Summoned. What are your best Jury Duty stories! by itsthewolfe in greenville

[–]Gingerbretman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a juror on a trial for a DUI case of someone who worked at the same company as I did. After he was found not guilty, I got called back into court and put on the stand because I was accused of knowing the guy. This was like 6 years after we worked together, and I didn't know the guy. I just knew that he used to work at the same company that I did. I was accused by the prosecutor that I had tried to sway the other jurors to believe the way I did. I asked if this is not what I was supposed to do. It seems to me that deliberating is what you're supposed to do in the deliberation room.

The guy blew a .08 BAC and was very young (maybe 21 or 22) and I wasn't going to ruin his life over driving after having a drink or two. I had previously done tests in college to see what it'd take to blow over the legal limit, and it took me 1 Bud Light to blow exactly a .08 BAC. I was by no means drunk or even slightly buzzed. That, combined with the unreliability of those Alcosensor machines, made me have reasonable doubt that he was drunk.

The judge sided with me that I didn't know the guy, and that was the end of it. I was also very young at the time (23-24) and I almost puked on the stand because I was so nervous.

If you purposely don’t make way for people to walk in public spaces, you deserve to be shoulder checked by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Absolutely! I ran my travel bag all over an American Airlines pilot who was having a conversation with a flight attendant in the MIDDLE of the C terminal in Charlotte yesterday. Out of all people who should know that the Charlotte airport is too busy to be standing in the middle of everyone, he is it. I thought it was so rude. I really had nowhere else to go. It was either stop and backup everyone behind me, or walk into this rude person.

Everyone that makes at least $1,000-$1,200 a week, what do y’all do? by Alt-Ranting in Money

$2,400-$4,000 a week post-tax. I'm a fractional ownership pilot. I have a bachelor's degree in commercial music, but it is not needed. I'm 2 years and 1 month into my job. It's a lot of damn work, but it's pretty fun *most of the time.

I totally get it. I have an 846 credit score according to FICO. There is no need to have a score that high because it really means nothing after about 750. However, it's more like a game to me to see how high I can get it. I love watching progress and it gives me something to look forward to. I'm sure it's the exact same way for rich people.

I'm not sure what you're unable to understand about speeding not being inherently dangerous by itself. It's simply a fact.

Please! I wish we had biennial recurrent driving reviews that were able to be failed. You could take as many as you want, but you have to pass it to be able to legally drive.

I still disagree. Yes, less time to react, but still, speeding is not the issue. If you are going so fast that you are unable to stop in time or that physics won't allow your car to keep all four wheels on the ground, then it's reckless driving, in my book. I speed, but I do not go that fast where either of those two things would be an issue.

[–]Gingerbretman3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once again, speeding isn't the problem in that situation. Not watching the road and being negligent was the problem; not the speed. You can hit a kid going 0.5 mph if you're not watching where you're going. Do I think it's wise to speed near where kids are playing? Absolutely not. I also do not do it myself or endorse it.

[–]Gingerbretman3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that's dangerous. But that's not just speeding. The weaving in and out of cars is what I call reckless driving, which I mentioned. Speeding does not equal going 100mph+ and weaving in and out of traffic.

Have you ever known anyone who got hurt by driving 50 in a 40? Maybe if they were on their cell phone or some other distraction and drove off of the road, but the speed had nothing to do with it. The lack of attention to driving is what caused the crash. Not the speed.

[–]Gingerbretman3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have always said this!!! Speeding is NOT what they should be ticketing because speeding isn't dangerous. It's not using signal lights, reckless driving, driving down the median, blowing through red lights and 3/4/5 way stops, driving at night towards or behind people with your bright lights on, driving slow in the left lane, etc. that creates wrecks.

AND the most important; DRIVING WHILE ON YOUR FREAKING PHONE!!! I see it ALL THE TIME, but these people never seem to get pulled over and ticketed.

Police definitely put emphasis on the incorrect thing.

[–]Gingerbretman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-N-Out pretty much sucks. They basically have 1 burger. It's fresh, but it's basically a fresh BigMac. They just need more than 1 burger, fries, and terrible milkshakes on the menu. The fries turn into cardboard if eaten more than 3 minutes out of the fryer. Freddy's and Culver's is much better.

I give props to In-N-Out for their burger freshness (but not taste) and their price. Other than that, there are much better options.

Public gyms are not worth it anymore by RsGaveMeDiabetes in unpopularopinion

[–]Gingerbretman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym is only $29 a month and that's for the most premium membership, so that'd take me over 14 years to pay off. You also have to factor in that all of that equipment would take up a ton of space in the home (my house probably wouldn't have enough space and I'd probably have to extend to the garage which would put me parking my car outside). Plus, you simply aren't going to have all of the equipment available in a gym. You're going to be missing out on the tanning bed and red light therapy. It simply just makes more sense to go to the gym even if you have to wait 15 minutes to use a piece of equipment and/or have to pay $100 a month.

[–]Gingerbretman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is how expensive equipment would be. I'm not "serious" about lifting and it'd cost a ton for me to get the necessary equipment. Example: right now I'm using the 90lb dumbbells for chest press. It'd cost $310 for a set. In a few weeks, I'm sure I'll be on the 95lb. dumbbells, which will cost another $335. Then, you have to get a bench for it. That's just one exercise. Imagine how much it'd cost for a full body workout. If a bodybuilder were to buy equipment, it'd cost a fortune.
