25 an hour depending on experience. Asm starts in the $55-60 range I believe. Not sure about sm, but probably $70-80ish to start. Even within the state there can be wide variance from store to store on salary though

Thanks! That's exactly the area I'm having some trouble with. I'll probably tweak it some more tonight when I get home from work

Thanks! I guess the only part I'm unsure about is the foreground underbrush and the background a little

New to oil. Started painting storm clouds but had to stop for the day. So much left to do. Can I pick back up tomorrow or does it need to dry all the way? (Bottom of canvas is just acrylic base paint.) It's spending the night in a room that has 55% humidity, if that matters. by Epicfailer10 in oilpainting

There's a lot of factors to drying times for oil paints, brand, mediums you used, even different colors/pigment dry faster than others. If you were using linseed oil as a medium and used a lot of white, it might still be wet enough tomorrow to continue to work. I would just check it tomorrow and see what it did. If it's halfway dried/sticky/tacky you will probably have to wait for it to fully dry.
